Where do you keep your BJDs' boxes?

Nov 1, 2004

    1. If it's a nice quality box.. then I like to keep it... just because I like boxes xD. Well all know when we got gifts as kids, the box was the best part.. well.. yeah *still hasn't outgrown that mentality*. Besides, I think the majority of doll owners can agree that there's a certain "rush" to seeing that big, beautiful box and taking the lid off for the first time :D........ But I don't think it's a new idea. In the olden days ladies use to have "hat boxes" to protect their fancy, expensive hats didn't they?

Since I think of these dolls has high quality pieces of "play-with-able" art, I think their boxes are very important. It's like their mini portable "bed/house" xD. It's like how the covers of special edition DVDs or video games are all supped up and made with slightly more durable materials... the box presentation should accurately reflect the love and care that has been taken in making the product on the inside ^^.

I really like my Toppi's box o.o cuz it's got her picture on it ^^;. And I like my Marianne's box because I like the color and logo...

But I would buy a doll without its own box... just because in the end the doll is more important to me than the box, but if I can have the box too I'd definitely want it :XD: as for buying just a box... someday when I have extra money to kick around... it'd be cool to have a Volks Luna box xD;;.... *dont have one right now since I bought only head*...

    2. It's important to me to keep whatever doll box the doll came in, whether or not it's the doll's original box or not. For instance, my F-27 came in a Kun box, and my Cyndy's body in a Magical Michael box, but I wouldn't want to trade to get an old one-off box or a Cyndy 1 box. Even the little Sephora box that my Cyndy's head came in is special to me. The only time I get rid of a box is when I get rid of that doll or change their body and sell the old one.

    3. Yes, I would like to buy a doll in its original box, but no, I wouldn't let the lack of the original box bar me from buying a doll.

    4. I hate the fact that boxes are such an important part of doll collecting! I hate storing those things! But I do, because it is........ blah!

Having said that, I wouldn't mind buying a doll without the box.

    5. I like having the boxes, but it wouldn't matter to me if a doll didn't come with one. I know of some dolls already that come in carriers and sometimes those don't get sold with the doll.

I like keeping boxes for myself because I can store doll-related stuff that I'm not going to use for a while in them. My boys don't stay in their boxes very much. *eyes them sprawled all over her bed*

    6. I kept my DOT box because it has all my doll stuff in it, and I kept the DIM box because it's a really nice box and use it to store shipping stuff and pinkies.
But, I probably won't keep my minifee box, no point.

I would only think that the box was important if it was a limited edition and the box was really nice. Otherwise, it just takes up space, especially since I don't keep my dolls in them.

    7. I never thought of boxes as "doll stuff storage" space before..... thanks to everyone who posted that idea in this thread... omigosh I'm gonna go do that right away xp (it looks so untidy in my drawer xD").

    8. Yes....the boxes tend to be large....but I keep them....just in case. They are great for storing doll stuff. I haven't bought one without its box yet. I do know I would be worried about getting the doll in one piece without it.

      Just my 2 cents. :)

    9. So far it looks like most people want the box which is very interesting to me. I can see the point about the fun of opening it up for the first time but otherwise I just don't get. The whole box thing started with vintage dolls where having the original box gave more value to a doll & made a bit of sense as these things had survived 50+ years intact. Then there were the collector Barbies where people didn't even take the doll out of the box. But with fashion dolls & BJDs & other adult play dolls it just seems strange that a piece of cardboard is so important. Personally I love Iplehouse dolls where you get a carrier, something very useful, instead of a box to store.

Anybody have some unused attic space?

    10. [shrugs] I have no intention of selling my dolls, so the reason I like having their box has nothing to do with future resale value or anything like that. It's also not a matter of having it for some "box opening" experience. (I didn't really linger over that part with my first, I certainly haven't with anyone since! )

I like having them just for storage purposes.

When I go out of town, I pack everyone back into their boxes and move them into storage as a precaution. That's much easier to do when everyone *has* a box to go into. Not having a box wouldn't keep me from buying a doll I wanted, but it's a definite plus.

    11. I have kept all the boxes and I store them in our storage space in the basement. I have only thrown away one - my Supia Yisols box - because it was badly damaged (When the package arrived and I opend it, the Supia box was torn and the doll was out of the box... scared me a little.) so I didn't see a point in keeping it. I also have two dolls that I've bought without a box (head and body separately).

    12. As long as the doll is well packed and arrives safe and sound, I really don't care about the box. I agree with you- I'm buying the doll, not its box.

    13. Storage and moving, but for buying a doll, no. Not that I really do much with the boxes I have... but I do like having them. Sentimental, I guess ^^;;;

    14. They usually end up in the closet just incase I ever happen to need it again.

    15. I would prefer the box it came in. It just feels like the doll was better cared for if they still have the box. That wouldn't stop me from buying a doll without a box, If I really wanted that doll.

    16. I use my boxes for storing doll stuff as well as my doll carrier (though I'm gonna have to clear that out when I need to use it >.< ), with the exception of Shushu's box when she arrives I probably wont keep any more though since they're already taking up too much space on top of my shelves and obscuring my LoTR sword that's mounted on the wall from view which is a a real shame.

I don' think a doll needs a box to be 'complete' it's a bonus sure but either way I don't think it impacts on the doll's value at all.

    17. I put my dolls in the boxes when I don't have them out, so I find them definitely useful for that end of storage. Original boxes don't matter to me, but they are nice. So long as I have enough boxes to fit two dolls to a box at night, then I'm fine.

It's mainly because I don't have much room so there's not much else for me to do with them except toss the boxes, but they're all rather nice and do add a nice touch having them for my dolls. I suppose when I move and can't take them with me I'll just figure out some other storage method.

    18. Only one of my clan came with a box. ::laughs::

Mikelandros was part of the Soom - Voice of Angels set, and as such came in a plain brown box in big ziplocks.

Weros was purchased as a head, then later a body...Bobobie doesn't have special boxes, but the body did have a cushioned sleeping bag.

Kasada is only a head, and came in a Elfdoll head box. :D I did keep it.

The only one that came with the traditional box with cushions was Gaia, and yes, I kept her box. Helps that it's only some 9" long. :D (She is also the only one that came assembled)

    19. As far as shipping is concerned, I think the box is important - I would think twice about buying a doll without its original box, but only as far as I'd be more worried about breakage during shipping otherwise.

      Having a box/not having a box doesn't affect the value of the doll itself to me; but I DO keep all my boxes for them, even though I don't use them - mainly because I just like the boxes - some of them are really pretty - and I hate throwing potentially useful things away, even if I can't find a use for them right now... XD;

    20. hmmm, well i don't really think having the box or not affects the value of the doll, maybe the limited dolls that have their face on the front but i don't see the problem with throwing out the box.

I kept my DZ box only to convert it to a bed where i lie my doll down everynight. I'll be keeping boxes only for the doll to sleep in. But if one day i get a box that sleep two dolls then the originals are going. It takes up space but i keep boxes to keep stuff in.

My doll stuff is in shoe box at the moment. if it's pretty it's all good.
