Which do you prefer plastic, acyrlic, silicone or glass eyes?

Sep 1, 2005

    1. Definitely glass in my opinion. They look the most realistic!

    2. I used to think the Glib crystal acrylics one of my boys came with were the best eyes ever. They seem to follow you no matter what angle you're looking from. I still love them for that particular doll, but now I've seen how much nicer glass eyes generally are. Now I won't buy anything but glass. Although I haven't yet really given silicone or urethane a try....

    3. I prefer glass eyes, mostly because it's all I've used. I just find them easier and they look nicer in my opinion.

    4. I prefer silicone eyes. The really good ones are so real and lifelike they are a bit unnerving. The colors are true and they even look moist. I find many glass eyes to be starry. But in any case, the better quality eyes are worth the cost.

    5. I prefer glass eyes because they feel heavier, smoother, and overall feel like better quality. I didn't care for the plastic eyes, but do they reflect light well, but still I prefer glass eyes.

    6. out of those choices, glass all the way. once i was able to afford glass eyes i've never looked back ^^

    7. Glass eyes are lovely because they have a lot more depth to them than acrylic or silicon, but the silicon eyes tend to be much more realistic. I have a pair of eyeco fantasy silicon eyes and I LOVE them personally.

    8. I honestly like my glass eyes best (but the metallic acrylics are awesome, too!). The glass eyes have a very rich color and depth, which is especially important for pupilless eyes (my favorite kind of eyes). Glass eyes also usually have stems, which makes adjusting them in the doll's head a total breeze!:D

    9. I will buy & use any eyeball material under the sun! It totally depends on the individual pair of eyes to me. Some of my dolls wear $5 acrylics, others have $100 urethanes. My eyeball-bin is an orgy of different materials, sizes, colors, and patterns, because I treat eyeballs like accessories-- there is always something, by some maker or other, that matches this exact outfit perfectly.

For metallic eyes, I actually prefer acrylic, because they just shine the best... Masterpiece does wonderful metallized silicone eyes, too, but their quality can be spotty. I like Volks's acrylics, and the acrylic metallics by Nocturnia Oculisc are even brighter.

For realistic flecked tones, I like glass or silicone (Ginarolo, Soom, Eyeco, Masterpiece).

For extra deep gazes, urethane or glass (Gumdrops, Dollflower, Volks, Ginarolo).

For vivid crystalline pools of solid color, I like silicone or glass best (Soom, Volks, those random glass eyes you get on eBay).

For far-out freaky patterns/pupils, I like silicone (Soom, Masterpiece, Eyeco) or Dollmore's acrylics-- Dollmore makes some of the freakiest cheapest eyes anywhere! Soom also makes some of the wildest designs, and that water-drop effect their double domes have is extra wonderful.

With alla that said, I am a total Gumdrops whore. :aheartbea There is nothing like a Gumdrop! They're urethane & hard to order, but they are always worth the hassle. The 3-D ball pupil, mile-deep irises, vivid color... I wish I could wear them, a different color each workday.

    10. I have tried acrylic, silicone and glass eyes so far. But from these it's defenitely glass eyes which I'm attracted to. I think glass looks the most realistic and glows nice. I'd also like to try urethan eyes some day to see how they would fit to my dolls.

    11. So far I've only seen glass and acrlylic eyes
I'm not brave enough to start looking around if I don't have to :)
I guess Glass eyes look pretty cool o(^ - ^)b

    12. I highly prefer glass eyes, but when I don't find one suiting a doll, I tend to get a silicon eye.

    13. I prefer glass or urethane for most of my dolls because I simply like the depth.
However, silicone is still my first choice when it comes to those eye sockets where you just can't get eyes made of hard material to fit in right.

    14. I like realistic eyes on my human dolls, so my choice is Eyeco. They look very nice and fit perfectly. Simon wears premium eyes, other dolls wear more cheap regular silicone eyes, I didn't notice much difference in quality. It's all about the color - if color suits, I purchase the eyes.
My animals have the glass eyes though: I tried human-like eyes on the cat, and they looked horrible. And my mouse wears 6 mm, such a tiny eyes are hard to get.

    15. Glass eyes definitely, they look more realistic. The stems make positioning them easier.

    16. I used to like silicones and bought a number of pairs of Masterpiece eyes for my girls; but, over the years, they began to deteriorate. The black pupils began to leak into the iris, resulting in eyes that are completely unusable. Right now, I have silicone eyes that are almost 7 years old and ALL are in some stage of deterioration - some less, some more. One eye developed an tiny air bubble in the iris. I love the colors, variety and detail of silicones, but I will never buy them again because they just don't hold up well over time. I find it ironic that all of my cheap Artistique acrylics that are the same age as the silicones are in perfect condition - no color changes, no scratches, etc.

Over the years, I've really come to be fond of glass eyes. I started out not liking them due to lack of detailed iris patterns as compared to silicones, but they've grown on me and they definitely hold up well!

I do look forward to trying out urethanes, though - they look divine in pictures.

    17. Some dolls use Glass eyes because no color in any kind of eyes -_-

      In really, I prefer glass eyes :D :D :D

    18. Glass have more debth and have a more live look....the pupils actually give the illusion of moving around while you change positions....=J

    19. i only have glass and acrylics at the moment and i love the way glass eyes glow in the right light, but i don't mind overly much if my dolls are wearing acrylics. I also get a lot of compliments about how real looking my girl's eyes are...the funny thing i she's wearing the free acrylics Resinsoul gave me when i got her...unfortunately they're really high domed and are frustrating to position.

    20. I have some glass and some acrylic eyes in my dolls, and it really depends. I think the nicer glass eyes are probably best. My favorite eyes are a pair of Eyeco polyglass eyes that I got off of Ebay. However, some of the cheap acrylic eyes really aren't that bad, and when they're in the doll, sometimes I forget which ones are the acrylics until I really look at them. Really, the acrylic eyes I have are at least as good or better than the cheaper glass eyes (the ones that are completely lacking in detail). But anyway, it all depends on what look you're going for. I generally like more realistic looking eyes.
