Where do you keep your doll?

Nov 16, 2004

    1. I'm still working on it, but I have a bookcase/hutch type thing that sits on top of my desk that I plan on turning into a little house of sorts for my tinies. It will have curtains to protect them from dust and sunlight.

    2. At the moment, my doll sits on top of my bookshelf in my room. It is situated away from my windows, but even so the area gets some sunlight, so he spends particularly sunny days sitting on top of a shelving unit in my closet.

I plan to get a nice, wall-mounted shelf for dolls sometime soon, since there is not room for another doll on top of that bookshelf - not even for the tiny that I have coming!

    3. I have this really cool ledge that goes around my room, and a small bookshelf under part of it. The dolls go on the ledge above the bookshelf, behind a box to keep them kind of hidden from the sun...unfortunately for my ledge I have another SD doll on the way and they're kind of out of space in the tiny area I had them in...so I'm going to have to come up with something new.

    4. Right now, when I'm not playing with her, she'll be on her box with cushions, on my bedroom.
My mom & dad are planning to make a glass cabinet for her (and my upcoming dolls), so I can put her (and the upcoming dolls) on that cabinet while I'm not playing with her (the others).

    5. An Ikea bookshelf. I have adapted the doors to provide protection from sunlight and all. It looks really nice and neat!

    6. In the basement on a bookshelf. The basement has a half window and does get some light, but the bookshelf faces away from the window. Plus it's right next to my computer. So I can always look up and smile at them. :)

    7. I am very soon going to head over to Ikea to get a bookshelf so there can be more room for them. But for now, the minis are all on top of a small dresser - 4 of them squeezed onto a doll-sized couch, and three crammed onto a doll bench. They look very uncomfortable, all elbowing each other. Devon, being the only SD-size doll, relaxes on top of another dresser in a wicker chair, usually with a book. I got one of those Our Generation wardrobes for their clothing, and the top shelf of that is now holding the floating heads, hands and the Puki. The wardrobe has doors that close, and the others are all covered with towels when I'm not there.

    8. Wow, Teddy, nice set up for your dolls! You have loads of dolls!

Mine either take up half of my bed if I'm in Sheffield (yay for double beds!) or they sit on my desk if my boyfriend is staying over. If I'm in Manchester, they sit wherever they can find space. Boxes, computer chair.... it's not the biggest of rooms!

    9. I'm keeping my doll in her box for now, because she doesn't have head (it's out for make-up) and I can't play with her! When she'll be complete, I will put her on a shelf in my room ^^

    10. mine have their own bed, my father made it for me, they do move a bit, the msd girl I have sits somewhere near me usualy

    11. They are out in the living room on a box case which has square shelves that look like little rooms by our dining table and work desk. I like the fact that we look at them all the time....

And even though I am not creeped out by dolls, I don't really fancy them being in my bedroom when I sleep though... hence outside.

    12. Right now mine are still in their boxes. Once I sell my keyboard, they'll be going up on the shelf so they can be out of their box and out of reach of the animals.

    13. This is going to sound so very silly and childish, and I'm kind of embarrassed to say, but......I keep Rikka on my bed. He's usually right beside my pillow, sitting or laying on one of the doll blankets/pillows he came with, with a small white siberian tiger plushie he likes to use as a pillow, a smaller stuffed puppy he cuddles with while I'm out, and an MSD-sized quilt I found. I suppose you could say it's a "display area" of sorts, but it's nothing like a protective glass case or anything like that. Rikka's box stands empty (save an extra doll blanket, wig net, and the little booklets and doodads that Luts sent with him) beside my desk: My boy hasn't been in that dark, stuffy thing since he arrived a month and a half ago.

As for the question, "Do you display them in protective casing or are you relaxed about it?", I'd say I'm pretty relaxed. The most I've done in terms of protection, besides handling him carefully, is put a small pillow in the little gap between my bed and the wall so that Rikka doesn't fall off. He's a work of art, but I really don't think it's necessary to do something like lock him up in a protective glass case to just be looked at. I love Rikka to pieces, and while he's very beautiful, I believe he's meant to be held and loved and interacted with. On that note, in regards to the sub-post, Rikka's pretty equally loved and looked at. For example, there are times when I'm in my room and on the laptop when I'm so absorbed in what I'm doing that I don't mess with Rikka much. I just leave him on his pillow. Then, there are other times when I like to sit him down beside me or in my lap. And every so often, I like to bring him out of my room and downstairs with me (I guess for companionship or a change in scenery? I dunno, I'm wierd like that... :sweat ). He's not always by my side, but I often like him to be. Also, I'm not too worried about Rikka when I have him out around the house. My little sister is also into BJDs and is very responsible, my little brother and Mom ignore him for the most part and rarely (if ever) touch him, and Dad just makes makes silly comments about him and picks him up once in a blue moon. I trust my family to handle Rikka well.

Rikka's still very new, and he doesn't have very many things yet, but someday when I have plenty of time and money and a PayPal account or credit card, I would love to put together some little "living quarters" for Rikka and his things. Until then, I'm perfectly content with having him with me on the bed and out for everyone to see. :3nodding:

    14. Since I just moved back in my with my parents with five little dollies that I didn't have when I first moved out, my dad has recently just installed another shelf on my wall that we measured and fit just for them to sit on :) It's right above my desk and fits them all perfectly (at least until a few more join the group x3 ).

It's sort of funny since currently none of them are actually even sitting on it, but that was as I noticed that because the shelf is painted, if any of the boys are sitting there for too long then the paint sticks on their legs. Not fun. So I'm working on sewing a little blanket to drape over the shelf to protect them from that, and once that's finished back up they go. So until then they all sort of like hang out in which nook or cranny is free on my other two bookshelves, or Basil likes to hang out with me on my bed <3

    15. My boys and girls live on one half of my bed (and seem to get more room than I do!), they even have their own blanket to snuggle under. My two bigger dolls are there too, but they also have a table and chair set in my study that they sometimes sit at - occasionally they are joined by one of my cheeky tinies hiding in their coffee mugs.

    16. Oooh Ikea! :)

    17. I keep Zerrick in the little room I've crated for him on my desk. Currently he's sharing the space with a beta fish named Pencap. But he's got a bed, dresser, been bag chair, rug and recycling bin.

    18. I actually leave my poor boy on my bed (top bunk ftw) when i leave to go somewhere for a couple hours. But if i leave home for like more than two days i leave him with my bestfriend, Beth. He enjoys it over there. but i want to buy or make him a bed of his own though.

    19. I don't have my BJD yet but right now I'm in the middle of fixing up this dollhouse that I've had for a long time. I'm planning on setting it up next to my bed, and thats where my smaller BJDs will stay whenever I'm not photographing or carrying them around. :)

    20. I'm kind of paranoid about leaving my dolls out because of the 2 dogs, a cat, and my niece and nephew (both under 5) running around the house, so I got a dresser that's big enough to hold my dolls and their clothing. I used the zippered bags that my Claudia and Kanu came with to line the drawers and it works pretty well keeping them safe from the sun, animals, and kids until I want to bring them out.
