1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Why do you go/want to go to meetups?

Jul 12, 2009

    1. I have gone to doll meets for 2 years and every time was perfect! :XD:I really enjoyed spending time with people who have same hobby and interest. In a meet we exchanged news and experiences about doll, adopted, bought and traded doll's accessories, could see other dolls in person, etc...

    2. I like to look at the others' dolls, interesting outfits / mold variations, to see beautiful and creatively dressed and painted dolls. That's my main reason to go to meetups

    3. I think it would just be really interesting to meet other people in the hobby and talk to them (:
Looking at other dolls seems to be really really fun, but sadly, I've never been to a meetup before :(

    4. I would like to go to one to meet people who have the same interests and to see what the dolls look like as research in to making my decision as to what kind of doll I might like.

    5. I would love to go to doll meet to make friends that share similar hobbies. It's sometimes tough to talk to people that don't understand my hobbies. Having my hobbies being called weird or strange does tend to irritate me from time to time. I also feel that I will learn more about this hobby if I were to physically meet the people in it. I would also love to see other BJDs in person instead of just online in pictures.

    6. As many others have already said, I like to go to doll meets to, well, meet people! I really like making new friends, especially ones that have the same unique interests as I do.

I also really like seeing other people's dolls in person. I've seen a good variety of dolls at the meetups I've been to, and it's been really nice to experience them firsthand.

    7. I also like going to meets because it is always interesting to know the person behind the nick and their dolls!
I love the way I get to know and to hold new dolls in meets. It is a great way of knowing new companies or discovering that the sculpt you didn't like in the web can be amazing in real life!

    8. I go to meetups to meet people and see their dolls. BJD collectors tend to be really interesting, creative people. One of the most magical things to ever happen to me was going to a mini meet in San Francisco. Not only did I get to meet some familiar names from the forum, but a strange city was suddenly not entirely full of strangers. :)

    9. I like meetups, because I can meet people who are interested in same kind of hobby. I enjoy chatting about this hobby in general and getting to know new people. I love it when people share their ideas, tips and thoughts. I also like to see people's dolls that I have seen online. It is really exciting if I have been following some story for long time and then I actually see the dolls in reality.

    10. I really want to go to meets as I want to see the doll sizes and body shapes in real life :D. As quite a lot of dolls on my wishlist are bjd's I want to know that I will be fine with the size of them before ordering. Also, as I know no one personally that likes bjd's and my friends don't even know I like them, having like minded people to talk to about them will be awesome! :D

    11. I'd love to go to meets, I'd really love to see other peoples dolls and I'd really really love to meet people with an interest in this hobby, as I'm the only one I know, but I am not sure if there are any meets or interested people in my area( south east Queensland, Australia) if anybody knows of any can they please let me know.

    12. I'd probably go to meets after I move closer to the city. I don't really know anyone here except my sister who moved out here after she married. I'm no social butterfly but even I need to get out and interact with people face to face. Starting to feel like my social skills are taking a nosedive...
That aside, I'd just really like to get the chance to spend time with people who don't look at me funny cause I have a doll. I don't really have anyone nearby to talk to about them the way I can about my other hobbies...my sister is just as nerdy as I am when it comes to books/games/anime but dolls are where our opinions differ.

    13. I'd say my number one reason is to see things in person, both dolls and clothes/accessories. One of the most frustrating parts of this hobby for me is the lack of that first-hand, tactile experience.

At a doll expos, I really enjoy meeting vendors from companies both large and small. It's really cool to have a human connection with the companies that I buy products from.

And last but certainly not least, it is simply wonderful to be around like-minded people. Finding other people who are crazy about the same things I'm crazy about is just priceless. There is such a huge variety in the BJD world, and I love being one of the many small parts of that community.

    14. I want to go to meetups so bad!
But they're always for away, or on my work days.
It makes me really sad ):

I'd like to meet other people and gain some more experience.

    15. I want to go for both social and practical. Next year I'll be moving to Utah and I have no friends there. Made a promise to myself to get out more and try social stuff (I'm much less awkward online). It will be fun to just instantly know someone likes dolls and won't look at me weird for having a few and wanting more.
I think it would also help with inspiration. I constantly look up doll outfits or general clothing images for ideas before i break out the sewing kit.
For practical measures, I want to see if anyone has a doll I'm interested in. See how the size compares to my current doll. Make sure I really like the sculpt. Or maybe I'll find new dolls I never seen before and want them more. Just expand my understanding of this hobby I guess.

    16. I want to photograph my dolls with other people's dolls. Photography is my passion for dolls. So to be able to capture my dolls + other beautiful dolls, that will be lovely. I have been to a convention once and it was addictive.

    17. For me, personally, I like to see other people's dolls and chat with them about them. Sometimes it's a sculpt I admire but have no interest in owning; other times, it's one I'd love to get my hands on, and seeing it in person is what tips the scales for me. I also like to share my own, particularly the unusual ones (my DollPamm girl gets to go to a lot of conventions and meetups because of that), because it seems that there's other people who have the same idea as me--we want to see something that's not in our collection, that maybe we wouldn't normally be interested in, or are curious about, or just love the look of and want to see in person.

Plus it's nice to chat with people with a shared interest. :)

    18. Because nowhere else can I talk about dolls for three hours with people who 1-know what I'm talking about. And 2- are also interested in talking about dolls for three hours.

I also like to see other people's dolls and get inspired. It's a nice chance to see other molds and dolls in person.

    19. I've been going to meetups for five years now, and fully intend to continue. We have a really great local group, and although we are a very diverse group of individuals in just about every aspect, we're respectful of each other and each others' dolls. Even when a doll is not to someone's taste, I haven't heard anybody be rude about it.

I like going to meets to see sculpts I haven't owned, to sell/trade/buy locally without worrying about shipping or receiving items that aren't as described, to get tips on sewing/faceups/accessories/etc from others in person, to do photoshoots with other dolls, and to have other people to talk to about dolls. I've seen a lot of people in the hobby say their family and friends don't understand the hobby, and it does get lonely having no one to share your interests. Even when we might not have anything else in common, it's still cool to have people to gush about our new dolls, plans, projects and characters.

    20. Of course it's fun and interesting to meet fellow BJD hobbyists and share thoughts with them. And as many have mentioned seeing other dolls in person is very nice! I have been only in one small meetup in my city but I wish to attend on many others (as I'm quite new in this hobby). I don't have actually any friends who would be interested enough about BJDs and it's difficult to ask help or opinions from them as they aren't in this hobby...:sweat I still spam BJD things to them sometimes haha :XD: (I'm sorry...:shudder)
