1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Why do you need more than one?

Jul 13, 2009

    1. I don't need more than one at all, and when I started, I wasn't planning to get more than one, either. But when I got him home, I decided I wanted to shell more of my characters, and things just sort of snowballed from there. Most of the dolls I've ordered have a character in mind at the time I order them; the rest generally end up with something fitting them sooner or later. With the Minis, it's been a nice chance to get several different companies/body types/etc, too... the Tinies have sort of largely piled onto one specific type, with just a couple from another. (I really did mean to try more companies for the Tinies like I've done for the Minis, but LittleFees are just too nice.)

    2. Because they come in all different shapes and size…...

    3. ...I was planning a couple when I got my Shiwoo special. ...then I grew to three with three floating heads. Swore I wouldn't get anything but bodies after that. Then Soom started their MD. ...I sold my soul to soom and my next four dolls came from them. Swore THAT was it. Then evil Luts came out with the Borycorn. ...I ended up putting him and two zuzus on layaway because I've ALWAYS wanted one of the little animal dolls. -cries- Then Soom reminded me of my contract for my soul and I caved again. Now I am about to cave once more to Luts for a Fox and a couple of 'Taurs. W-why? Why? Why? It's like an addiction! I love every one of my dolls so very much. My buying seems to switch hobbies though. Like the last two years when I worked for Gamestop I spend a lot on gaming and banned myself from doll sites. Then I was let go because they closed my store and I had more free time and started looking again. Hopefully with the start of another two jobs I'll be too busy to look at doll sites again and just focus on what I have.

    4. ...because they always bring their friends and families^^...

    5. Because their backstory keeps growing and generating new characters. And because there are far too many beautiful dolls out there.

    6. I think we all have wonderful worlds in our minds, with lots of characters in them. One doll can't be enough, you'd want to bring in the whole cast, if you find them.

    7. I've found myself almost posting on this thread several times but I was never quite satisfied with my response.

I survived 23 years of my life without BJDs, so simply put, I don't need any.

But once I had my first, it easily snowballed into more. My first doll is still my largest purchase to date and the most difficult to find.
Everything since then has seemed so much easier, it's hard to turn them down when they're right in front of you, while other dolls I only originally purchased for parts.

It's been almost exactly a year since my first BJD and I currently have more dolls than I'd like, I'm actually trying to down size and focus on perfecting the dolls I want to keep. Realistically speaking, once I've sold off the dolls I'm not attached to, I don't see myself owning more then 8 full-sized dolls in the future (I hope I don't look back at this post one day and laugh at my naivety). But I think I would rather spend my money on accessories and parts rather than more dolls.

    8. Because companies keep releasing pretty things and if I like them I'll buy them ;-; My bank account hates me for it but my room looks prettier with resin around every corner~

Beyond that, I have a character that each of the dolls I buy shells....oh the perks of being a writer/artist and needing a physical form for each muse -.-

    9. I have this urge to get/have everything in pairs, so only getting one was out of question right from the start, two was the absolute minimum :'D
Since I use my dolls as creative outlet, and to represent all the things I like, having only one would be too difficult actually; you can't have a beardy scarred dude and the big eyed pink girl in the same doll.
You also can't constantly re-dress, re-paint etc. a doll just because you want to quickly try something out.
With my current crew I have pretty much everything here that I like and can constantly try out new stuff :)

(not to mention that two years into collecting a friend of mine came up with a great story, I jumped in and suddenly had a huge cast of characters I had to shell... :sweat)

    10. I swore to myself that I only need 2 dolls, a male and female to compliment my OC stories in mind but when new dolls come out and they are SO pretty I start crying because I know I want them. Hopefully I won't snap any time soon! And hopefully stick to my guns with just the 2. (One at the moment, the female, male later on :D)

    11. I actually do need multiple dolls in order to do the projects I want - the photostories of my cosplayers. I have a core group that I have written stories about.
I could survive w/o a bunch of stuff - even I suppose books - not that I want to. Life w/o my KDramas, for instance (or before that the BBC mysteries I've watched forever, or Doctor Who & Star Trek) does not appeal to me. We only need food, clothing, shelter to survive but in order for our souls to flourish we need to feed them LOL & for me these dolls & the cosplay/photos I do w/them is a huge part of my creative outlet right now.

    12. Cause it's not worthy to change one doll's make up, wigs, clothes all the time.

    13. the reason i started getting dolls is because i thought they would be perfect for the characters i created so right off the bat i was planning to end up with at least thirty. then i began looking through them all on the various sites and there are so many gorgeous dolls out there, that there is no way i could only have just one!

    14. I just really love the idea of bringing my characters into physical form! It's the best part of the hobby in my opinion ^_^

    15. I thought that I would only have one human. I had kind figured I would get one MSD and then have assorted anthros and been done with it. I have just ordered my first human msd sized doll. (I have 3 anthros) I'm kinda thinking there is an SD that I might get in the far future that I love (souldoll rye). I really want them to learn to make different sized props and clothes for them. I want to learn to make wigs and other things. The different sizes help with proportions and well.. I've realized dolly's be addictive! Mostly though there are too many anthros/animal bjds I want in the future to count. I love them. I have a dollhouse for the smaller anthros I have. I never thought I'd EVER even think about getting an SD though. ha!

    16. When I bought my first doll I had planned for her to be my only BJD.
Since then though I've decided I wanted a smaller more travel friendly doll.

She's on her way but I found other sculpts from the same company that I absolutely love.

That aside I would love to take pictures involving more than one BJD in them.
I think it would be fun to have them interacting in the picture. :3

    17. Believe me, I have asked myself the same question all this year. But dolls! It's addictive and just want them ALL! ^^

    18. Because I am at heart a collector.

    19. Because there are many sculpts i love and they're so different from each other that i seriously can not choose between them. Only because of that, this is the only reason i have to have many... Or none of them at all, but that was never an option. :)

    20. -My boy "needed" friends and family.
      -and those pretty sculpts <3
      -I want a msd.
      -repeat the first two lines.
