Which do you prefer plastic, acyrlic, silicone or glass eyes?

Sep 1, 2005

    1. I really like the designs that sylicone eyes have. They're pretty creative. Other than crazy pasterns the irises tend have a more "human" look with their normal ones. Kyle has a pair of soom eyes and I love them.

Acrylic can work too. Narin has acrylic eyes. They're the first thing that people notice when they first see him.

It all depends on your doll's personality and what you're looking for.

    2. glass all the way!

personally i dont find acrylics to appealing b/c of the iris's printed dot-matrix.

    3. Right now I just have acrylics, and they are great, but I'm in love with glass eyes. They just glow even if they are just cheap ones. *swoon* That and they reflect light like a real eye. Their glossy and look liquid like, they are just full of win. ^^

    4. My own choose for eyes--
      Shiny, clear: glass
      Eye sight follow: some urethane
      Special iris: acrylic/silicon

My favorite is glass eyes because I love the icy feel to touch :D
I have easy access to buy varies glass eyes so color range is not a problem for me.

    5. Glass eyes have a wonderful warmth to them. But urethanes and silicones are nice for eyes that are partially closed (they help to bring more light into the eye than most glass eyes can.)

    6. I prefer glass eyes over acrylics because it's more realistic and they feel better. XD I can't say about urethane or silicone because I've never owned a pair though. All my bigger dolls use glass but then my tinies have acrylic.

    7. EA urethane Gumdrops all the way!! Their depth and clarity is just amazing. I've had glass eyes before and they just feel flat in comparison the EA Gumdrops. I also love silicone eyes due to their clarity. I'm not fond of acrylic eyes, I have yet to find a pair that I like.

    8. GLASS. I've used up more band-aids than for acylics, but definitely glass. Some acrylics aren't bad, but it's no substitute to that nice, cool quality feeling when you hold them in your hand. They're more detailed, usually, than acrylic. I can't say for silicone very well, except that they're really hard to put in and move around. They look nice though....but I would much rather glass. For those stranger colors (pale, albino, cat eyes etc.) silicone and some good quality acrylic would be fine.

    9. Because I'm not rich, and I change eye colors ALL THE TIME, I stick with acrylic so far...

    10. Well, I've only experienced glass eyes so far (Luts default), and I have to say i'm very impressed and I like them a lot (besides the fact that they're far too big and both are different sizes, silly Luts). I've noticed a lot of colour quality differences in the different types. It seems to me that the acrylics have a more solid colouring whereas glass and other materials more commonly have different colours in the iris.
Not saying this is universally true, just what I've seen hunting for new eyes.

    11. Glass eyes for sure!!!!

    12. I have different preferences for each of my dolls...

Iris needed rainbow eyes so I have Soom silicone/softglass eyes for her. Since she has large, round eyes they work well for her and I love the way they practically glow.

My Juri06 has a pair of inexpensive glass eyes I got at a local doll expo, with surprising depth and detail. They're perfect for a clear, direct gaze.

My modded dreamy-eyed girl has flat eyewells and I just couldn't find acrylics, glass, or urethane eyes that would fit. So she has a pair of Masterpiece soft glass that I just adore. They have surprising detail and depth for silicone.

I have a pair of urethane eyes on order for another doll who needs a distinct color and clarity in her eyes.

Each eye type has distinct advantages and disadvantages, so I think it depends on personal preference... and my preference is different for each doll. Overall though, I'd say I love a nice pair of urethanes the best. I love colors that pop and crystal-clear gazes with a little bit of detail. Glass gives the first two, but sometimes the solid color of the iris or the uniformity of the threading just doesn't work as well for me. I'd take a pair of Gumdrops over Zouks any day. ^_~

    13. I really prefer glass eyes but a lot of my kids have acrylics and I like how they work ^^ granted, if I could find the colors in glass (and could afford them) they'd have them in glass then ^^;;

    14. I would prefer glass eyes, over the others. My favorite types are the paperweight glass eyes, and they are always sold out when i try to buy them. Other than the expense, glass eyes do look more alive and if you want smaller pupils, like me, then go for GLASS.

    15. I really prefer the soft Soom eyes for my Doll Zone dolls. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of the glass eyes-- they are BEAUTIFUL! The best eyes I've ever had in a doll, however, came in my Leeke World Chouette-- I have no idea what they are, but they have a bit of a facet to them, giving them a bit of a glitter.

    16. oh yes the Soft soom eyes. Those are really nice also. I saw a CP El wearing soft green soom eyes here, but...i don't remember the name of the thread.

    17. I prefer Metallic eyes!
Because when you take photos they really glow!:kitty2

I did not lighten the eyes, just edited size and cropped image so you can see eyes better.

    18. Glass eyes.

It's important that my dollies look 'alive' in real life and I don't change the boys' eyes once their looks are settled. So they've been sticking to their Zoukeimura eyes. I wish Zouks have a wider range of colors though.

I've tried Hitomiya eyes and i love the color. If i ever have the spare cash i'd love to try out Silver and Antique Rose eyes ;)

Metallic eyes are very tempting too ;)

    19. My dolls either have glass or acrylic eyes so I can only compare them, but I must say my doll with glass eyes...his eyes look more vibrant, more alive, than my acrylic eyed dolls. Problem is though that not all eye colours are findable in glass eyes X.x I don't know how easily they'd place in a doll without eye pockets (my glass eyed doll having a Haruka head so he has eye pockets)
Plus some sites (Dollmore, I'm sorry) seem to want to charge cringeworthy shipping rates for glass eyes. Saw that shipping rate and dropped my doll a couple of days ago.

    20. At the moment, I will have to say glass. It seems to reflect light better, and gives a more vibrant and lively gaze. The colours are not too much of an issue for me, since I found that more and more colours for glass eyes are coming out. My favourite pair right now are a pair of old Custom House ones that are turquoise or blue depending on the angle you look at them from. :D

Soom eyes though, I don't really like. I've always found that the eyes reflect light in a very strange, un-natural way (in my opinion). I also don't like the double dome (because that's the cause of the light reflection).

Acrylics are my least favourite, because in comparison to glass I've always found them to be a bit flat-looking.
