1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When does it end, the doll acquisition stage?!

Jun 15, 2007

    1. To me, it stops when I have the perfect head-molds for each of my Original Characters or my favorite Anime and Game characters , on bodies that suit them, and match their resins.

I will be buying wigs, outfits and accessories for them forever though....

    2. If I get my Beyla in December, I will have acquired six dolls this year. I have a huge wish-list, but I'm getting a lot more selective. There are characters I would like to get dolls for, but several of them don't have the exact right one available yet. I'm getting better at stomping down the "Must have! Must have!" impulse.

    3. I have 7 main ones (that sit on my desk everyday) that i'd never part with... a bunch in boxes (including heads that need bodies)... 3 on the way (I thought I was cutting back until stupid soom and their stupid monthly tinies came out)... and some that I have on a shelf and am *eh* about (mostly cause I just bought them as "pretty" and don't have any characters for them... YET!).

I only have ONE left on my wishlist that i'm dying to have... and I really want to STOP buying so many... but then new ones come out that I just can't help thinking I might love... and I learned my lesson with limiteds. Better to get a limited NOW that I *may* be in love with, and then sell it later (and get my money back) if it turns out that i'm not in love with it.

    4. I got my first in June of 07.
      Second in March of 08.
      Head of 3rd in Septemeber/October of 08.
Body of 3rd in March of 09.
4th at end of May of 09.
      5th(an OT 1/5 dollfie) October of 09
      6th October of 09.

Do I want more YES. How many more do I have planned partially at the moment? 7-8...do I know what molds they will be for certain...half of them yes, half of them now. those half I know are mini's...when do I want them?

      7th hopefully Christmas of 09
      8th and 9th(twins) for March of 10
10th well...that's questionable...perhaps Chrismas of 10 or Late Spring of 11(graduation present perhaps...)

    5. I want to stop and focus on the ones that have. But I also want to get the ones on my want list. I think after I get my next Fairyland order though, I'll be able to take some time off from getting new dolls and make the ones I do have look their absolute best. One does need a new body though...There just isn't enough money coming in and too much going out.

    6. It stops? I have a doll nation! And it's still growing!

    7. My first doll hasn't been shipped yet and I already have two other dolls bookmarked. (They are completely gorgeous though!)

I think (hope!) that when you have your doll family to the size you want it to be then you'll slow down... *remembers people with over 25 dolls*

      ... Maybe? :sweat

    8. When I first started the was always a rush to want more. I had several dolls but never spent any money customising them beyond a face-up. So they essentially sat there without nice hair, eyes or clothing. Eventually I realised I wasn't really enjoying my dolls so I started selling one.
I would sell one, buy another, sell it...now I've refined my collection and want to focus on actually fully customising them!

Although ironically a friend of mine offered me a very long layaway on a doll...and I couldn't resist. However I feel I am pretty firm in my new plans. I have already purchased the eyes of my dreams for my two dolls...now I am on the look out for clothing.

I have been in this hobby since 2004 - and I have grown out of the aquisition phase. At the same time other hobbies have captured my interest too. So all in all everything has generally slowed down for me even though having the dolls still makes me happy.

    9. I always said just the one but I have just placed an order for my second. While again (maybe foolishly) I am now saying just the two, who knows, in a year it could be just the three, lol.

    10. Gahh, I have the same problem! Luckily, I don't have enough room on my Credit Card to charge another doll (and won't until I pay it off) and I'm really tight about my Checking account since it has to last me until May. >.> (Unless I get a seasonal job soon.. if I do, I have a doll I've been eyeing *drools* )

On the other note, I don't think the craving ever ends.. ever! Though there are those rare cases I see once in a while..

    11. short answer:
Whenz dey bury me in the cold cold ground!
      :kitty1
Really, continuing to desire new dolls is a positive thing, I think. If it stopped, that would mean the companies were filing to provide anything exciting and new, and that -as consumers - we had failed to conceive any new characters or concepts through the outlet of doll collecting. Stagnation is not a pretty thing!

Wanting and buying are two different gestures, though...and I think as one 'matures' in the hobby - regardless of age - spending patterns will prolly alter. For some, that may mean becoming more discriminating, and buying less; others may experience a broadening of realms of appreciation, and buying more!

For me, I suspect my buying may slack off when I feel confident enuff to start building my own sculpts...
...but then, that's just a more intricate and labour-intensive form of doll acquisition, isn't it? :doh

    12. Here, here, I second that comment!

TBH, I probably have more dolls than I have time to play with right now, but that doesn't stop me from wanting just . . one . . more.

    13. I'm hoping it stops when I run out of wishlist... which could take a while.

    14. i have 3 dolls now and number 4 on way, but he will be shared with my sister.

it has not stopped yet, there are dolls i still wish for

    15. I was so happy with my MSD. Thought she would be it. Id get her a nice big wardrobe, and several wigs and be happy as a clam.
      *right*
Well I have 4 now (A nice family so to speak)... planning on two more. The nice thing is I dont have the money for them yet so everything is simply me staring at the various sculpts I see and trying them on mentally for my two girls to see which sculpts are best for them.
I HOPE after them I can stop.

    16. Great thread! I only have two BJDs right now. But I think I need more. And the ones I have now are small. I want just one MSD. I hope. And two more tinies. And then, hopefully that is it. But who knows. I have two other close friends who are in the hobby too, and we all kind of wind up feeding each other's addictions I think. Not good, but fun!

    17. I don't think it every ends. Someone comes out with something new and then your tempted to buy again and again and again. Barb. in L.A.

    18. It has stopped for me a couple of times, but for only a temporary length of time, while I focused on other kinds of dolls or other hobbies. I thought I was happy with the few I had at that time.
Then... it started up again and with much fever! I am now dolly obsessed over tiny dolls. I can't seem to get enough even though I want to be able to just relax and enjoy the ones I have. Mostly the only thing that stops me is my lack of funds for dolls. I would guess, I will stop again sometime here for a while again. Whenever that is...

    19. Its different for everybody ...but for me it ended when i felt like i was running out of space and since i didnt have a separate room to house my dolls in ..that my living area was starting to look like a dolls store ( which i didnt want ) ...so that has kept me on track.

    20. My finances certainly limit what I actually buy...but the want to buy? I haven't reached a point where that is satisfied yet.
I actually just realized that my tastes have shifted a bit over the last few months to a year, so my wish list may experience a dramatic cut and re-haul in the near future...but I definitely do want more dollies...just different ones than I originally thought. Hehe. ^.^"
