Which do you prefer plastic, acyrlic, silicone or glass eyes?

Sep 1, 2005

    1. So far I've only had glass eyes... I really like the smooth look of glass eyes. (I also like to roll around the pairs that I'm not using, but that's beside the point)

I'm also planning on getting some urethanes in the near future, just to try out and see different things.

I'm not a big fan of silicone eyes though. They get dirty really quickly... And I don't really like having to take the eyes out often because I have issues putting them back in. (... putty doesn't stick to the resin. AT ALL)

    2. I LOVE glass eyes. They have such a living shine in them. All 4 got glass in their "true" color, and I got some others in other colors too. I love them so much I collect them. :D
Got a few acrylic ones too, since they look best when I make photo stories.

    3. Crap, double post. >.<

    4. All I've had for awhile now have been acrylic and silicone eyes, but I got some free glass eyes as a gift with a Dollmore order I recieved a couple weeks ago. I think I am officially converted to glass eyes now. :abow: Something about the way they look and reflect light, and the depth, they're so real. Too bad I didn't like the color they sent me on Blisdon, or he would have them in right now. :D

    5. I have two dolls with silicone eyes and two with acrylic eyes, and I like both types. I have a head with glass eyes and his are my least favourite - but I think that's because the colour is too dark for my taste, I like paler coloured eyes. I wouldn't mind trying some glass eyes in a colour I liked better.

    6. I love glass and urethane eyes. Urethanes are great for the amount of depth and its great to take photos in low lighting. Glass are great for direct lighting and experimental photos.

    7. I love glass eyes >< because they never wander in photos.
Before when i used to use acrylic for some reason my doll always looked
Like she was staring into space in the photos :|

    8. I'm after a pair of 14mm bright red eyes. However being a bit of a n00b I find the choices confusing. I have just received an Iplehouse Tania Trapeze and whilst her ED eyes are nice I find them a bit dull in low light and they lose their color.

Browsing around I have seen a few but am a little confused about the variety and pricing. Glass eyes seem to be the most expensive yet I can find a cheap pair of red 14mm eyes on Ebay out of Hong Kong.

I noticed the ED eyes Tania has tend to follow you around. However I find that when taking photos they can look a bit 'boss/cross eyed' from different angles.

I want a pair that look great in all conditions but won't cost the earth (Like the ED and Gumdrop eyes at $50-60 a pop!).

I wish I could see various sets in person so I can judge which are really just cheap tat and which really warrant the extra cost.

    9. I have a pair of glass eyes from ebay Seller Releaserain. They are really inexpensive at 19.99+ship. So far I am liking glass better. I just today got two pairs of glass from Dollmore they are $25/pair at their site but are beautiful and just perfect.
Here is a photo of my Releaserain eyes. They do have some small flaws in the white but you cannot see them when they are in the dolls head.

And here are a pair of Acrylic brown eyes from DIM

I don't have any photos of the Dollmore glass ones since I just got them today but the one purple pair have some gorgeous purple details, the second pair are a solid colbalt blue with no pupil.

    10. Though acrylic eyes are cheaper, you can still find some you might light and get great results, appearance wise. Or maybe you should switch to silicone eyes.

    11. Also you should know people in the gallery and else where photo shop eyes to be a lot brighter in there dolls head. I don't believe sellers do this... but if you comparison is in the gallery, be careful with that.

    12. Dollmore Glass eyes aren't very expensive and their Basic 14mm range has three different shades of red. Also thier Special range also has some red eyes. Glass eyes on there start at $21

    13. Thanks. The only type I have seen on Dollmore that seem to come close are these.

But they are more orangey than red. I want demon red but they need to be bright and glow. I guess I may have to shop around some more to find the right kind or pay extra for them. Much like wigs. Eyes are a very personal thing. They have to be 'just right'.

    14. I like enchanted ones most, but I settle with glass eyes for now. ^^; (Got enchanted for one of my girls, but they came with the doll) I have to get a good job before I can buy $80-$100 eyes. ^^;

But I recommend glass eyes. they may not always look REAL, but they're clear and bright! But be careful not to let them fall or something. They can crack.. That's the only negative thing about them..

    15. I am terrible about having a habit of buying eyes. >.< I know. They just need a single pair, but I find more that I really like. My doll has five pairs now, and I've only had him for four months.

I have experienced Glass and Acrylics. And I would never buy acrylics again after buying glass ones. They are beautiful. Acrylics are good, but only if you buy from a company that really knows how to do them. I just don't like the little dots you get from the print out paper when the cap is placed on top of it.

I don't plan to buy silicone eyes, but I could be wrong, I might find some I like. I don't see any now that I would prefer to buy however.

    16. I love Silicone eyes. They have a realistic look and if you take the time to properly photograph them they look gorgeous. I like glass, but it's just too plain for me- I prefer my eyes to have a little realism. I find glass to light up nicely, but all in all look dull.

Silicone all the way for me right now. :)
Maybe one day I'll like glass a little more.

    17. I like eyes to look realistic (says the girl with the boy who has yellow eyes...) when I buy eyes I look for the dark rings around the iris and the different shading, just like real eyes have. All of my dolls have acrylic eyes, I find they photograph well and I really like the way they look.

    18. I prefer acrylic because some of them are really nice! it sucks that they get foggy fast though.

    19. I have seen a pair of eyes I want from Eyeco but they do not do 14mm only 13mm and 15mm. Would either of these fit and look OK since the default pair are 14mm ED's? If so which one 13mm or 15mm?

    20. Acrylic and Glass.

I have acrylic eyes in my SD at the moment. There purple and they look really nice. I like how realistic they look. The only down fall that I have is that the ones she has in now are hard to put in... but thats just cause I need new eye putty.

Glass Eyes, are awesome too. I have Glass Eyes in my soulkid Aru. There pretty awesome and I find them fun. The only down fall is that I have to be careful with them >.>. Specially with me being a clutz and all. XD
