Which do you prefer plastic, acyrlic, silicone or glass eyes?

Sep 1, 2005

    1. For me, I hope to have a glass eyes for my beloved Sen but since I don't have any money now so I can buy him only acrylic .... But I think for cheap price you can also choose china glass eyes [Bought one yesterday]

    2. I like silicone eyes because you can get them in oddly chaped eyewells, and there are lots of really vibrant colours, but speaking as a pet owner it can be difficult to keep them from getting fuzzy when I'm changing eyes. xD I spend just as much time washing them as I do putting them back in a head!

I'm a big fan of glass eyes, though. You can get fairly inexpensive eyes that are good quality for the money (my favourite pair cost a whopping $8 xD), and you can get some pretty nice colours in them as well. They catch the light a lot more easily when you're taking photos, as well.

I've tried acrylics, but they always seem so dead-looking and flat to me.

I'd love to try a pair of urethane eyes one day - the colours are so awesome.

    3. for now I only had eyes for acrylic or glass, I do not know the eyes of silicone. I prefer glass eyes, they are realistic enough

    4. Glass are my favorites so far, I haven't owned a pair of silicone yet.

Acrylic are very good eyes for a new BJD owner. Some are actually quite nice, but I prefer glass for their clarity, depth, and they don't get as dirty or scratched looking as acrylics.

    5. Glass so far, but I have yet to try urethane or silicone. I would imagine silicone ones would have a lot of dust stick to them though (especially because I have cats), but I think I'd love them too because they fit into any eye shape.

I'm just sticking with glass for now, but I hope to try urethane some day. ^^

    6. I like both glass and silicone as both have the depth and clarity I prefer. I buy silicone however as it is more flexible and fits better into the eye cavities (or whatever you would call them ^^; ). I had acrylics for default, but they did not have the shine a human eye would usually have and I constantly had to tweak the photos to achieve a nicer result.
I want to try a pair of urethane eyes - the only thing that puts me off is that I'd have to wait 3-4 months for a pair, as if I were waiting for a Soom limited. I understand that this is the time required to make a quality item, and the result would be fabulous, but I prefer to get the look for the doll as soon as possible, and if I am already happy with what I have (and I absolutely am), then I don't see the need to get something different (:

    7. I really love solid glass eyes. They have a luminous quality to them that you can't get in most other eyes, however, Soom's silicone eyes have a really nice brilliance to them.

    8. I'm a fan of glass eyes and would really like to try siliicone eyes one day too - seeing so much rave about them. ^^. Recently I just got my purchase from Leeke - a pair of made in Germany hollow glass eyes. I haven't put them in my doll yet but I'm sure the light will catch differently in these hollows compared to sollids.

    9. A lot say glass for realism, but I like nice acrylics if I'm going realistic. They just look more real to me. Picture wise, its all about the light angles to get them lit up like a real persons eyes.

But, I do love glass. They can get some awesome shine in them, but to me it's not as realistic. I suppose it depends on the eyes though.

As for silicon, never had a pair, but I don't plan on buying them. I just don't like the idea of them. Seems like they'd be hard to move around if repositioning and it's difficult enough for me to get my dolls eyes in/changed/moved as it is, so not looking for more trouble!

In the end its up to you. Glass eyes are awesome for surreal or glowy eyes, I prefer acrylics (nice ones tho) for a more realistic look. Glass eyes probably stand out more in normal light than acrylics though.

    10. Glass, because they're just so shiny and so much brighter than acrylics, which are kind of dull to me... though in certain cases I agree that they can be more realistic looking. Haven't owned a pair of silicone ones yet, but I've heard the Soom ones are... squishy. Which is interesting...

    11. I haven't tried urethane, but I have tired Silicone, Glass, and Acrylic. Of those 3, I prefer glass. I like the feel and how easy they are to clean. They look beautiful and can bring out so much personality in a doll. ^_^ Silcone for me does get too dirty and acrylic just doesn't have the right look. Although, I will agree if you want something to look not human, acrylics work better in some cases.

    12. Glass takes the cake, but silicone - being squishy - can fit into odd eyewells better, also silicone comes in more realistic colors.

    13. im progressively changing all my doll's eyes in silicone eyes. they're so great! and with a small practice, they're very easy to fit.

    14. For me, I only had acrylics, glass and urethane eyes. If you ask me, after the mighty change from acrylics to urethane, I never looked back. I prefer urethane because they are more realistic to me and they have such deep colours.

    15. I think I prefer glass, allthough two of my girls have acrylics because of the stunning colors and patterns you couldn't get with glass >_>
I also have a silicone, from Luts, and love them, but they are quite fragile (tears and scratches etc) and they gather dust really fast D:

    16. Glass. I've had experience with all the others and glass is by far the keeper. I am biased however, I love glass in general, it's my favorite material for containers, decorative pieces, and everything in between. Glass is wonderous.

    17. I am madly in love with Souldoll's eyes. They are the only eyes I get for my dolls.

    18. I deff love acrylics!

    19. Glass, cause they catches light like crazy. I dont know about silicone though, since I never had 'em before[too expensive, lols, >w<]

    20. I am actually suprised at the quality that you can now get from acrylic , I love glass eyes and I want to get some urathane as well.
