1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Why do you need more than one?

Jul 13, 2009

    1. I guess none of us need even one...but my life's so much better with dolls.

    2. Because of a very lonely

    3. Being okay with just one or needing more than one really depends on what you like. In general, I don't think I'd have more than one of the same doll (even if I customized one), but I may get others because I really really like them. Sometimes, if I am writing a backstory in my head for a doll, maybe I'll even think of a role I want filled.

I do know some people who also like to get extras of a doll so they have one to play with and one to keep on display.

    4. It's always been about symmetry for me (maybe I'm secretly Death the Kid?). Even when growing up, I had to have a cookie or toy in each hand.

Given this quirk, I have to have equal numbers, genders and sizes. I had one SD boy? Now he has an SD girl to go with him. Three MSD boys means I should have three MSD girls although I haven't bought my third MSD girl yet. I'm oddly fine with one Puki, though. :)

    5. When I got my first bjd I think like a kid that he would be lonely so I bought him sisters and bro theirs. And do a family role playing.

    6. I just... like more than one doll, and I have the means (even if just barely) to have more than one, so... yeah. (Also I do think the doll would get kinda lonely by itself! Plus I like to pair up some of my dolls as couples or siblings.)

    7. I've always wanted a BJD boy but I don't think it's fair to ask him to be alone. I like having a pair or more. I like my dolls to have friends, family, a SO, whatever. I don't want my BJD boy or girl to be the only lonely resin BJD in a sea of vinyl and plastic dolls. That's why I just got two resin MSD sized bodies. So they would be a couple. If ever I could afford it I'd love to have an Iple Luo and Carina even if I had to buy them at different times. But likely I won't be able to and these two dolls, whatever they end up being will be my only resin BJD's. I just want them to be content, to have each other at least, and yes, that's me totally anthropomorphizing my dolls, but whatever, I make no apologies for that, lol...

    8. Part of the, er, "problem" for me is that there are so many kinds of BJDs. I mean, if you want only one, then you have to decide on a size (and there are so many!), a gender, a body type (single jointed? double jointed? breast type, muscle type...?), a style (stylised? realistic?) etc. As far as I am concerned, ALL the different kinds of BJDs have their own charms. I don't love just one size - I don't think I could choose between a tall SD, a small SD, a tall MSD, a small MSD or a Yo-SD (25 cm? 30 cm?). I also love the different body types and I could never stick to only one gender. Moreover, I love these dolls as dolls and am very curious about how different companies make their heads (faceplates or no?) and bodies (joints, stringing, posing capabilities...). That's quite apart from the fact that there are so many lovely, and/or sweet, and/or unusual sculpts out there. And sometimes I like to buy from certain artists because I want to support their work, or because just about anything they make strikes a chord with me.

...When I list all that, it kind of puts the size of my crew into perspective. I feel like they are now numerous in an almost scary way, but it could have been even worse, right? ;)

    9. My dolls are my characters... I had to get Skeech's girlfriend... but I want his sister and best friend... And then some other dolls make me think of other characters in his world and yeh... I just want more of my characters to cherish

    10. This is really hard to explain but I guess I just fall for dolls I see or OC's I make and search for a doll to fit it ;w; and I don't know but, yeah... Besides I always loved dolls because they have a strong meaning to me, I don't think one would be enough haha

    11. When I first descovered them a year or so ago the cost was such a big deal that i thought i'd only be able to get one ever. Now that i've gotten over the price and have plenty of character ideas and sculpts that i love the look of i need to spend more time thinking of why i shouldn't order more. Lol. I also really want a puki so i can take it with me easily anywhere ^^

    12. This sort of happened spontaneously. I also thought I'd get just one and love it till hell freezes over. But then I got another one, and another one for Christmas... Now I have eight, and need two more to round everything up nicely.
All of them are part of a story, so it's kind of logical to get all the main characters in BJD size :)

    13. I feel the same as most people. I want dolls for my characters. Even though I don't have much more than 1, I still have a big wishlist of dolls that I will get eventually. I like the fact that they give me something to work towards because I don't usually get them as gifts because my family isn't necessarily in a position to do that. And like most others, I love way more than just one. If I had to pick one doll to have for the rest of my life, I would explode.

    14. I love to make face-ups, searching for wigs and eyes, making clothes, and having more than one doll for me is mainly more of these things to do, in different styles and sizes, so more fun!
Also, If I'll have only one doll he/she will surely seems lonely to me...hence my fixation to buy dolls in couple, if I can.

    15. Impossible to tell stories with just one doll. Or rather, it's gonna be a boring story.

    16. As Sigune said:
I like following the way those artists choose to develop their sculpts. Also I'm discovering as I begin to make miniature clothes and shoes that I prefer the body shapes to present a challenge. That is probably why I've started off concentrating on 20cms dolls, which is a little crazy considering my present skill level!

    17. we could never have just one doll....NEVER :o
thats frustating....when i have money, all i want is to add another member to my dolls family! i have wishlist, it helps me focus on which dolls to buy next, but all the company just wont agree...they're always making new sculpts to add on my wishlist... evil company :sigh

but thats why i love this hobby so much too... :D

    18. Everyone needs a friend! If I only had one BJD it would be lonely. They need to travel at least in pairs and of course there are so many sizes and shapes, colors, animals, characters……the list goes on and on. Who can choose just one? Not I. I have a rotating collection of about 30-35 dolls. The more the merrier!

    19. Because there are so many characters that need shelling. XD

    20. Simple: because I want to and,if i can, I will.;)
