Where do you keep your doll?

Nov 16, 2004

    1. you can make them a nice squishy couch :D then they won't get scratched from sharp corners... There's a tut in sewing wig and jewellery making for SD sized sofas but I can't find it...

    2. Problem is that shelves, dressers, and drawers are my kitten's favorite place to be.. XD I have many other things on my dresser's and such.. (Anime figures, Little Apple Dolls, etc). Even on the top of the highest shelf, she still manages to get up there and knock everything down, from the video games to the dolls and toys, to the lamp. I don't mind since most of it isn't fragile or expensive, but picking things up for the umpteenth time and setting the straight, I began to think that it's not the most optimal place for a bjd to be.

    3. Ken floats about the front room...normally sitting either on the computer desk in front of one of my printers, or on my computer tower, though he also sits on the armrest of the couch leaning against the video shelf next to it, on the video shelf, on the coffee table, and atop the taller video shelving when my son and the cats are getting too...well, hyper, or active, so that he doesn't get hurt in their playing. Once I have a few more, though, my dad is going to help me build a glass fronted cabinet for my dolls to stay in when not being played with, to protect them from the cats and my growing son.

    4. I just keep mine in her original box when I'm not playing with her. I don't think it's sad to store them in their boxes. They are dolls afterall ;) I think she's safest in her box with her pillows. :)

    5. I'll be building a butsudan-style raised cabinet for my charges, set up on a small shelving system to store clothes. The cabinet part itself will be decorated with gold leafing and a nice scene on the interior for them to sit and enjoy when I am not around. :) . I also intend to arrange their belongings in there to feel like a little room. Now that I actually have a doll of my own, I can justify building furniture. hehe.

    6. i don't have any cats,but i have dogs and they don't really bother Ari.as like some people here,she's in her box(without the lid on)laying on her cushion she came with.when she's not with me i often pose her around my room doing something like watching T.V,that way i don't feel bad :)

    7. Heh, well I don't mean it's sad for the doll... More for me. XD I'm the type of person who likes to have everything where I can see and stare at it. For instance, I have my Sailormoon barbie dolls hanging out on top of one of the kitchen cabinets, cause I can't bear to put them away. :3

      @mystical-maz > Thanks, I'll definitely check it out. <3

    8. I have one of those desks with a higher shelf at the back, designed for a CD rack or something like that. My doll sits up there, or lies on there, and he's fine. I think if it's a shelf your cat can't jump to your dollie would be safe, unless the shelf rattles easily if the cat is jumping around.
      But beware, they get a lot of light out on shelves - I leave my curtains closed when I'm out to try and reduce this.

    9. I put my dolls on my nightstand. My cat never gets up there because there is not enough room ^_^;

    10. Mine sit on the top shelf of a bookshelf (completely dedicated to them). It's shadowed up there so there's not much light exposure, and my cat generally sticks with his own furniture and doesn't bother my shelves, so they're completely safe.

    11. Saif lives in the box he came in when I'm not around and sits or stands on my desk when I'm there.

      >_<' I haven't got a spot to dedicate as his room... or any furniture...

    12. Hm... sounds like you have a bit of a problem there. <<;

      My doll lays in his box (Erm, I mean bed.) when I'm not using him. It's left open and has pillows all around it. His bed, is left on my bed whenever I am not around. I too have a cat, but he seems pretty cool with the doll. The worst I've seen is him deciding he would sit on the doll because of some confusion about who's bed the box is. >,< But now he just lays in it when the doll does not occupy it. -___-; Dumb cat.

    13. I only have one doll but I also have two children, one of whome is just over 2 years of age with a tendency of flinging things he like across the room. Most of the valuable stuff is locked behind re-inforced glass but I couldn't do that to my doll... So he is sitting on a book shelf above my desk in my bedroom looking down at anything I am typing.

    14. Mine's in his box too. I actually prefer it because I feel he's safest there, and yucky dust can't reach him. I understand what you mean though, it is nice when you can turn and admire your doll at any time.
      Another reason mine isn't out: there's no room. :/ I was thinking about putting up shelves and having one of them be "his" place.

      I don't know about your kitties though~ I have puppies and they don't bother with anything that doesn't smell like food. I don't suppose you'd keep them out of your room? XD Nah- I know it's nice to have your pets with you also!
      I like your idea about the entertainment center with the glass door~ that's what I would get if I was in your predicament. Eventually, I would decorate it pretty so that it really shows off the doll, and you can use any storage area to put their eyes, wigs, clothes, etc. You can also have it facing away from direct sunlight.

      "The Doll Center" XD

    15. Mine are all over my house, some on furniture for them, others on mine. Jenova and Fuan are usually on a Victorian style couch I got from Ross a while back next to my compy, Jun is usually on my compy table itself right off to the side of my keyboard. Lan's usually sitting up on my jewelry chest [which is next to my compy]. Hesue's high up on a book shelf overseeing us all and sort of half off the edge [he's solid so he never falls]. Megumi, Saiyuri, my daughter's Kazuya and Persephone are hanging out in the livingroom [on a covered heater in the summer and then up on top of the televee wardrobe in the winter] George is all over, but usually on one bookshelf or another. Fanuel usually stands just beneath Lan up against the jewelry stand. My daughter [Acid-Flier here]'s Jin, Krystal and Draco are in the livingroom on a bookshelf. Uriel's been all over since I had him on the stand that holds my Plushie house, but it's too close to the bed and he kept getting knocked off so I had to move him. Right now he's on Jenova's wardrobe, but I'll prolly end up moving him again. Babby!Samara is next to Lan right now, but she's been all over as well since I haven't found a permanent place for her yet.

      It really varies, but most of the time they find spots and end up staying there for a bit. Once they claim an area, they pretty much own it. If you set them far enough back on a bookshelf or dresser or whatnot, you shouldn't have any issues with them falling. Hesue's perched up high, on a corner and partially hanging off it like I said and he's never once fallen or even come close.

    16. My dolls hang out in the living room. I have an odd shelving unit that fits them well that I had gotten at a thrift store. I always have them sitting down to lessen the chance of any accidents and I don't put any on the bottom shelf in reach of my dog--I doubt she would bother them, but I don't trust her not to grab a fur wig thinking it was a fun toy. I don't have much in the way of SD sized furniture, so I made bench seating out of some of their boxes draped with cloth.

    17. I have a puki puki that I keep in a cellphone "chair" on my computer desk, since that's where I am the majority of the day.

      I have cats as well (two kittens and an older cat, to be exact) and I have had problems with the youngest taking her and pulling her wig off, knocking the hands and feet off (they're magnetic) and even knocking an eye loose. But I've gotten to where I either shut off my work room from them when I'm not in it, or I hide her in my desk drawer at night.

      It all depends on if you plan to fool with them a lot. If so, choose a place where you're at in the house and find them a safe haven there (high shelf, window with no way to climb up to or on it, etc) and keep them there when you are there and hide them in their boxes/carrying bags at night. But if you want them more for show, then I'd invest in a doll stand and glass/plastic cases.

    18. i keep my one doll in a wooden box by my bed. and when i get my second dollie i'll put her in this basket with sheets and a pillow. >3<

    19. I recently got a really nice bookshelf built into a cutaway portion of my wall- my boy's on the very top shelf, up high in his box with two fleece blankets and his soft-cushion-thing that came with him. That really made me wig out though, when we found out we had bats flying around up there... as if they would nest in his box or something...
