1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When does it end, the doll acquisition stage?!

Jun 15, 2007

    1. It'll end when new dolls stop being made :X

    2. Right now I'm gonna order my first one in a couple of weeks and I have my list up on a wipe board with prices and that I think is helping from me having a list a mile long. I see how much would be going into basic things (like I want a Too and Bee and well they need at least one outfit, wig, eyes I like, shoes) plus shipping. So this isn't even "extra" stuff (like additional eyes and wigs). At the moment 2 at the most would be added (two of my girls would need their love interests, although another MSD might get the axe just so Rhiannon can have her love and I'd get to freak out my rp partner in process cause it so much fun with him ^^). So that would be at the most 8, with the collection in the far future being expanded into 10 just to have a nicer number but no more than that cause I'll be out of room.

    3. hmmm right there with you! i got my first early feb after ordering mid December and not I have 5!!!! ( one is really little though! like that really makes a difference! LOL).

I need a body for a floating head ( special K) and Iwant an obitsu for my obitsu practice head...and I have fallen in love with Sooh AND I know I will buy an Sd from cherishdoll when they release them..ahhhhh

Seriously all the plans are on hold as I am paying off dolly debt...Ihope it slows down!

    4. I got my first 3 months ago and so far she's an only child. But there are many, many dolls I would like to have, only my budget stops me. Two a year, that's my goal.

    5. I am thankful for my BJD friends. We discuss our plans with each other and watch each other's wallet. If I want something I talk it over with my sis and she tell me NO! firmly. Thank goodness, I have to do the same for her. IF we didn't we would be knee deep in dolls right now. Also, my Bf and bank account talk me out of buying as well :sweat. It's ending for me, I have three right now and have joint ownership of four and claims for 3 others. It's fun when your friends have dollies that you like and want but don't want to buy per say. I enjoy spoiling their dollies as well as my own! I have a set limit no more than ten and I'm going to stick by it!

    6. I don't want it to end, really, but I should at least partially stop it. xD
      My problem is, I have no job and I've been asking for dolls as gifts whenever I get the chance, so I'm trying to stop adding to my collection. XD;
I only have three more dolls absolutely planned on my wishlist, but after my fourth doll I'm going to stop asking other people for them. The other two I have planned will take a lot of work and money, so I'm going to spend a lot of time on them. I don't need any more dolls, I don't think, after those.

    7. I think it slows considerably after you get the doll you REALLY want. After I got Absinthe, even though I've been looking at other dolls, I don't absolutely HAVE to have them, they're just nice to look at :D

But of course, since I'm getting a job this summer and working AX Artist Alley, I'll have the funds for another doll.. so why not! :D F-17 here I come~

    8. It's supposed to stop??:ablink:

I think after I get my Ark, I will be set...but I would like to get a different faceplate for my Narae to change her look, and I still wouldn't turn down a Soony head if it was in my price range...but that's about it.
I am noticing that I am not as "gaga" over dolls as much as I once was when i started...and i think I am at a happy stage over who I have..

    9. I guess it never ends as long as you have money to buy them. I just bought my 1st doll, and I was thinking I would not buy another doll - ever! I had paid so much money for Yuki Fereshteh!

      But...

As I'm shopping for outfits and wigs, I see other dolls. I see dolls here in the galleries. I see dolls when I'm looking for tips on how to do a faceup for my doll.

      Dolls everywhere. Beautiful dolls.

Then I think - MAYBE I'll buy another eventually, probably by DOD, but I don't know which size or model yet.

There should be a description in the DSM for this IWantThatDoll disease!

    10. LOL That made me laugh. I've stopped collecting BJD's now, though I probably won't stop collecting doll all together until the end of next year, I've been promising myself 40th edition action maaaan!!! I think having just one BJD is relaly nice to be honest.

    11. Good Question.
It does'nt stop, not completely. There may be confines of money, space and individual plans for characters etc etc but it don't stop.....no, not never.
You need willpower to be in the BJD world, somethng that i don't possess so i do it this way...i only buy during a certain period each year and only spend what cash i actually have saved over the preceding year and when it's gone it's gone.
Doing it this way means i have a long time to mull over what i really want instaed of impulse buying - i have learnt the hard way.

I am waiting for BJD #8 to arrive - she will be the 4th i have bought this year but i suspect she will be almost the very last, as i know what i want now and won't buy on a whim anymore...........those were the days
      ;)

    12. It's funny, I hit my credit cards pretty hard, and ended up with 8. There are a few more that I am drooling over, but I'm getting to the stage where I'm just enjoying getting to know the ones I have. We watched tv together the other night.... :) :) My sister thinks I'm nuts....

    13. Oooh man, well I'm sort of in the new buyers' catagory. I bought one for my friend and I once had one for myself, but sold her for financial reasons and didn't bond as well with her and now I got myself another doll that I just adore and have plans for a few more....though with every new doll I see I'm tempted lol But I kept this thought to myself. I plan on two main dolls a male and female. And maybe get a pet doll or two and a smaller doll or two....so that makes a potential max of 6 dolls X.x lol most likely not that many, as I'm thinking 4 is gonna be the max.

    14. Hmm urge to buy lol..yes.. I am afraid it hasnt gotten any easier for me! I have been collecting for..3 years.. ? I think thats right. In the past month..My doll family has DOUBLED! from to 8. Oops.. I mean 10! One is just a head tho :P And not only that..then they need clothes! Seriously..does my girl really need a 200 dollar dress? YES! haha.
Man..this is a very exspensive hobby. And must be very careful ;/ Can really get yourself into some trouble!

    15. I have two more really planned. I want to make a DD version of my favourite DP, and (not to sound like a dork) I want a doll of my WoW character.

(Though I suppose at some point my Azurite needs a grilfriend. He's the only completly strait boy in the house and all the girls I have now are lesbians :sweat)

So I guess I'm getting to that happy place where unless something _wonderful_ comes out, I'm set. :)

    16. You're right...most of my other collections have abruptly slowed down just like this. I didn't get rid of them, it's not that I never add another piece, just that it's pretty much the way I like them and there's no more burning desire to keep adding.

And you are correct - it's a blessing to the wallet :)

    17. Does the acquisition phase ever stop? For some, yes. For others it doesn't ever stop or just slows down. I've been in the hobby since early 2004 and I have seen so many members and my own friends get their first dolls. And now they have large groups of dolls.

Okay, I can't talk. I currently have 17 dolls and 2 heads. It's usually a good bit of time between each purchase, sometimes over six months between new arrivals. I'm almost done with my wishlist. I typically rewrite my wishlist from memory. If something gets dropped from the list from one iteration to the next... well I obviously don't need it that bad. It helps keep the focus on the dolls that stay on the list.

The impulse purchases are probably causing the most trouble. I just got a beautiful Souldoll tanned Miryu and had no clothes for her. The biggest hint that I'm almost done is that I can't figure out any new characters.

    18. I try and think about this a lot.I don't have backstories, so I'm not trying to look for certain characters.I do like even numbers, and I tend to like heads that match bodies.I'm a sucker for sad little faces, and I find at the moment I can't sell any dolls I have, so for me they keep multiplying,BUT I'm really hoping to stop NOW (at ten)!:sweat
I think what doesn't help me is when Companies have really good Event offers.Yes, that's my downfall.

    19. I am very good at controlling my wills. I have owned at one point 4 dolls 2 DD's, a Delf Shiwoo and a Delf Lishe. I now have no dolls but have a Vintage Ai on order. I could go mad spending all my money on dolls but I don't see the point. I wouldn't appreciate them as much if I splurged every month. Maybe its because I have been involved in the dolly world for quite sometime now.

    20. I can be a tight wade about money so I think that has saved me a little. Though I always see dolls that I like I tell myself that if I spend the money on this and I see something else I won't be able to get it because I have no money.
