Which do you prefer plastic, acyrlic, silicone or glass eyes?

Sep 1, 2005

    1. I like Silicone~
I have some soom pink cat eyes, they seem to follow me around.
I don't know to much about photos and dolls eyes, but I don't really care to much about that.
I prefer playing with dolls, and poking at the silicone eye is allot more fun then poking at a hard glass or other eye.
The silicone eyes are squishy~ Feels more real.
      >w<

    2. After trying out a variety of acrylics, glass, silicone, resin, and urethane (wahaha my poor wallet!), I've come to prefer glass eyes. My problem with the acrylics I've experienced is that they have a plastic look to them, though they have a wide selection of colors. Silicone attracts tends to dust, and has a strange "sheen" that while is characteristic of realistic eyes, is something I don't like in my dolls. Urethane has a wonderful selection of colors and options, but I can't justify the price and wait times.

The winner is glass! They are durable, reflect light wonderfully, and has a decent color selection to boot! Glass is my definite favorite at this point.

    3. I've also tried out most of the eye types mentioned (glass, urethane, acrylics, silicone), and my preference is with glass and urethane eyes. They photograph beautifully (as well as looks good in dolls IRL), and there's just this clarity about them that I love.

    4. From what I've seen *and what wouldn't kill my wallet* glass and acrylic are my two favorites. I'd go with glass first, but it depends on who makes the acrylics. I've seen some acrylic eyes that make glass eyes look like nothing special at all.

    5. I like silicone because I can actually get them in the colours that I need. And they glow really nice like.

    6. I use acyrilic, because glass are too fragile for me. xD
But most people say that glass stands out more, and it's brighter.

    7. I have a thing against glass eyes because there's a Japanese legend about glass eyes holding souls after a period of time or something. /: I prefer to stick to non-soul-holding things. D:

    8. I love silicone eyes! I've got pairs of each Soom, Masterpiece, and Eyeco an I really can't decide between them! My Masterpiece eyes do have a strange gold sheen to them which sort of bugs me, but they look so realistic besides that. I really don't mind how dusty the silicone eyes get, it's not that hard to clean them up before taking pictures.

I do have a pair of Volks Metallic acrylics that are awesome though, like someone else said, they are a very flat color, but they reflect light so vividly!

I've actually never tried glass eyes. I don't particularly care for the way glass eyes look, they don't tend to look very realistic. One day I might hunt down a pair I like though.

    9. I have both but must admit I prefer Masterpiece eyes.

    10. I'm an Enchanted Doll eyes fan, myself. Urethane all the way. Mystic eyes are beautiful as well. I have a pair of Zoukeimura eyes, but I'd gladly trade them for a pretty pair of Mystics or Milky Enchanted Doll eyes.

    11. I just got a new doll who came with silicone soom eyes. I just remembered how mcuh I hate silicone eyes!! Yes, they look pretty and have a good range of colours, but they don't like eye putty, they attract dust like a moth to a flame, they move every time you try putting them in because they squish about and move and they don't photograph as nicely as good quality glass eyes.

So I still say I am sticking to glass eyes. They may not look as realistic as acrylic or silicone eyes, but they are still prettier imo.

    12. I often use glass eyes, I think they can be really realistic but the Enchanted Doll I've recieved with my Tania (Iple) are wonderful

    13. Hi there all! I'm looking into getting a stunning pair of eyes but I'm not sure where to go. So I'm asking all of you: who makes the best pair of eyes?

    14. I guess it really depends on what you want? Special colours? Special looks? Good old regular plain colour eyes?

    15. I don't have a favorite company/person who makes eyes, but I love vibrant colors, so I love urethane eyes the best :3

    16. I'm with Izarra - I love the urethane eyes the best. Pricey, but I adore my gumdrops and mystics.

    17. Mystic Eyes, Ethereal Eye Candies, Gumdrops and Droprops. They're expensive, but they're lovely. I wish I had a pair.

Though, honestly, I've had more luck with random ones I've found that people can't remember where they bought them from. I have three pairs like that and love them all to death. My second Elf Mod El Fingon is the only one with company eyes and they're violet (pale blue) glass eyes from Luts. Luts eyes are very lovely too, I have four sets in green, violet, and two pairs of cobalts. One pair I'm selling, so if you're looking for blue, let me know.

    18. That depends on your budget. But when it comes to really stunning, I have seen people swear by these:
Mystic Eyes and Enchanted Doll (I think these might be sister companies, not sure)
      Droprops
Gumdrops (Eye Candies is the site name, I think)

And Zoukeimura, which come with Volks FCS but can be bought second-hand in the doll marketplace. I can attest these are fairly nice, but in person prefer the urethane eyes listed above.

    19. I've never used Urethane eyes, my dolls both wear Ginarolo's glass eyes. For some reason, I find glass doll eyes appealing.... maybe it's more "classic"? But I had a hard time finding glass eyes in colours outside of the normal eye colour range, and Ginarolo sells quite a few colours that are unusual to find in glass eyes, and the price isn't bad either.

Though I haven't seen them in person, if I were to ever splurge on a pair of doll eyes it would be Dollflowers. I think they make the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen (in photos anyway).

    20. Mystic Eyes look lovely, but my resin ones have to make do with acrylics from Dollmore and Souldoll. Souldoll are higher quality than Dollmore, but I had to go with Dollmore for Zeelzaroth's eyes and these eyes are lovely. They are a bright, vibrant yellow, pupilless just what I needed, and when I photograph them they give off a lovely glow.
