Which do you prefer plastic, acyrlic, silicone or glass eyes?

Sep 1, 2005

    1. I prefer glass eyes, I love the way the light hits them. :)

My second choice would be silicone because they sit against the eye wells perfectly! And they come in a lot colors too. :sweat

    2. Glass eyes! The many blue shades it can come in looks really vibrant!<3

2nd choice would be acrylic. The pupil and iris designs are nice.
Can't say anything about sillicone though.Haven't got one.[too expensive for a greenhorn like me.;_;]

    3. Though I have never seen any IRL but I think the glass eyes should look better but their price is so high.

    4. Glass are my favourite, most of my dolls have them.
I like Souldoll, they photograph so nicely.
And dollmore acrylics are amazing for how cheap they are. They glow!

    5. I'm partial to silicone, but some of them look like acrylics. Yuck. :ablah:

The only ones I haven't tried are a pair of urethanes I picked up for a good price on the Marketplace some time back; once I get my boy in, it's eye-swapping time.

I just wish I could find the right colors; we need more cat eyes in these parts!

    6. I like higher quality acrylics, silicone (I buy Eyeco but Masterpiece has more colors), and glass eyes that do not have a high dome. I don't like high dome eyes - I think some of them distort the pupil in photographs and they make it hard to position the eyes exactly where you want.

    7. it all depends. I like those eye which can follow me (doesn't matter which material)
but I'm sure I don't like high dome eyes. they are kinda strange to me.

    8. Oh my goodness I cant beilve I started this thread in 2005.

Well I myself have gone through some eyes . I dont care for plastic, I do like glass and sillicone.
I would like to try some other high end eyes like eye candies and there are some others out there but I am not sure if they are glass or urethane ...

    9. I love glass eyes, but due to the awesomeness of them I can't find the exact one I want. So then, I'm stuck and I can only find it in acrylic. Acrylic is nice, but it could be nicer, yah know like more glazed and such. Clearer. Like the glass.

    10. I think acrylic eyes look really cheap and make dolls look dead. D:

But my favorite are urethane and glass. I like glass because they are some what cheaper, and I've seen alot of nice glass eyes like Luts ones. Urethane is by far my favorite. While they ARE expensive, you get what you pay for. The have so much depth, and the range of colors is great. They don't collect dust like silicone, and still glow in pictures. :D

    11. Hey, I've seen some pretty nice acrylic eyes. I think the best come from Dollmore, but I have some from Pupapa and was suprised by how vibrant and expressive they look in my doll! I would get glass/urethane eyes for my dolls but I can't fathom spending so much on high quality ones (they would have to be absolutely guarenteed perfect for $60+, but they are handmade so this is impossible).

I recently got a pair of silicone eyes and I think they are quite decent. I figure that since some fake eyes for humans are made from silicone, they have the potential to look very realistic.

    12. I like glass and silicone eyes the best.

    13. Well, now i have acrylic, glass and urethane. Im not an expert so im not super sure about the difference i notice in glass and urethane, but i love my urethane everpurple eyes. I got yosd Chinatsu with her default acrylic eyes, and all i can say is nightmare... or horrible, something like that!

    14. I do prefer soft glass/silicone eyes- Yes, they do get dusty easily but I think they have a nice depth and a more realistic look^^

Having said that, I am still a hardcore Volks acrylic-eyes fan as well~~

    15. High-quality urethane (ED, Mystic, Gumdrops) are my favorites--for depth, vibrancy, and range of colors, they're fabulous. Right next to them are the few pairs of Silver and Hitomiya glass eyes that I have: they're not quite as consistent in size or color matching within pairs as the urethanes, but they make up for that with their unusual color combinations and the clarity of their irises.

It's heresy, I know, but I haven't been all that thrilled with the clarity or "life" (I can't think of another way to put it) of the Zouks that I've bought so far. I much prefer my Silvers and Mystics, though I'm willing to believe that the problem is more in my choices of colors than in all Zouks. I do wish I could see Antique Rose eyes in person--there's an unfulfilled dream!

    16. Hmm... I mslef would prefer glass eyes... they may be a bit more pricey, but they have a nice realistic touch. :D
Kinda like the Zoueki-mura eyes that appear to follow you at any angle. xD

    17. I am going to buy glass eyes for my coming doll >< I think that there is a real difference between glass eyes and the rest ;)

    18. I very much prefer glass or urethane. I think high-quality glass eyes photograph best, but it's difficult to get glass in some colors, and urethane photographs really well also. I don't like acrylic because they tend to end up looking like black pits unless the light is perfect, and silicone/soft glass is just too tricky for me to position! I usually get the eyes about where I want them and then adjust by nudging them after I've put in eye putty, but that doesn't work at all with silicone. They just wobble at you. XD

    19. No, you're right-- I think that Zoukeimura glass have that certain murky deep look to them-- so their "gaze" is very different from the sharper glance of, say, Soom silicone or Gumdrops urethane. It's a more faraway look, more subtle. Some people deliberately seek that murky look, and some prefer their dolls' eyecolors to 'pop' more.

I have several wonderful glass eyes whose color I adore, but whose gaze just isn't quite right for the look I want most of my dolls to have. I have to say, I think I'm most in love with the gaze that EA Gumdrops (urethane) have. Their colors manage to be deep and bright at the same time, so you don't have to shine a light directly into the doll's eyes to see the color... And besides, they have the best following-you-around-the-room 3D pupils. ^^

But I also love the pools of light & life that you get from the Soom softglass. They look like they're about to blink! The refraction from the double-dome cornea can sometimes make it hard to set the eyes straight, but when you get them right, *zowie*. And they have a good focused gaze.

    20. At this stage, I'm loving glass eyes. There's just a clarity about them that I like? Some acrylics are really good too (a few of my boys have them), and I'm definitely open to giving silicone a go at some stage - the ones I have now aren't the righ colour, so I could be biased as to why I don't like them as much! :)
