Where do you keep your BJDs' boxes?

Nov 1, 2004

    1. I keep all my boxes (with their cushions inside) in a plastic closed container (with cedar chips) in the basement, up on a shelf. I mostly do that because you never know when you have to move or ship your dolls and nothing protects them better than their original wrappings/casings. The plastic container and the chips are to keep them safe until I need them. Yah Im odd that way.:sweat

    2. The reason I keep my boxes is also in case I have to move (unlikely as that is) or if I end up ever having to sell any of them. I haven't ever NOT bought a doll because it didn't have a box, but it does bother me a bit. I'd MUCH rather have the original box than not have it. To the point that if two of the same doll were for sale on the marketplace and one had it's box and one didn't - I'd be willing to pay more (and more shipping) to get the one with the box.

    3. Gosh I have way too many boxes lol! I have some in storage, under the house in plastic bags, on top of high shelves in the closets ug. I wouldn't mind getting rid of some of them but if I were to possible sell one (which I'm not really planning on doing at the moment) then it's nice to know I have the accompanying box. The plain Volks boxes I could probably get rid of but the ones that go with a limited edition doll, I will probably hold onto but even then it's debatable for me in case I need them if I ever had to sell.

    4. Currently they're right next to my bed. The dolls all sleep in their boxes so I have them set up nice with them. When we move I'm going to have a walk in closet and I'll put a bookshelf in. The very top shelf will have tools and such. The one just below that will have clothes, under that is going to be Rayne, then Sybal just below, and Sei on the second to last shelf. Quinn will have the bottom shelf when I get him at the end of the year.

    5. Maybe this is only aimed at people with multiple dolls and people that do not keep their dolls stored in their boxes like I know some collectors do ... Personally i have doll rooms for my dolls and i like seeing them out and about every day. However, since i have around 40 dolls i've had trouble finding room for all of the boxes. Some smaller ones can fit inside the bigger ones, but still it's hard to keep them all.

Do you throw them out? I'm always afraid that if i want to sell a doll I won't have a shipping box for it so I tend to save them.

Do you make anything out of them? Like diaramas? Or cut out the pictures or logos for the art?

any ideas for making the boxes useful?

    6. i usually throw away the box and keep the cushion.

but i realise that it can be used to store the doll clothes and accessories.
owners can even drape nice cloth over the box, and use the cloth as a background, for taking pix of their dolls.

    7. keep the stuff, and then whoopee! CAT TOY. my cats love boxes(lol)

    8. I'm still wrestling with this, personally. I'm hoping to keep them in the back of the bedroom closet, because the way my closet was designed is, well, lacking, and there's a lot of dead space along the back of it. We'd initially considered putting in shelves for -- gasp! -- our clothes, but realized quickly even then there wouldn't be enough space for my costume collection and the roomie's shocking tee shirt collection. (I doubt we could even get all his shirts back there.) We're hoping to just sorta stack them all back there. For the moment, though, they're nested in the corners of the bedroom we're trying desperately to organize and getting shifted around each time we tackle a corner, since the closet is the last to get gutted.

As for a 'useful' thing, though? They do make good temporary benches to stack to sit them on, with a nice drape thrown over them. It's pretty easy to get nice table runners inexpensively, which can be an enormous help to keep costs sane.

    9. i use them to store wigs and dollclothes in, things i don't use every day, they go under my bed, next to the carriers, and my dolls sit on their own bed.

    10. I recycled/threw out all the boxes. Bugs like to nest in them, and they eventually get moldy and start to stink. So I would never put my dolls back in them. And as for shipping, those boxes are heavy, it's cheaper to ship them in another box if you sell them (I know, I just sold several dolls). So I really wouldn't recommend keeping them...

    11. Personally, I recycle most of them. I never ship the dolls I sell strung anyway, so I knew it was pointless to keep them. That said, I have kept a few, two of them are currently together as a giant bed, and a third is the base of a daybed, so they CAN have a use :)

    12. I keep the pillows and throw the boxes out. There's no point in me keeping them and they are in the way.

    13. They're stacked in my closet. I keep their stuff in them. I guess I'm sort of a pack rat though, but its mostly because of the sentimental attachment. Those are the packages my little resin beauties arrived in, so they are special to me. I know thats pretty stupid, but come moving time, they'll have a safe way to travel.

    14. Right now I keep the boxes, because I don't have a doll carrier yet, so when I go to meets, I put them in their boxes and carry them. I store them on the shelf underneath my doll display, which keeps them out of the way and doesn't really waste space for me (because I have more shelves than I need). I actually keep the boxes they were shipped in, too. Honestly, I found it to be a great idea, because when I resold some dolls, I already had the perfect size box to ship them out in. Shipping was never an issue to me, it was always around $10.

I'm sure when I get/make a multi-doll carrier, I'll probably throw out the boxes of dolls I know I won't be selling and keep the pillows.

    15. At this moment I have kept all the boxes because I will move out within the next 6 months if everything goes well. So I want my dolls to be carefully packed then.

When I am on my own, I think I'd still keep the boxes somewhere. Just storage them somewhere untill I need them again.

    16. I have a pretty big room in a large house, so even if I have multiple dolls in the future, I'd save all the boxes. I'm the type of person who hates to throw anything out ^^;; My one girl's box, I use to keep all her stuff in. I know I won't loose the stuff this way since I know it's in the only big pink box in my room XD

    17. It's not silly :) That's how I feel about the boxes too.

    18. I don't have a single doll yet who has arrived new and complete, at least part of all mine are secondhand... so I have a grand total of TWO doll boxes, both for Dollzone minis. (My Dolkot boy came in a carrier, which I was thrilled about!) So for now, they're in the top of my closet. I'll have another two boxes soon, so I'll put the MNF one with those and the Puki one will fit on a bookshelf and is super-cute anyway. If I had a lot of doll boxes to deal with they'd go out in the storage building - I wouldn't throw them away unless I absolutely couldn't find space for them.

I also collect Hallmark Christmas ornaments, so "keep the box! Pristine!" is drilled into my brain. I know it doesn't really matter for BJD's, but it's still there in my head! (I also have not been able to successfully convince my best friend's hubby who is a Star Wars collector that boxes don't matter with BJD's, and they don't come in boxes specific to them. He's used to the "must keep the box or the value is lost" type of collecting!)

    19. AmyAngel - I know at least one company (Luts) that has issued special boxes. My Art Delf came in a special wooden box with a brocade and tasseled pillow ;p I don't know if anybody would care if they were buying the doll second hand (i'd hate to shell out the shipping on that wooden box!) but it is a special limited box and pillow set :sweat

... and come to think of it Pipos sometimes has special pillows for some of their limiteds. The Red Ribbon Storey rooneys came w/ special pillows and so did the original Siamese Baha. It's not something you would even know unless you got it directly from the company though, i was surprized and delighted w/ the pretty siames Baha pillow (blue stripe w/ lace).

    20. I have been thinking about this of late as well...since I have two dolls that will be added to my collection soon.
My first girl came in a carrier bag, which I loved, and so I got rid of the mailing box. But my second doll will be an Amber...and I don't think I will be able to bring myself to throw out that spiffy Soom MD box. ^_^"
Since she comes with the neat little zipper bag, and my third doll is a MnM, I think the box may go to him. Good to keep him safe during travel and what not. Either that, or I will use the zipper bag for The Faun and put the other two in the carrier (if they fit)... and use the box for clothing!
As it is, my one girl has filled a rather large boot box (they were knee high boots) with just her clothes...so I need more space...^_^"
      Heh, sorry, that was long.
