Why do people put up with dolls that can't sit up?

Jun 1, 2010

    1. Only one of my dolls can't sit well. My Soom Afi.
It's because of the way the hooves are shaped, they won't let the leg lay flat on the ground or bend at a 90 degree angle for sitting on the ground or table edge.
The doll was $500, so yeah it bothers me a little she can't sit...but HOOVES!

      It's a fair trade.

    2. Most of my little bugs sit up on their own. Even so, I sit them against the back of the bookshelf and no one falls down, and that's all I really ask. The ones who were completely impossible to even sit up moved on. I would like to re-string and work on the joints of some of my dolls, but I don't have a lot of time to teach myself those things right now. The one doll that really has the most issue is my Secretdoll Yomo, but I knew Yomos had sitting issues before I got her. She's the one who can get away with it; I love her too much to care.

    3. My tolerance for non-sitters has actually gone up over the years. I sold my 60cm Narin back in the day because instead of sitting up, he hurled himself backwards all the time. But my Unoss . . . nah, she can refuse to sit up all she pleases, maybe because I'm so thrilled to have one after five years of hunting.

    4. ..............because we love them and they put up with us when we are less than perfect

    5. I've had a few that were terrible to post, My Domuya Saisha and My Bobobie boy body. I Got the Domuya girl as my second doll, and after she arrived I tried everything to get her to do ANYTHING. I tightened her strings, I sueded her, I restrung her. By the end I HATED her and had to sell her. I couldn't deal with the way I couldn't get her to do anything.

And I'm selling a bobobie body for the same reason. I can't get it to do anything. It 's legs flip, they slide, he flops, aesthetically I don't like it.

But my Bernard, and other Dollshe body? NEVER had a problem. aside from the odd biting me. He stands beautifully, he sits and slouches like a little resin god. pop his tummy back into his hip joint and he's a slouchy wonderful thing. I often have his feet propped up too, sits no problem, no joint out of place.

My Supia girl can't sit too well, but I knew that going in, so it wasn't as big a deal for me.

    6. My BBB Apollo can't sit up. It's not a mechanics thing, though; the elastic isn't thick enough, so he needs to be propped up. It's a hassle because you can't fix his clothes without him leaning back and his torso coming out of his joint. It's fixable, though.

    7. Thanks God, all my dolls can sit.

    8. mine are all fine, except my DD's they have problems unless i really force them into position...which i hate doing, my luts is the best 'sitter' of the group, she just naturally folds perfectly into position, perhaps just a tiny bit overstrung

    9. You don't want to pay money for a doll who can't sit, but don't make the mistake to presume that every single person on this earth will make the same choice. I bought my Kamau knowing fully well that the EID superhero body doesn't pose well. He was just too beautiful to pass up. Different people have different priorities.

Kalani is able to sit unsupported though, just not with the tight jeans he's wearing. I'm not bothered by the fact all. My other dolls are able to sit in theory, but I'm a bad doll owner; they are all too floppy and I hate restringing. I buy my dolls because of how they look first and how they pose second.

    10. I have a Resinsoul Yao that can't sit properly, but it's because of her backwards-facing knees. I love her to death so I don't mind if she can't sit. My Tulip is the best sitter of the group - that extra little lip in her torso joint works wonders. I know Super Gems can't sit all that well, but I love their sculpting so I'll just suede the crap outta them when they arrive. :D

    11. I have a doll right now that's waiting for a head that can't sit, I actually want him to be a bit floppy as it makes him so hug-able!

    12. My SuperGem boy can sit up just fine, and he usually does, but it depends on what he's sitting on. His paws are so heavy that they tend to drag downward, which sends him in to the flop-backwards position. If his paws are against something (The ground, or from his usual perch on the couch arm, the seat of the couch) he sits up just fine. Legs straight in front of him he's fine depending on which pants he's wearing.

My Pipos Charlotte is my greatest stander/poser somehow. But sitting her up is a pain. The poor thing's head is a huge weight, and it likes to go backward! I've managed to balance this out with her tail. I can get her to sit up if I've wiggled her tail (which has a magnet superglued just above her butt) to help brace her. She usually ends up in this slightly sideways sit anyways, with one arm holding on to something or other.

    13. My oldskin Megu can sit with something behind her back propping her up. I don't particularly mind this though. I'm like Silk, I chose my dolls because of how they look. I do appreciate good posing (standing unaided for at least a minute is the target!) because it's far less frustrating in the long run, but I love my dolls the way they are :)

    14. Because I love their faces. :) Mine can sit unaided, they just don't like to. They're snuggle bunnies, so they tend to fall towards each other and lean on one another when I try to sit them up. Honestly, though, sitting ranks a little higher than laying down in my pose criteria. As long as they can stand and maintain limb positions I'm pretty happy.

    15. ...because I spent the money on this body and if I were to resell it, then I would lose the ~$60 shipping fee! So I will put up with the body so I can keep my foolish pride!!

I actually value standing higher than sitting though. If a doll can stand, they don't need to sit! So, at least my SD's body can stand. :)

    16. I have a few that can't sit...my Iplehouse Kamau, he's the most frustrating of all of them because I wish he could do something, but no. I am screwing up my courage to mod him, but he's Ebony and I'm afraid to sand too much off...Gonna have to do something though, I'm tired of him literally taking up a whole shelf because he has to lay down. :\

My Pukifee Ante can't sit either but it's a combination of his leggins and the top-heavy head due to giant resin bunny ears >.< He stands like a rock oddly, so I deal with it XD (plus I made him like that so it's my fault lol).

My ElfiNdoll pet bunny can't sit...he's not a great stander either, but he's a bunny and too cute so I don't really care. He lives in my other bunnies laps anyway so it doesn't matter much.

I have several who can't sit in their pants...a few pukis and my Angel Region Cien....but again it's the clothes not the dolls.

    17. My SOOM Aphan cannot sit when he wears tight jeans. I was pleasantly surprised how well he could pose and sit while wearing stretchy leggings. XD

    18. I have some Idealians that can't sit good. Funny thing that the rest of them can. But those that can't sit can stand, soo *shrugs*. Plus I have chairs XD... There is still a doll that can't sit though, but he and I will have a thorough strining session when I get to it. So I guess he might learn it sooner or later.

    19. Hmmm... I must not worry about sitting because I actually don't notice if my dolls can sit or not...!

I know I definitely buy for looks (the sculpt) more than for posing.

I also have doll furniture, so my dolls are mostly sitting around on those.

Way back when I was first getting dolls, I definitely wanted them to sit. My Type 1 Delfs seemed to be OK with sitting. That's the last time I really noticed. I think something very slouchy, due to loose strings, might bother me, but as long as they can pose decently in some way is good enough for me.

I have an EID Model guy--I haven't been annoyed at his posing, although as I said, I have chairs for him.

... There was someone who had a doll that was always in a fetal position and couldn't hold ANY other pose, even though people had tried re-stringing and hot-gluing, etc. Now THAT would bother me! *_*

    20. I'm pretty sure my RS Song's hip joint was engineered by a drunk monkey >_< he can't sit up with his legs out in front of them(just falls backwards), and when he sits on a ledge his knees push together and his feet flail as far away from each other as possible so it looks like a cartoon character that REALLY has to pee.
