1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When you buy a doll, does anyone else have a say in what mold/company you buy?

May 7, 2011

    1. I usually ask my friend what she thinks of a doll I find.. But if I really like that doll, I don't care what anyone says X)

    2. Not really. I don't really have anyone to influence my opinion on BJDs. So I just buy whatever dolls I feel like I wanna buy, if I could buy one haha.

Though, when I was gonna buy my first doll I was influenced in not spending all my tax money on a doll I didn't particularly want, and save some more money to buy one that I did. Lol.

    3. Usually I let my family influence me on things I buy but not with dolls... I plan and research and buy the dolls and accessories I want on my own. I show them later! They usually compliment my dolls, but my dolls are to my tastes, I don't expect them to gush over them or anything.

Partial exception for the minifee Marcia I'm sharing with my sister. We both picked her out, but I did the face-up(s) myself. I make whatever clothes I want for her, and my sister does the same. I keep her in my space, but I told my sister she can put the doll in her space whenever she wants. I'm just more of a doll person than my sister is.

    4. I always ask my fiancé what he thinks of a doll but in the end if he doesn't like it but I really do I will buy it anyway. I don't even bother asking anyone else though because most of the people that know about my hobby don't really approve.

    5. I pay my dolls alone and for me. So nobody gets a word in this.

    6. I make the decisions of what sculpts I like and which ones I would consider buying. Depending on the character of the doll, friends will get to have a say in my final decision. I share a story that involves my dolls with a friend, so if I am looking for a doll for that story I will most likely be looking with that friend.

However, some of my dolls have nothing to do with that plot, and thus they are completely my choice! I don't let others have a say in them, not even my parents, who are very adamant on controlling the things that come into our house. They also think that collecting dolls is a girly hobby, and would probably rather have their son be into something like... well, school work, but I buy the dolls, so I get the final say. I'll still ask for people's opinions, especially if I'm stuck between two sculpts for one character, but in the end I decide who enters my resin family.

    7. Know has a say in any doll that I may or may not get. Only time some one has a say is when they buy the doll them self. Than I don't have a say. But I am o.k. with that.

    8. I'd have to say that in the end, the decision on what doll I want is mine and mine alone. But I do have influences... for example, I'll often ask what my roommate (she also collects BJDs) thinks of a certain sculpt I'm considering, because she'll often have some helpful points for me to consider. Sometimes I will refrain from buying a doll I know my roommate will want, because I know there will be a time and a place where I can get it without feeling guilty ^^;.
But if I want it, I'll get it. I know of a few friends who aren't fond of the realistic look of Iplehouse, for example, but that isn't keeping me from saving up for an Eric!

    9. I generally will ask my hubby's opinion of multiple sculpts when trying to make a doll purchase but in the end, the decision still rests with me.

    10. absolutely not, they're not paying (or even helping me pay) for my doll and since I'm paying for her and she's for me then no one else's opinion of her should matter

    11. my parents don't care much. and i don't have any friends in the hobby, so i have no influence there. it's all me~

    12. Nope my parents don't care at all if you ask them they think all the doll companies merged into one and all reside in Japan lol.

    13. I always narrow it down to my top three and then go to my boyfriend for his opinion and his reasoning behind his choice and either get his choice or I don't

    14. I think that since I like so many sculpts and its improbable to get them all, I enlist the help of my boyfriend and friends. However, I still apply the one week rule - if I go back to it one week and still want it then I know it's not on impulse

    15. My family likes my dolls but they let me chose which ones I want considering I use my own money. I do tend to mention what dolls I like etc, and my mum was the one who planted the idea for Cesavier and Seraphine having a baby. I once told a friend that I was happy with just my two dolls and he said 'Just two? Don't you want to have a collection, like a big family?'. It really surprised me because he wasn't in the hobby at all and he was being earnestly serious.

My family have a kind of passed on love for DollZone now haha.

I have however let my mum decide entirely what most recent doll purchase I made... because it's going to be her doll. She just doesn't know it yet ;) When we had some free time together I asked her which doll she'd pick and showed her all different dolls etc. She thinks we were just passing the time when actually I was scouting out her Christmas present

    16. For me the question is kinda pointless...because I don't pick the company first and then the doll. I find a doll I like..and its irrelevant the company it comes from.

Unless I was told something bad about the company (like them shipping out dolls in bad conditions, ect), it would not change anything.

    17. I research about BJD alone, and I decide it myself, too. My parents don't want to hear about this so they don't get a word in this issue. Besides, in my country, there are just a few people know about this hobby so I can't share with anyone. It's all me ^^

    18. When I have a hard time choosing between two dolls, I usually consult with my SO since he comes to a decision much quicker than I do. I usually only ask after I’ve been thinking over the decision for days upon end and stil can’t decide. Other than him, I don’t really ask anyone about it :)

    19. Not very many people in my circle know about my doll hobby besides my husband. When I'm considering a new doll I usually take him into account, because he can be easily creeped out by dolls. Anthro dolls and centaur dolls are out of his comfort zone. My only doll now is a DC Bella, which creeped him out a lot until she got a face-up and wig. Now he has mentioned that she is "kind of cute." If he can handle Doll Chateau though, I'm thinking he wont have a problem with many dolls.;)

    20. Yes, the voices in my head.

That said, unless the person with the opinion is paying for my rent/food/internet, there is almost no way in hell they will get a say. There are two exceptions: my collaborative writing partner, if I choose to doll one of his characters, and my best friend who's gonna have an opinion whether or not I like it. :XD: But even in the end it's my money and my right to choose.
