1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Why do you need more than one?

Jul 13, 2009

    1. I don't NEED more than one. It's just - well, the dolls seem to think I must have more than one. Close to 20 now, actually. And more incoming. It's a lost case, really, and it wouldn't be a problem if my apartment wasn't so small. As it is, however, they've slowly started to take over the whole place. First, it was only a small wooden bench with my three big guys on the table. Then, there were three more big guys (well, two SD13 and one EID) on the couch. Now, there's another wone sitting on my desk because I can't fit him anywhere else. And we're talking SD17-size here. And that's still without counting the tinies that are sitting on my bookshelf ...

I definitely don't need any more dolls. That said, there's another one incoming in November or December - SD16, this time - and of course, as soon as LLT releases their Ludwig, he'll be mine! (And I really do wish someone would already buy that FCS F-31 currently on the Marketplace because I most definitely do NOT need another SD13 but he's beckoning to me, looking at me, whispering to me ...) :)

    2. I only have space in my heart for one favorite, yet I want more. I, want, MOAR! I'm a bad terrible person.... I guess, something in my mind forces me to look at the pretty pukifees and then I have my card in my hand "gotta catch them all?!?" :hamster:

    3. I really wish we could favorite posts. I'd hive five so many of you!

I'm not sure anyone sets out to get a menagerie. I too was a one-doll gal, until I saw a face that spoke to me again... and again ... and again. I went from one to now ... 7. Soon there will likely be 10 as I plan to order a tiny this week, another tiny in the near future, and an MSD to round out the bunch.

I'm starting to think it's the dolls who secretly whisper in our ears at night that there should be more added to the group :|

    4. I told myself that I don't need another doll but when I saw a doll I've been wanting for a while, I got the "I want him" look on my face. I showed him to my coworkers and they told me I should get him. I should really stop asking them if I should buy a doll. They always say, "go for it."

    5. I got one doll for cosplay related reasons and was pretty sure that he was all that I was going to get. However, now that I have him, I want another MSD and a 1/6 scale doll to go along with him... I suppose I want a little family for him.

It's not something I'll be able to do right away since I got him in October and will need to save up for another purchase. But, I definitely know that it's going to happen.

    6. At first I got one with the intention that she would be every character I wanted her to be; I planned to customize her on a whim all the time (this doll has had 5 face ups in 3 years, haha.) but after a while I realized that I wanted to have a character for her, and that sometimes I really liked how she looked and was hesitant to change it. I currently have 3 dolls, and each one is very different from the other because I like having different dolls with different character/personalities. Plus they can interact with one another that way too, for photos and display, which is also fun. Also Doll Chateau has stolen my soul, haha.

    7. Because... they're beautiful... and make me happy...? XD

    8. A simple question which I find majority of doll owners hard to answer it xD

Basically the biggest lie in the hobby is "Just one doll" and I'm good xD I'm sure everyone felt this way, owning finally a BJD and then you'll be spoiling him/her but then at the back of your mind you are starting to think your doll feels lonely and needs a companion with. A little sister/brother or an older brother/sister perhaps a best friend or a lover.

Blame your mind for being too creative thinking of stuffs and themes towards doll and giving the lifeless a loving life :)

    9. My mom always tells me to leave only one! doll, she will devote all their attention! And I can not, I talk with puppets on the mood, and it, like the dolls are very different. So many dolls and do not stay on for long (, but still lives at home is always at least 4 dolls.

    10. BJDs are like Pringles chips. Can't have just one. This hobby pulls you in and new sculpts draw you in every day! :)

    11. I've been thinking a lot about this topic and I'm glad to see that someone has started the conversation. I think there is something human in us (and something human in them) that tells us that being alone is unnatural. As airreyes said, we feel that our dolls, like any real person, need a companion of some kind: a family member, friend, lover, or otherwise. Maybe one doll could mean the world to you, but it seems that part of spoiling your doll is providing him/her with some good company!

    12. For me, I need more than one since all my dolls have different styles. Not one of my dolls have the same type of clothing or wig or whatnot, and I want to have different types of dolls to sew to and make up clothes for and style all differently. It would probably work with just one doll and constantly change style, outfit, wig, eyes, face up - but for me, it's simply because I've got too many ideas so one is not enough ;)

    13. Well, personally it was the same with me, i bought my Tiny fairy may, and thought i was done for, no more dolls she's the one, but 4 months in i got this feeling that i need more. I need more because i want to have cute dolls to take care of, make them clothes etc, be creative in a crafty way (im a painter aswell x.x) I want a doll because the feeling you get when you receive one is not the same as getting something else, you wait long time to get them. and have?.. so far i only have one, i'm saving up for the rest of the crew slowly to build up my story ^^

    14. Because I'm afraid he'd get lonely (i'm a worrywart type) since I'm so busy with homeworks and assigment, etc. and well, since I'm a yaoi lover, I always buy them in pairs, so they would have their own playmate while I'm busy working on my grade...

    15. I have 1 at the moment, but I'm planning to get another one because I like lots of sculpts, namely the Iplehouse ones (Chase, Claude, Felix etc) and also Soom. It's quite addictive to look at other sculpts and to think of the possibility of owning more than 1 BJD. It's weird I bought an IOS and Popodoll hybrid as my first doll because that probably cost more than an actual BJD doll from 1 company, but I kind of think he's a bit lonely so now I've bought an Iplehouse Aria on layaway :) I'm still waiting for her to come, sometime next year though *cries* She can be his girlfriend hehe.

    16. Ahh, I thought I only wanted one (I only NEED one). But I feel like she's going to get lonely all by herself. XD And I think it would be nice to buy one girl and one boy... Or maybe one girl and one boy from every company ;)

    17. For me, half the fun with BJDs is the character creation process - giving them a face-up, eyes, wig, clothes, personality, and story. For that, I like having a variety of dolls, rather than just one.

But honestly, the only real reason I ever said "just one" at the beginning was because they were super expensive, and I was still getting over the sticker shock. I told myself at the time that it was so I could pamper the one, but in hindsight, it was the money. And I still ended up buying a second within... oh, two months, I think? :sweat

    18. Because they are soo much cuter in pairs/multiples! And they seem lonely all by themselves

    19. I thought I would be satisfied with one doll and that lasted about 6 months. Then I started ordering about every six months. I would just research different dolls and find one I liked that wasn't too expensive and I would order it. I seem to find the money somehow. It's almost like magic how I am able to buy dolls. I'm a sucker for a events and in stock items from Mint on Card. The hobby feeds my desire to be creative since I make clothes and do faceups. I think its a combination addiction of wanting different dolls and the need to express my creativity. Also sometimes I think my dolls need a companion. Right now I have a single guy who is getting no where with the young girls in the family, sooo..... I'm on the look out for a new girl :dance

    20. I only strictly wanted one at first, because in th beginning his character was suppose to be a loner. But After developing his character, I created support characters that I would really like to turn to dolls. Like his foster brother, and guardian. Now I have 2 dolls on my wishlist :sweat #sorrynotsorry
