It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Why did you sell your doll?

Jun 3, 2007

    1. I have never sold a whole doll, but have occasionally sold a body or head, for the heads it is has been because they did not fit my family, with one exception, because of christmas ordering I ended up with three of the same gift head once, so at least one had to go (parent gift, partner gift, and a gift to myself....so Luts sent heads with each order O.O) and this was used to then purchase one of my dream heads. Other than that I have sold bodies because they just did not suit the doll personality, I have a habit of headswapping between companies to get the perfect doll, I even nearly sold my elf Yder once, before realising he was the right head, just the wrong body, he is now on a Ducan body and is perfect, I can't imagine him any other way, I also sold a large bust Elfdoll body once, not long after buying it, because while my girl was beautiful on it, it was simply too hippy for her character, who was supposed to be leggy, in fact I have 13 dolls right now, and only 4 are on the bodies they came on

    2. I had bought the doll because it was cheaper, but it was a lot more DIY than I wanted to do myself, you know? And I wanted a different resin family. Plus I lost interest in those dolls, but here are ones I DO want but still need money...etc, etc, etc.

So remember guys! Buy a doll you're willing to save and wait for, not one just because it's a deal. You end up regretting it. Just because it's in the DoA marketplace doesn't mean it's a deal. The fact is, if you can save up all the way to the end for them, that means you really do want them.

    3. oh wow... the last time I posted in this thread was so long ago D:
I'd only sold one doll lol

I have no idea how many I'm up to now. I've sold them for numerous reasons...
โ€ข I like them but not enough and need money for new dolls
โ€ข I hated them and looking at them upset me
โ€ข I never clicked with it
โ€ข it wasn't right for the character I bought it for
โ€ข I started freaking out over the number of dolls I owned
โ€ข It never got a character at all
โ€ข It was perfect for the character, but suddenly I realized I didn't want that character as a doll anymore
โ€ข new dolls showed up that were better for said character (this is the dangerous one. Once or twice it won't work out)

There might be more reasons...but that's what I came up with off the top of my head :)
I actually like selling. I feel like it's part of the hobby. I might feel differently if I had to sell, but so far it's not been a necessity. Unless you count buying other dolls a necessity...

    4. because most of my purchases were impulsive buy. I didn't know what to do with them (usually, before buying a doll I try to create a character for it. this way I have an idea on what kind of clothes, wig and eyes to buy for it) and because of all that, I couldn't bond with them....

    5. I haven't sold a full doll yet, only heads and a body (I guess that makes a full doll though XD)
Mostly, it was that I'd impulsively bought the head, and then realized that I didn't want it or couldn't bond with it, or, I liked it, but no character was forthcoming and I didn't think it fit in properly with my doll family. Now that I've gotten into modding though, I've started keeping the heads I no longer care that much for and modding the holy heck out of 'em instead...

The body was sold because I hated the cheap look to it, and the horrible joints and floppiness that never seemed to go away no matter how often I tightened the stringing. I also hated how it gave my poor girl a bobble head. And it was too short.

    6. I sold some floating heads because I couldn't invest in giving them separate bodies any time soon and they were just laying around. Also, one of them was an old version of a character and I had trouble getting a new one to 'stick'. So I rather sold them on ^^ The only full doll I sold was because I needed to money for something else, and she was simply the one that didn't get played with. If I were ever to sell more dolls it has to be because of tight financial situations or upgrades. I don't think I could just sell a doll because I'm tired of it - I'd feel guilty about all the time we spend together! xD

    7. With my first doll I just didn't full understand what type of collector I would be. I thought I would enjoy just looking at the pretty dolly and dressing her up. Not so much. Looking at the pretty doll got dull really fast and I got bored. If I hadn't met a certain collector who happened to drop her 70cm boy in my lap at a meet I might have been put off dolls for good. When I held that boy it clicked for me. I'm a fan of big dolls. So that was part of the problem, that little MSD girl just wasn't a good fit. But I also need to collect dolls that fit characters or I just plain don't connect with my dolls. The dolls themselves are pretty but won't hold my interest. The other dolls I have sold over time were mostly sold because they were either A)bought on impulse (I should never give in to the impulse to buy a limited doll, it doesn't work) or B) the doll arrived and didn't look like the character at all. The other one is that I don't bond with female dolls. The only exception to this is Amaryllis. She is a special little doll and my only well loved female character so my only female doll. I've tried other female dolls and they inevitably wind up sold.

    8. It is a simple but difficult questions. Everybody has the reasons. I only play VOLKS dolls, but they are so high price, so I need to sell dolls and then buy the ones I like.

    9. I found a doll that better suited the character, which made the doll i had seem uglier and uglier :c

    10. hi
i sold dolls because of diferent reasons
once i needed money for pay a surgery for my cat...and the cat comes before my dolls,so i sold them
the other reason was,i bonded not great and traded or dold the doll for a other one...and sometimes i see a doll that fit much better for the character i have in mind.....i also have not much money left at the end of the month so i need to sell dolls to buy other dolls ^^
i am also always seek the "perfect" doll for me....sadly,i have not found the doll till now
still looking for the perfect fit

do you have the perfect doll you would never sell?

    11. I have sold a head which was pre-planned, I couldn't get the body I wanted separately and it was destined for another head so out she went!

I also sole my Luo Strongman...I misjudged from the pictures just how brown the skintone was on him and though I loved the doll for his character he always looked like he'd spent too much time in a tanning bed. I was at the point where I was going to mod him and finally decided that I wasn't happy with him and I should sell him instead of potentially hurting his value with modding. BUT I now have a lighter skintoned Luo on order, so as far as I'm concerned he's coming back! :)

    12. These are my reasons for selling:
*Because they never fit into my group
*My tastes have changed somewhat over time
*I want fewer companies represented in my doll family (more visual unity)
*I needed to reshell a character.

When I first got into the hobby, I couldn't imagine being able to sell one of my dolls, but things change as time passes and I got to the point that I knew I really needed to make some changes in order for me to be fully happy with my doll family.

    13. I have sold a lot of dolls, and I've only owned dolls for 5 months!
I think I've sold a lot so far because I was still experimenting to see what I liked...
I sold a few because they didn't fit with my other dolls, I sold some because they had been impulse purchases that I decided weren't my style...
And most recently, I sold my beloved Volks Charlotte because I needed money, and she was the fastest way to get it.

    14. Oh I forgot to list that one! I've sold a couple for that reason too.

    15. I sold some of them because I want to reduce the doll family. I think there defiantly are struggles that the seller has to go over. If this is for her or his own good, I think it is totally fine.

    16. I've sold some due to outside financial issues. I've also sold them when I've felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of dolls, and when I lose interest in the steps I'd have to follow to "complete" them...and ultimately, some just don't feel right once I've had them here. That's the curse of being a "bright shiny object" sort of collector who falls in and out of love way too fast when something pretty catches the eye. :doh

    17. I sell because a doll is no longer appealing to me, I feel that I have too many who are unnecessary or no longer fits into the group. I also find it to be a good way of discovering what I do and don't like and also for 'culling' dolls I don't absolutely need to keep and also attaining monies to purchase dolls that would fit in better.

For example, I recently sold off all but two of my dolls. The two that stayed were my treasured first doll and my grail doll. I have also learned through selling that I just can't seem to keep girls. My only girl was sold during my 'cull' and I have an incoming girl who I'm still paying off (urgh) who I know will end up on the marketplace a soon as she arrives.
From now on, if I like a girl sculpt I know to make it a boy rather than attempt a female character!

    18. Right now, most of the time I sold or wanted to sell a doll is because of its height. I'm pretty picky on the height of my characters and all those that I sold because of this were too small! That is why I do not have many smaller dolls anymore xP

Other reasons are low funds when in crisis or just because I lost interest in it, which doens't happen often.

I am now at 7 complete dolls sold or being sold and a lot of bodies that I went through :B

EDIT: Or copy/pasta VampireAngel's list.... That pretty much sums up the why I do not like small dolls XD

    19. One of my first dolls was an OT doll. She just wasn't for me (a common reason for selling). I then used that money to buy my DOC hybrid, best decision as a doll owner, I love him to pieces. Sometimes you think you like a doll, but when you get it you actually don't. Size also is a big thing for me, I like bigger dolls.

    20. I never thought I'd sell a doll, but I've sold my first...

Because I hadn't bonded with him at all, and it got to the point that I actually dreaded taking him out to take pictures of him so I'd feel like he was loved. I was pining away for other dolls, and I didn't have time to devote to him... I'm sure that I will sell more dolls in the future, but I have to say that so far, I don't regret it. I think it's just part of the hobby, and sometimes... you just need to let things go.
