1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When will you be done?

    1. I really don’t see myself stopping unless funds become an issue or something.

    2. Unless something unfortunate happens (which I hope doesn't happen :) ) I'll never be fully done in terms of new clothes or shoes or wigs.

But with the dolls themselves, I *am* done ;) And I mean it. I know myself, I know that having *any* more would overwhelm me, so, at most, I might exchange one of those I have at home for something else but not add-add to the collection. In fact, I might even downsize on the 5 dolls I have to 2-3 in the future. I'll see ;) I love a lot all those i have at the moment and I know I would regret selling them away, so once I have had my share of play with them, I may let a half of them go... so either 2 or 3 ;) But certainly not now! :D

The thing with the wigs is that I plan ot make my own, plus, wigs, at some point, become worn out and need to be replaced anyway.

With shoes... I am a dolly shoe collector anyway. Truthfully, at this point I limit myself to only a few pairs a year (this year - 2021 I only bought three new pairs) and I'd probably also resell some I have to make room for the new, since the shoes I have in a big wooden box are already filling it to its ends...

Clothes - well, I make them and it brings me pleasure. However, once I have used my stash of fabric and have collected a full, functioning capsule wardrobe for my dolls (with enough basics, statement pieces and all in between) I will tone down with sewing and focus on redressing and photographing ;)

    3. I'm still pretty new to the hobby, so definitely not anytime soon, but like others have said here, doll collecting (and BJD in particular) seems to be the kind of hobby that's always changing and growing with you, so I don't think I'll ever really be "done" in any finalized way.

I might reach a point where I decide, "no more dolls, I've shelled all the characters I want to own", but there will always be something new to buy or make for them, like clothes, props, scenes, etc, and personally for me, there will always be infinite ways to photograph those dolls!

BJD is definitely a huge creative outlet for me as I like to sew and photograph for my dolls, and creative hobbies tend to be the ones that stick with me longterm and never really "end", even if I take long breaks from them.
Heck, I took an almost 3 year break from sewing once, and I still came back to it, and it wasn't even something I enjoyed as much (at the time, anyways) as BJD, so I really can't see myself leaving the BJD hobby in the future, either, considering how much fun it is for me in so many ways.

    4. Recently I've been feeling pretty satisfied with the dolls I have, and have been focusing more on clothing and such... there are a few companies/artists that I always admire who may release dolls in the future I'll want, but I don't have a running active wishlist or grails at the moment. Clothes though, are a constant weakness. Taobao is a menace in that regard -- there are so many options!

I also have several dolls still blank that need love, so I have to focus on who I've got atm rather than expanding too much further.

Overall though, I think I'm getting pickier the longer I'm in the hobby.

    5. I think my Collecting will be indefinite.

    6. I'm pretty much there. If Soom doesn't tempt me with a new release (or another re-release of Amber/Heliot/Dia/Sard), I'm pretty content with my dolls as they are. I have a few wigs/eyes/faceups left to complete, but no new dolls on my wishlist.

    7. I'm honestly not sure. I have been away from the hobby for eight years at this point due to finances, but it never left my mind. In that time, quite a few dolls that I had wanted were discontinued which is quite discouraging. However, there are newer dolls that have reignited my interest and I want to set goals to collect them. I have many more characters I want to shell out and some dolls that have inspired new ones!
The five dolls that I do have are still not fully complete and a couple I actually want to change a bit. So overall, I don't think I'll be fully *done* unless I run out of ideas/creativity... or space! :XD:

    8. ...probably never. my interests change and I ping between different types of dolls as my ADHD takes me, but I've got photo documentation suggesting I've been a fan of dolls in general since I was two.

That said, I haven't got plans to get any more bjds. I have one that I preordered coming some time next year (HOPEFULLY around february!) and I'm heavily eyeing assorted off-topic dolls, but I like my current collection pretty well. I have half a dozen outstanding projects for my crew (everything from making wigs to redoing faceups to the fact that I have one doll who only has one outfit) that I can do if I get so inspired.

    9. Never.

Indeed I bought my "last" doll from the whishlist and decided to stop.
Two days later.... I bought another one and currently bidding for another two.

    10. I'm super picky, so that probably saves me a lot haha. Right now I've stopped collecting, so I guess that all depends on if I ever see something I desperately want!

However, for sculpting my own dolls, I hope that will never stop! <3

    11. I think I might be done?!

I have my perfect doll, I have all her accessories, I have no wish to own anything else.

While there is a sense of accomplishment, it also feels a bit sad… I think I will move away from collecting for a while and see if I can find another way to enjoy this hobby.

    12. I’m still fairly new to the hobby (coming up on a year in March), so at the moment I’m not sure if I’ll ever be done! I think there will definitely be periods of time where I collect fewer dolls just due to my ADHD finding other major interests (or due to finances) but I can definitely see myself still buying at least the occasional new doll well into my future. Until I run out of space - but then again, I can always sell dolls to make room!

    13. I really NEED to be done now, because I've run out of space to display them. But never say never.

    14. Probably never, every time I tell myself “that’s it, no more dolls”,and the next day I will see a new release…

    15. If i should find my self suddenyl falling out of love with the dolls or i got some horrible news that i now have an expiration date. If that was the case i'd probably try to sell as many as i could and ask my friends if they'd want any of them. Anything but going to the landfill really.

    16. I thought I was done. I was happy with the dolls I had and didn't plan on getting any more. Then I lost interest and fell out of the hobby for a few years. Now my interest is back and I ended up getting a body for a floating head I'd had for ages and then I came across a gorgeous boy that I really wanted, thought about it for a while and now he's on order and the long wait begins again.

So, my answer is I don't know because even when I thought I was done, I wasn't.

    17. I can hardly imagine that I will ever be "finished" in a hobby like this. I don't have a specific goal and there are always new dolls that I would like to have.
I think I'll only be "finished" when I don't feel like collecting anymore.

    18. I am not done playing with them or buying new things for them. I think I spent hours just trying out eyes. I kind of want a couple of 1/3 SD boys to go with my new 1/3 SD girls, I held off on purchasing, because there are so many options, it made me overwhelmed.

    19. I like things to change so I don't look to be done anytime soon. I just recently completed a wishlist of dolls I want so I definitely expect my crew to get bigger! I definitely have a habit of selling dolls I lose interest in, so I'm sure the crew will just keep changing.

    20. Honestly? As long as I'm in the hobby, I'll probably never be done. There's going to be new dolls being released and tastes will change so my crew tends to be in a bit of flux (though I'll never sell my first).
