Which do you prefer plastic, acyrlic, silicone or glass eyes?

Sep 1, 2005

    1. I find that I rather like the look of Acrylic eyes in my Shall, but in my AS Cain, only glass eyes seem to fit. In Kane(AS) the acrylics don't fill his eye enough and they look flat. In Nezi (DOT Shall) though glass eyes are too big, and the amount of light in them makes her look bug eyed. o.O; So, I'm split between acrylic and glass. I like both in different situations. ^_^

    2. The acrylic I've had were pretty bad. I liked silicone, they have a lot of cool stuff. But I prefer the look of glass eyes. They look deeper than acrylic and, in my opinion, more alive than silicone.

    3. I really like to use the acrylic eyes called Real Brand Real Eyes, also referred to as Secrist Eyes. They are incredibly lifelike and has such depth, and they are made of the same type material as contact lenses are made of and will not yellow over time. I use the same eyes when I make reborn dolls, to me there's just no other eyes that can compare to these.

    4. I like the lifelikeness of the paperweight glass eyes- they have more depth and luster than acrylic eyes. Plus their colours stays... I don't like plastic eyes at all, the quality is nowhere near that of glass eyes. Colour changes (blue to pink, brown to yellow etc), the plastic breaking... In MOST cases at least, I think glass eyes look better and are much more stable and endurable.

I only have one pair of silicone eyes, but I am impressed! Besides fitting better, they look very realistic. So, even though I like the metallic blue eyes, I still stick to glass and soft glass

    5. I like glass eyes. Like nearly everyone else I suppose. I didn't know I'd love it so much, but I do. I have previously switched between many pairs of acrylics, and even though some looked okei, the effect the glass eyes had was astounding. It was like the doll suddenly became that much more realistic. They shine and glow in an entierly different way. There's just more depth to them, simple as that.

I only have one pair of soft soom eyes though, and I haven't had the opportunity to try them out much, but I liked them too.

    6. I really love glass eyes, they are very photogenic and look so real. But I don't mind acrylic eyes, they are so much cheaper, so I can try more colors. :D

    7. I have a pair of Acrylic but I have yet to use them because I absolutely adore my Ro's blue glass eyes he came with. So I guess I prefer glass.

    8. glass because it gives a very lifelike reflection and silcone because they are all very unique.

    9. glass, because they are high quality and in my opinion, the eyes are the most important part.

    10. Ever since I recently got some Soom eyes, I really prefer them to glass eyes. If I get glass eyes, I prefer flat-backs because they are easier to put in with eye putty.

My favorite eyes, though, are Volks Zouks. They are really beautiful and vibrant, and photograph wonderfully!

    11. Nowdays I make my own acrylic eyes.. I like them because they're easy to make, whatever color/desing you could ever want and the price is a bonus too! But that doesn't mean I don't like glass eyes, I love them to bits with the 'real look' and texture they have. Three of my dolls have glass eyes, thought they're not classy ones, but cheap chinese ones.

I'm just too scared to handle silicone eyes.. I once had this dream of me biting my friends precious silicone eyes and I broke them.. anyways, no silicone eyes for me! :sweat

    12. well...i love glass eyes...

    13. it needs more atention and care to handle the silicon eyes, I chiped mine with my long nail :dohand since then i try my best to to look at silicon eyes so i wont fall in love with them again :(plus the color seems to fade and get lighter after a year from I start using it ( i live in a sunny place)
Glass for the win, they keep ther colors and easy to mentain. good luck buying eyes :clover

    14. I had metalic eyes before red and the whitish ones from Volks. They didnt look as nice as the ones above though. Or maybe they just seemed weird in my doll... I dont know..

    15. It kind of depends on the doll :)

I mostly use glass eyes in my dolls, because they seem to catch the light better than the other eyes I tried. My souldolls are an expcetion, in them I use the Souldoll acrylic eyes, these eyes looks amazing. I've had trouble with some acrylics turning out very dark in dolls but Souldolls' just bristle with life.

The only sort of eyes that I haven't tried so far are urethane eyes, so I've ordered a couple so that I can try this kind too. From what I seen on DoA urethanes look great in photos.

    16. got acrylic, glass and silicone and silicone are the best, i prefer soom

    17. At the moment I preffer glass, but I wouldnt be surprised if that changes, a while back I preffered silicone eyes. It just depends on the doll. But mostly high quality glass eyes are the ones I seem to stick with now.

    18. This thread is very helpful for me, since I don't have my doll yet, but I can see which type of eyes I'd like her to have once she gets here.

    19. Glass eyes, absolutely!
I also love urethane eyes, they're so very realistic!!

    20. I personally want glass eyes that follow you at whatever angle you look at the doll from. Those are awesome. Even the camera picks it up.
