Which larger boys do the best poses?

Jan 8, 2007

    1. My DZ Ying is the sturdiest boy I have. His arms and legs are double jointed, and in order to get him to sit I have to pop his knees out a little and bend them. But it locks his joints in place. He can carry other dolls and can stand and bow.

My worst posing doll is my Sha. He just falls over all the time. :/ Sueding and string tightening helped but he still is frustrating.

My CP boy is sueded with hot glue and stands and poses extremely well, even on carpet and my hound poses okay when his strings are tight but his belly pops a LOT. My Limho boy poses like a dream but has a tendancy to pop his middle joint and fling himself backwards.

    2. kittysun lent me her Dollstown 15 body (from her Hue) the other day for my bodyless School A head. The body is GORGEOUS. I'm sorely tempted to get one, instead of a long-legged SD13 body, but the DT body is a tad too muscular for my character. He is by far the most gorgeously sculpted body I've seen, with muscle details far more natural and lovely than say, Lati, CP, etc. His back sculpting is... you have to see it in person *__* His back posing is amazing too. He has a three piece torso with locking joints, so he can do anything from sit up straight to slouch like a Hound. It's just... wow. But like I said, the body's too muscular for my character, but if there was some kind of mix between Volks SD13 (LOCKING JOINTS, WHOO!) and DT's back sculpt/locking pieces, it'd be the perfect body.

    3. Our CP Kid Delfs posed like a dream. They were so fabulous. Needless to say... Santino isn't so great. Believe it or not though, sitting is what he's worst at, not standing.

    4. In terms of lying poses, I think Dolkot's Kiss are great, but it appears that they are extremely sucky since due to their floppy bodies. For standing poses, Yukinojo I find more ease to manipulate. But boy are they expensive. >_<;;

    5. I likes the SD16 and IpleHouse! I don't even have the newfangled 3-jointed IH body, Ilya is a long-legged v2; but he can SEEM to slump and curve and slouch in some of the most strikingly fluid poses. Plus he is well-balanced, light, can shift his weight onto one hip, and has rotating thighs.

The virtues of the fabulous SD16 have all been well-documented here already, of course. :drool Put the two of them together, and you can get some wonderful acrobatics.

I had to second Kuro's nomination of the Dollstown-15, too-- I just met one recently, and his musculature, flexibility, and balancing-ability blew me away! I'm definitely keeping that body on the Future list. ^^

    6. Is there an English Dollstown site? I found one but the text is all question marks. The body is really impressive! We really want to find out more about the size and cost -

    7. Here is the English Order Board for Dollstown. You can order the heads and bodies separately. A blank Mui cost us $820 including shipping.

    8. i have seen IpleHouse's boy before.....his pose very well~~~

    9. My DOD Lahoo is a great poser and will stand for days! I can't get over how well he stands. (And there is an added plus, he has a beautiful body!:love )

My CP Moon is gorgeous, but I can't get him to stand at all. I've restrung him and he still won't stand. (The curse of the kicky-legs!)

Oh, and no one has mentioned Dollmore. My Adam Amos is a great poser and will stand anywhere, anytime! I was so impressed by how well he posed, I bought a Dollmore boys body for my DIM R-Asiam head. He doesn't have as beautiful a body as Lahoo, but he has gorgeous large hands. (I have a thing for hands..:aheartbea )

    10. my Ellery (SD16 Yukinojo) poses very well, but for "Yoga poses" only.

i always hear praises about the posability of SD16 boys but unfortunately Ellery seems to have something wrong with his waist that makes it difficult even for him to sit straight.

despite all my "bad" experience, i'll still vote for Yukinojo as the best poser.

    11. I like Yukinojo pose

    12. A testament to the 62-cm Dollmore Youth Adam's sense of balance:

Miroslav once stayed standing up-- on the edge of a table, while wearing platform boots-- for the entire duration of a 4.2-point earthquake. :D

    13. I have to say - I was impressed by the DZ body. I was giving one a hot-glue sueding before shipping him off, and it was actually the first time I'd peered into his design. There were locking notches all over the place, including the knees and the torso parts. The double joints went deeply into the lower legs, too. There was a certain amount of noise from all the "locking-in", but the stability of the poses was worth it.

I never have liked the DZ hands and feet (what is with the demon-halfling toenails?), but it's a darn solid body, and pretty well made compared to a lot of the others!

    14. OK, I'm in the market for a boy/male body for my Yul Brynner Minimee head. I want something that has a good muscular sculpt, but also can pose well, if there is such a thing.

      So...whadda we got out there?

I'd deeply appreciate any & all photos of your guy, as stripped as possible, doing calisthenics, holding poses, or just lying around, with your honest assessments of what he can/can't do (the body, that is) as far as moving, positioning, posing, etc.

For example, I have one of the old Soul Doll bodies. Can't be bent to a lot of positions, doesn't really sit well, & has to be carefully positioned to stand, but won't stand except in one position with his weight carefully balanced between both legs, so trying to put him with his weight mainly on one is a no-go. He won't do it. Nor will he hold a pose well: he has to be wired or 'posted' with props in the joints like pegs in a lobsters' claw to hold a pose. Would not recommend to anybody wanting a good poser or even a good sitter/stander, even if it IS a rather nice, muscular sculpt.

      Many thanks!

    15. I had a 48cm DollZone body that was great for posing (not the size you want, I know) and I have heard good things about the DZ 1/3 size as well for standing, especially. AoD also gets good marks for standing and posing,(and large..um, endowments) again I have only had the MSD size, (I found I wasn't into MSD boys at all, so I don't have those bodies any more .)

If the Minimee head is a little large for 60 cm bodies you should go to a meet (if possible) and see if anyone has a 70 cm DZ Wing or Yuu so you can look at the sculpt (there are comparison pix someplace on DoA already, but I can't remember the thread title!). I find the DZ toes a bit homely, but they do stand awesomely. I've read that DoT tends to want to flop at the knees, and while the Domuya Flexi-bodies can sit any way you want, they are totally floptastic for standing. I call my Domuya Zen my Flexi-noodle. Still love him, though;-) The newer sculpt is quite pretty--check the MP threads for pix. I have the older version where he's a bit rectangular in the torso.

    16. i've seen many of dollies and played with many and for the love of everything holy, aod. it can do anything right out of the box. touch his toes while standing, one leg, crouch, you name it. it can do it.

    17. ^^ From what I see, AOD's boy and girls pull of amazing poses >3

    18. And dollie engineering just keeps getting better and better! I've currently got VERY high hopes for the new Dollshe rhythm body - but currently my best posing boys here are the amazing SD17 and the Dollstown 15boy body!!! Very different "looks" for both boys - the Volks is just a mastery of classic male physique and the kips system combined with the brill engineering make the doll a joy to work with. The Dollstown is more of a fantasy musculature but the posing is unbelievable!!!

    19. im gonna throw in another yay for the Domuya Flexi Perennial body. poses beautifully and ive never had trouble getting him to stand (probably his giant El head balancing him out XDD)....he need tightening tho. my boy is sooooo floppy. but thats not the bodies fault, its mine XD

i'll also agree about Dollmores Adam body. my Kara not only poses well, he stands wonderfully and looks more natural doing these things than any of my other boys....standing next to them he looks like a human among ...well, dolls.

also, my B&G type 2 body is fantastic, especially for a less expensive body. no sueding or wiring needed. Wyn does things the double jointed dolls can do, and he's just a single joint doll.

    20. fishcake - Buahaha, I agree with that definition of Zen... My boy won't stand at all!

I've tried the standard and flexi bodies with Zen, the standard would stand up but wasn't great for posing, he also fell FACE FIRST into something with no warning shortly after I got him. >< I'm still smarting about that one.

For anything but standing the Flexi body is stunning, you can get some very natural poses from it, but then I've not had much other experience with doll bodies.
