Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. When your doll room is your bedroom (and your home office, and...)

Feb 22, 2022

    1. My bedroom is my study and my art studio and my doll room too and I like it. I'm a minimalist. I had the opportunity to live alone and have two separate rooms and I thought it was a waste of space, so I now have a flatmate.

So, it's cool to have the dolls, because I can always have a look at them. Besides my clothes and school-related papers (of which I have plenty both for my studies where I learn and my school where I teach), I don't have much more clutter. The majority of my art supplies is about the dolly clothes, so I plan to use it up and downsize. Aside from one classic clothes wardrobe, I have two other pieces which are regular, pine-wood shelving units. I plan to downsize so much so as to keep only one of them.

The only thing which is a problem is my work out mat that currently is cluttered with my school papers and doll bodies awaiting some sealing... and since I'm busy with school (thus the school papers) I have no time for the sealing and no space for working out... I HATE it. But I'm working on it and may even do something about it today :D

    2. My dolls are kept in my bedroom closet in boxes and body bags right now. I am going to move again later this yrar so that is perhaps where they will stay.

I would love to have a specific display case / diorama for them but would be anxious about lighting.

Luckily my office is a separate area.

    3. I'm not in a single room but I like to keep my dolls all together in one-- My work room. It's where I spend most of my time and I like to have at least one with me at my desk at all times. I only have one SD at the moment, the rest are MSD and smaller, but no, I haven't felt crowded. And while I only have under 10 at the moment, I have a bunch of off topic dolls as well and still don't feel crowded. If I had a lot more SDs though, I'd probably feel a little cramped.

    4. My BJDs currently live in three bookcases in my fiancé and I’s bedroom, because we have blackout curtains in there, and I like having them close when I sleep. My playline dolls reside in our livingroom, because they’re more resilient to UV damage.

    5. When I started the hobby, I was a teenager living with my parents, so my dolls stayed in my bedroom. At that point it did not bother me since I did not have that many BJDs, and it felt pretty normal having all my own stuff in my bedroom. After moving out, I tended to put my dolls in storage in closets/under things or somewhere outside of my bedroom. I found I did not like them in my bedroom, though I sometimes still kept them there because of roommates or living in small places.
Currently they are in my living room which I also do not really like. Maybe it is a little weird given that I like BJDs, but I find I really do not like them around me all the time since they just take up so much space when compared to other figures or decorative items. Eventually I want to set them up in the home office I share with my partner, keeping some stored and others displayed with doll stands or seated on doll furniture.

    6. I leave them out in the closet of a secondary bedroom (now my office). It is dark, cold, and dry. The shelves were already installed and provided a perfect place for my dolls to hang out. The only concern I have is that the closet does not have a window or a vent to circulate air. Therefore, I leave the door open a few times a week and put an air purifier inside to make sure the air in the room is okay. I think most smells come from the clothing of the dolls, not resin, at least in my case.

    7. I never thought the dolls could harm my health if they're just in my room, I do know that it can be harmful if you're sanding a doll without a mask. I don't really know if just being around them is harmful to our health but I can tell you I've been having my resin dolls in my room since many years ago and I'm very healthy :)

My room is small and I have a lot of stuff out in the open. I collect plushies, figurines, many types of dolls, books and seeing them all makes me happy. The only thing that makes me feel overwhelmed is the boxes... I have so many boxes and no room for them so I made like a wall of boxes and it's OK for now ^^ I need the boxes because I move a lot. If I had my own house I wouldn't keep them (maybe I would keep the pretty ones)

However, I am not buying more dolls because I really don't habe more space!! my dream is to find a bigger place or have my own doll room :( I'm selling my newest dolls because of space issues.

    8. When I first started the hobby, I lived at home and shared a bedroom with my sister. Never had any negative health effects from keeping them close by! However, I kept the dolls out on the shelf and honestly did a terrible job of keeping out the sunlight and keeping out the dust. Some of my Minifees are pretty yellowed because of that, and I got some of their wigs pretty dirty.

Now that I am moved out of my parents house, I have them in storage while working on my future office. I plan on storing them in a display case with a glass front to keep the dust at bay, as well as reduce light exposure...hopefully!

    9. I don't think there should be any health risks being around your dolls once good quality resin is cured. Unless it feels too crowded, and if it makes you happy to have them around, you should. I'd like to eventually have them on a shelf, a bit shaded from the sun and all, but where I can access them a bit more easily than when they're in a box.

    10. I work in the same room with my dolls, and I don't mind! I love it, actually. I have a space on my enclosed bookshelf dedicated to my dolls. I enjoy looking at them. :3nodding:

As for health, resin only seems to be an issue if you're sanding or dealing with it wet, so you should be fine! I think a *lot* of people would be complaining and sharing their horror stories if they had health issues due to their dolls.

    11. I don't live in one room... but my doll collection does. (My gang are all kept together in my sewing room-) When I spend a lot of time in there, I haven't noticed any ill-effects.

Properly cured resin shouldn't be a hazard, but if you're worried about it just make sure you have good air circulation... Leave the door opened, or a window.

    12. As long as you remember to ventilate the room and wear a proper mask (nothing flimsy, but filters and everything) when doing any kind of sanding or face-up work, you'll be fine. If you can get outside to do that sort of stuff, even better. But I've had resin sat out for years and don't have any problems.

But, yeah, it can get very cramped, very quickly. Especially if your room is pretty small and you have a load of other hobbies outside of the doll stuff. I struggle to find places for my dolls to sit, and I'm in the process of paying off two more (a 73cm and a 48cm one). :doh

    13. I have a small walk in closet in my room where the dolls (and books, and a big pile of plush) live. I really like it since it helps my bedroom feel less cluttered and also they are more protected from ambient light in there. They almost have their own little room lol.

    14. I would love to have a hobby room... but I think some of my dolls would still live in the bedroom anyway-- Vince, definitely, but maybe some others. The hobby room would give me space to work on them, but it would also be a tabletop gaming space. Perfect for displaying my D&D inspired dolls in, but others would have display space in my bedroom.
