Which do you prefer plastic,acyrlic, silicone or glass eyes?

Sep 1, 2005

    1. Glass eyes all the way. ^_^ I have totally shunned acrylics ^^;

    2. I have both the original glass eyes my boy came with, and some inexpensive acrylics from Junkyspot that he's currently wearing, and I have to say I prefer the acrylics. The glass reflects light beautifully, there's just something really nice about the glass eye, but I prefer the color variation and detail in the iris of the acrylic eyes. It's the artistic detail in the iris that's important to me, I think, more than the depth or reflection, not that the acrylics are without either. Plus, being inexpensive, it's easier to try different colors with $6-7 acrylics than if you exclusively get $25+ glass. :)

    3. High quality glass or urethane. I prefer glass because it's harder (I'm clumsy so I've gotten a scratch on my urethane ones ;_; ), but I like the range and quality of urethane. I don't like silicone or acrylics.

    4. Oh, wow . . . don't be afraid of urethanes on that account, honest! In my experience, they're just as durable as the glass eyes I have, and I'm so klutzy that I drop eyes ALL the time. I store my urethane eyes the same way as I store glass eyes, making sure the eyes don't rub against each other, but otherwise I don't take any special precautions. And there isn't a scratch or chip on any eye I own.

      I do try not to let the dog get hold of them, though . . . ;)

    5. That's exactly what happens with Oliver's eyes! :XD:
      If I look at him from the front (I hope it's well written, sorry for my english :sweat), well, he stares straight at me, but if I look at him from his right side (like in my signature), he can look at me too. XD
      I love these eyes, they are so brilliant, deep and so alive! And they look different, depending on the light: they can be sort of blue-grey and then look very "sapphire" blue.

      Plus, I love the iris details
      So, about the question, glass eyes are really beautiful, but I love the details of some acrylics (and obviously, the price XD)

      (Oliver's eyes are Eyeco polyglass water sapphire)

    6. I tend to just go with whatever pair of eyes is in the right color and wont break my wallet. :doh Then again, I've only ever owned acrylics, but I really want to try a pair of glass eyes- they're just never in the right color for what I'm looking for.

    7. Glass! I love the way they look. Deej's eyes totally make him himself, they have a glow that totally brings out his personality.

    8. I love high-quality glass eyes, and have recently found a love for urethane too. I have some silicone, which I have at this point just because they're temps until I can get some decent glass or urethane alternatives ^^;

      I hate the dead look acrylics give - they shine in the wrong places and the white looks very plastic and cheap >.o;

      I have some souldoll acrylics too, which are better, but still only temps until I can get a urethane pair.

    9. Glass eyes are beautiful. They have such a depth to them...that they draw you in. If they are handmade they have the appearance of jewels.

    10. acrylic are not bad, but they're... acrylic=)
      high quality eyes are beautiful, but however I prefer silicone. it looks lively by any lightning^^

    11. I don't think I posted in this thread before, anyway...

      For me it depends on the eye and the individual doll. I have acrylics that I adore--Masterpiece and Souldoll are my faves and have great detail and color. I've also had acrylics that I don't particularly like. I wasn't as fond of glass for awhile and wanted more detail than they tended to have. However, now I've found some brands of glass eyes that I really like too. Soft glass eyes are also nice. My Anna head's right eye never wanted to sit quite right, but the soft glass eyes just squash right in and stay where they're supposed to be. i guess what my wishy washy post is saying is that you can find good eyes among the various different materials.

      The frustrating part comes when I have a pretty pair of eyes, put them in the doll and they just aren't quite right. They might be fine for a different doll, but not the one they were intended for : P

    12. Glass eyes ftw. I find them to be so much better looking, and they Just look right.
      My tiny has acrylic, but those are ok.
      Acrylic and silicone does not like gummy eraser putty. >.<

    13. Glass~!

      Bobhead has a pair of acrylics that have been in there since I bought him off Anrui. They're very..."flat" looking, up close. I agree that when you look at them in photos or from further away it doesn't make a HUGE difference, but I've found that I can usually tell which is which up close, and so far my preference is for glass.

      I think acrylics and the like are good if you change eyes a lot, though, or don't know what color you're going to settle with at first. And they also have more interesting combinations. Personally, though, all my characters have very "normal" looking eyes -no cats eyes or red pupils or the like- so I'm alright with the single, more standard colors of glass.

    14. glass eyes are shine, I like the alive eyes~~

    15. I admit that glass eyes are a beautiful quality, but they always are so expensive... I prefer Acrylic, they have a nice quality to them and they can be fairly cheap :)

    16. Glass all the way! I always replace any other eye type right away.

    17. I think glass eyes look the most alive, but I've seen some pretty realistic (and cheaper) Acrylic eyes. If I could get away with it though, I'd stick with mostly glass eyes.

    18. I like to stick to glass eyes... you can get them even cheaper then acrylic if you know where to look, and they just have a much more "real" feeling to them.

    19. I've had glass, silicone and acrylic eyes and have to say that the glass are my favorite so far in terms of quality. But I'm finding that I'm having a hard time finding the right colours in glass, but have noticed that urethane seems to have the range of colour I'm looking for.

      So I've dropped $200+ on 4 pairs of ED urethane eyes for my girls. I find it funny that people seem to find it difficult to spend money on high quality eyes after spending several hundred dollars on the doll itself. I find it distracting to see a beautiful doll with flat acrylic eyes :(

    20. Urethane for me! I love urethane eyes. Glass takes second-ranking for me, though some of the very high quality glass eye lines (Antique Rose, Zouks, etc) can rank above urethane ones, and some of the urethane eyes I've seen haven't been as nice as others. Even so, I prefer the urethane to any others.

      I HATE the silocone/squishy eyes. Won't use them. They gather too much dust, and tend to be hard to place well.
