It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. When the Doll arrives... - [your regular activities?]

Jun 6, 2009

    1. I usually tear open the box with a minimum of pictures, althought I do save the boxes if I know I'm going to need it to ship things. Any extras get unwrapped first, and if it's a split box, other people's parts get unwrapped first to make sure nothing is damaged. Those get pictures taken to show the owners. Then they get rewrapped. The bubblewrap gets peeled off carefully, again for shipping other parts or for storing floaty parts that don't get alot of attention. If he has clothes, he gets them as soon as I'm done playing with the body and learning how the body poses. Wigs and eyes go on/in right away if I have them. Then I spend usually the rest of the day with them.

I'm not really one for squeeing too much, since it annoys everyone else in the house, but I jump and run around the house because I get so excited! It always gets my heart pounding, bringing another resin home. :)

    2. Take them out, check for damage, try on clothes, set them with my other dolls, clean up boxes and bubble wrap, and then get on with my life.

    3. Moi? Well...~♥
I love my bjd's and so far, Ive only been blessed to open my first bjd so far, my second one is on his way. Anyway...

What do you do when your dollie arrives?

Technically: Of course, I took her outta her box. I nearly killed the box though, it was scary. My girl isnt resin, she's actually vinyl. So I had no need to wash her :3, and my lovie was already customized.

Emotionally: I was darn happy. ⌒-⌒ I took her out and gave her a kiss on her little cheek ゜◇゜ I told her that her name was Lux and blahblahblah. But NO, I did not just throw her back in. I posed her and looked at her makeup and details. I felt akward too, poor girl was naked ̄ー ̄

    4. I usually save all technical stuff until I've done the emotional stuff. No sense in destroying something before I know things will work out okay.

      2. Emotionally - I usually take them out of the box as soon as possible, get them some clothes and a wig and eyes. Mess around with their posing for an extended period of time.

The face up, for me, kind of falls under both categories. That's usually the next step after I've gotten them clothed and settled in.

    5. 1. Technically: Check to make sure there are no flaws, check string tightness and posing, take unboxing and comparison photos for reference (so that I can see what the doll looked like right out of the box for yellowing, etc)

      2. Emotionally: Marvel at the sculpting quality (I definitely don't dress them right away) by looking and also by touching. I see the dolls as art and I always wish I could touch/feel art at art galleries but I know I can't so the dolls are like works of art that I can hold all I want. Pose them however I can and have them pose with my other dolls.

    6. I've never been able to take box opening pics o.o by the time I think of it it's too late I've torn into the box and already have the doll out and clothed (if I have clothes for him)XD

I usually bring out all my dolls to meet the new one, then if he doesn't have any clothes I make him some. He usually sits on my lap when I sew :3 and I ramble to him the whole time. he has to pick out his own fabrics and stuff :3

There is a lot of squeeing o.o and calling people over to see the new dollie :D

Of course I take many many pictures while squeeing and depending on the day of the week he gets taken to his first trip at the gay bar :D with Airrizzon (and now Pegasus :3)
Because the gay bar loves our dolls it's awesome.

    7. Emotionally and Technically for me are all mixed together. So I will put how it goes with me in steps.

Step 1: The waiting.. Lots and lots of irritating, anxious filled waiting.

Step 2: After the wait there is the dreaded shipping waiting.. This part is so nerve wracking, since I have had a doll mis-delivered and destroyed before. x.x

Step 3: Stalk the lobby. When I have a doll on the way home, I will wake up early, and no matter how long it takes, I will sit down there in that lobby and wait forever if I have to!

Step 4: Pounce on the mailman. I dont care if it gives him a heartattack!

Step 5: Snatch my box, and run back to my appartment before the mailman even knows what hits him.

Step 6: The squeeing comenses! Oogle box for a while, squee some more, then get my wits about me and jump to step 7.

Step 7: Gather my tools. Scissors, knife, and camera. (some people like having their other dolls in the pictures helping with the opening. Nah. Thats too distracting for me, its the new doll's day, no need for more!)

Step 8: Start with the box opening! This process goes through taking a picture of each layer of the opening. It can take a while.

Step 9: Once the doll is out and Iv pet him, toyed with him, and looked for damage, I will hug him and squee over him and feel like a kid on christmas.

Step 10: Trying on clothing, eyes and wigs! I will usually order a couple outfits, wigs and eyes for a new doll to try on. This is always so fun to do, to try and see what suits the doll best and it helps learn how the new doll feels and poses.

Step 11: Take more pictures with excessive squeeing!

Step 12: The first photoshoot, also a way to learn the feel of the new doll.

Step 13: Spend the rest of the day playing with and fussing over the new doll. ^^

A box opening and getting a new doll for me is nearly an all day event, unless something comes up.

    8. Ooh nice topic xD. I've got sort of a BJD ritual that starts the moment I hear the mailtruck.

      1. Scan the street for the mailman's location. It's imperative that I get outside to greet him BEFORE he rings the doorbell, or my mom will find out I bought another doll xD.

      2. Let the dogs out back, pretend that I'm going with them "to make sure they don't bark at the neighbors and pull a few stray weeds." Stroll casually outside, round the corner, and then run like hell to the front of the house once I'm out of view.

      3. Sign for doll, and hide it on the side of the house. Wait until mom's asleep, sneak it inside. Wrap box in towels and pretend I'm taking laundry upstairs. xD.

      4. Mummy time! The usual unpacking/fangirl squealing takes place here. I usually say something stupid like, "Hi big fella" and my dog looks at me like I'm psycho.

      5. Commence dressing! I fish around my unorganized boxes of various doll crap and find the perfect outfit/wig/eye combination. Then see what spare shoes I've got laying around. After the doll is dressed, I just sit it somewhere empty in my room (space is hard to find now, prime real estate is valuable!) and promise myself to take pics that never get taken xD.

Yesterday when my Abadon's body came, and I put his head on, I actually stood him up and hugged him. And then rolled my eyes at myself. I was just so excited, he's my dream doll.

    9. Ah, well, you'll have no worries at all then.:)

    10. 1. Technically - I get the camera and exacto knife ready. Open the box and start taking pics.

      2. Emotionally - give him or her my undivided attention and squee randomly at different intervals at which time I start taking more pictures.

    11. When they first arrive, I take them out and give them a good brush off making sure that there are no problems. Then I sort of play around with ideas for face-ups, but I ponder those for a while before committing to any ideas. After that, I spend some time fooling around with their joints for possible posing ideas and will play with them (depending on what else is happening at the time).

      My latest dolls have been hybrids, so it's been a waiting game for both heads and bodies...there hasn't been a lot of playing right off the bat. As well, it's summer time, so face-ups can only done at optimum weather times. ^^;;

    12. Technically: When a complete doll arrives I typically have to pick it up at the post office on my lunch break, so I anxiously finish the day at work and rush home. I typically have a quick dinner so I'll have plenty of time later, wash my hands, get out the camera and get started on the box opening! I give the doll a quick look-over to check for damage, but don't clean it unless it seems to need it, and then it's usually a quick wipedown with a damp cloth. I normally already have it's eyes here, so I put those in, and put it's hair on if I have it (I try to get that first, too) and clothes then take pictures.

Emotionally: I'm all excited, marvel at how detailed and gorgeous it is, and have fun getting the new one all dressed and ready and photographs, and sit with him while I work on the photos and upload the box opening.

The first day I have time to, I put in a movie and sit down with the new one for hot-glue sueding. If it doesn't have a faceup I do one the first time I have a few hours to devote to it.

Lately I've been getting heads and bodies separately. Those don't get the whole box-opening production, but the bodies do get sueded and the heads do get faceups the first chance I get.

    13. Usually I'll get the box, kind of stare at it in awe until I get all jittery and then I tear it open. If I remember to take pictures I do, but more often than not I dont care. I usually then look at the body and how its sculpted since there's so much more detail in person. I pose and play, dress up if they came with clothes If they have any. If I'm especially in love with the doll I'll hug and peck their cheeks! Usually I paint my dolls so I'll take them apart, clean them, and then paint away! When thats done I take more pictures, and then its time for sewing. I usually keep the doll near me the entire day and the following I take nice pictures to introduce them. :] I often play with their hair a lot when they're new, too, hold them in my lap and grab them by their cute ears and position their head different angles. I look a lot when I have a new kiddo. :]

    14. Oddly I don't bond with my dolls immediately. I can do a whole box opening photostory and be excited, but I'm sort of distant during the whole thing. Perhaps it's because I'm very shy about meeting new people.

So I usually dress them and place them somewhere where I can see them but they aren't exactly with me. Then over the course of the next two or so days, I gradually bring them closer to me ie my bed and the headboard. I touch them, play with their hair, examine their hands, take pictures; just as if meeting a real person for the first time.

Pretty soon, I'm lugging them around with me and chatting to them, kissing their head when I pick them up and we're best mates!

    15. Depends what I'm doing as I get the box. It doesn't take long though for the box to be ripped open though. Pictures? Never taken them, ripping open box is more important. I pick them out of the box, give them a look over, after then I take them to the bathroom and give them a full over scrubbing :3 Clean dolly. After then comes dressing and everything (if I've got supplies for them) before being posed around too see how everything looks and, satisfied with that, then comes the running off to get someone to do their makeup ^^;

    16. For me it honestly depends on the doll on the technical part. But the emotional part is always the same....

Run to meet the mailman; sign for the package; and run back to my apartment lickety-split.

Grab the closest scissors/knife/exacto/something sharp enough to get into the box & dive right in.

Once the box is open and the dolly is out, I'm usually so excited I forget to clothe/wig them >.> lol

After a few minutes I check to make sure they are OK.

If the dolly was bought second-hand, I check to see how dirty they are and get to cleaning them. If the doll is brand new from the company, I skip the cleaning part.

I'll find a wig and clothing that is sufficient for the time being, and keep the doll near me for a couple days. XD

I usually end up feeling like a little kid at Christmas when I get my dollies delivered. I get so excited! and pictures are NEVER taken when I go through a box opening - I'm way too quick for that.

    17. I am actually very nervous about the arrival of my first BJD... He probably won't be with me any sooner than 1 month from now, but I am almost glad because it gives me time to prepare... >.< nervousness...
Since I have never actually experienced it myself, the following are answered based on how I think I will behave.
Technically - I will wash my hands and carefully open the boxes. Check him for seam lines (which I am told he has none) , any cracks or scratches... then inspect his joints and study his anatomy to familiarize myself with his body. check posing and range... take pictures!
Emotionally - I will dress him carefully and slowly make his character come alive. Then... stare at him in amazement. <3

    18. 1. Technically - I take forever trying to get the stupid tape from off the shipping box.... then, ten minutes later, I pull open the doll box and remove the first pillow. All clothing and extra items are taken out but not opened.. After that I unwrap my doll and immediately dress them in SOMETHING. (The last few dolls have either come WITH outfits or I've shopped prior and had clothes waiting) Then I try to stand them to see how responsive they are to it.

      2. Emotionally - I normally will take my new doll, place him in the middle of my older dolls and relax with them, maybe talk to them for a few minutes or something. Who knows. It makes me more excited than I'm letting on though.... -sigh- It's a good feeling. I hope my Shiwoo gets here soon.... my El wants his brother...

      :aheartbea
