1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Why do you go/want to go to meetups?

Jul 12, 2009

    1. I have never been to a meetup, but I want to. I am an all-around anti-social person, but I think it would be nice to meet people that also collect dolls, just so I can gush about my hobby with people that actually care! Another things is that I want to see other dolls in real life. In this hobby, everything we buy is imported from another country, unless we go to meets, how can we see what other BJDs look like and feel like in the real world?

    2. I've been once and I liked it because meeting people and discussing with the of the hobby and various others topics is fun. Well. that would be the main reason: meeting (for the first time or again) people, chatting and having a snack together!

    3. I've only been to one meet up since I'm new to the hobby and it was amazing! I had so much fun ouo. The main reason for me wanting to go and actually going was to get a good feel of the hobby, meet new people, and see some dolls in person. Plus I got to ask a lot of questions that I had and everyone at the meet was so nice and answered all of the questions I had :)

    4. Haven't been to a meetup yet, but I'd like to go to one. I just love discussing things with other people in the hobby and making in person connections with local people who have similar interests as me. Online is nice, but there's just something a little more when you're with others in person. I love the personal touch it can give.

    5. I like going to meet-ups to see dolls in person since sometimes photos don't show a doll as well.

I'm so bad at socializing at meet-ups though. x_x

    6. I wanted to go to meetups since I had no friends in the hobby. That is my biggest reason.

    7. I LOVE going to meetups! It's been my 'thing' since first getting into the hobby. I love seeing other people's dolls, different tastes, gushing/squeeing/discussing whatever's going on in each other's doll world, discussing DoA and companies and events... I guess socialising is a great part of it for me, but I also love the opportunity to buy stuff and get some great deals on dolls and accessories. In the past five years, there's actually only been two meets that I haven't gone to!

    8. I want to go to meetups just to meet other doll owners! I don't have any dolly friends so it'd be fun to go chat with others about their dolls!

    9. I like seeing what other people do with dolls.

      I also like social interaction.

    10. At first I'm shy and have no confident, since I don't have any other friends that have the same hobby, so I'm feel quite alone, but I'm glad I have my 2 senior are already in this hobby so I feel so happy^^~
I try to join this doll meet and having some experience seeing other dolls and ask some question with other owner their opinion, care, and advice...
It's such a fun experience, since all the doll owner are so nice and friendly :) plus all their dolls are so awesome ^^

    11. I'm new and have yet to attend a meetup but my reason's would be:

      - To meet and socialize with other doll owners
      - To learn first hand and pick up tips from seasoned collectors
      - To become inspired by what other people have done to their dolls
      - To be exposed to dolls I will probably never own but have the opportunity to see in person
      - For the fruit punch and cookies

    12. I want to go to a meetup to meet more people in the hobby that live in the area :)
But also, I want to expose myself to all kinds of BJDs and sizes to help me choose which ones I would rather have in the future! Maybe I'll change my mind about SD's when I hold one in person, or somesuch. Who knows!

I feel that going to a meetup would answer all my questions and concerns about the hobby!

    13. I would love to go to meet up's since there's not really any other doll owners in the area I live in. I know of one but when she said she had dolls she said and I quote: "I HAD one awhile ago." And she showed me her favorite companies like LUTS and Iplehouse....But that's about it. I don't get out to anime club often...Mainly cause I don't got a ride and I got really bad skin so I'm kind of nervous to go places as it is.

    14. I want to make friends that live by me and also see different sculpts and take photos.

    15. I just went to my first two meet ups (At DC's Katsucon), and they were really great. I can't wait to go to another.

I loved just looking at what other people have done with their dolls, and getting advice about doll stuff that I haven't learned yet. (I'm still kind of new to this.) It was great to share with people who actually can relate to my doll and who can respond to my speech. It's so frustrating to talk to my family and others who aren't into the hobby.

Also. PEOPLE WHO KNOW THAT MY BOY IS, IN FACT, OF THE MALE GENDER.

It was super inspiring, and because the other doll owners loved my doll (and I had this self-conscious thought that he wasn't as good as the other dolls). It was great to show him off and have people who just GET IT.

I'm definitely going to find myself another meet up because it made me feel so good, I got to learn from other doll owners, I get to show off my beloved Angelo, and it was just all-around a good experience and gave me mounds of motivation and inspiration.

I was scared at first, and that kept me from talking for a few minutes, but that didn't last long. I was relatively young compared to the other owners, but unlike most social situations I DIDN'T feel out of place. I felt like a real doll owner, and I suggest that even if you're scared, that you try at least one meet up.

I was so happy with my experience that I'm going to another as soon as I get the chance.

    16. I think I really like going to meet-ups because you get to share something you like doing/have in common with other people. There are some people that might need help or some that can really help you out in the hobby. The people generally like and accept the dolls that you have and I guess they make me feel not so alone in the world. Like there are real people that share this hobby with me. At meetups the people can appreciate your doll and the time you put into the doll far more than some other people might. I like it because I get new friends and it gives me an excuse to go out and hang out with people instead of being a hermit the whole time. Most times well for most of the Meets I've been to they're fun. Especially themed meets! Like St. Patricks day is coming up and the doll group I'm with is doing a St. Patricks day theme because our doll meet happens to fall on that day... (I won't be there unfortunately) but it's fun. Something to do!

    17. I've always wanted to go to meet ups, because I love seeing what other people do with there dolls! Espically dolls with custom face ups I can drool for hors over a custom face up.

    18. I'd love to meet other people in the hobby but I always worry that for some reason my doll will fall off a table or something and get damaged.

    19. I like...

      -Getting out of the house

-Hanging out with old friends and newbies alike

-Getting to spruce up my doll(s) to look their best & show off their newest look (with or without a costume theme to follow)

-Seeing & taking pictures of everyone's dolls

-Getting photos that juxtapose dolls we never usually get to see together

-Talking & learning about other people's dolls, some of which I may have been waiting to see IRL, some of which I may have never seen or heard of before

-Gossiping about customizations, shopping tips, event/release intel, etc.

-Talking to friends who I haven't seen for months & sharing what's been going on in our lives since the last meetup

-Munching out on unhealthy treats (somebody always brings a box of something poisonous & Japanese)

-Posting a thread in the DOA Meetups Gallery to share it afterwards, & seeing what different photos the other attendees got... It's always fun to see the same event from many different perspectives... And it's also fun for friends in other locations around the world to see what we've been up to here.

    20. I want to go to a meet because I'd like to know other people who collect dolls and to see some dolls in person that I otherwise wouldn't. I think it'd be great to talk doll stuff and have people actually know what I'm saying and not just look at me like I'm crazy hahaha!
