Why do you need more than one?

Jul 13, 2009

    1. Well I'm a collector so only one would be silly and a pretty sad collection. Plus My Yuki was getting lonely without his family so I just had to order his little baby and maybe his hubby later. <3 The more the merrier.

    2. Because there's so much variation! Sizes, genders, styles, expressions. My first doll was a female MSD, because I just loved her sculpt. My second doll was a male MSD, because I wanted at least one of each gender. My third doll was a tiny because I wanted a doll to take to college. I still don't plan on every having a full-blown "collection," but the plan to only have one went out the window pretty quickly when I realized just how wide and varied the world of BJDs is.

    3. This!! It's a hard life something, LOL!

    4. I think there are a few reasons I want more than just one.

      One is for the sculpts. There are so many beautiful sculpts out there that it would be waaaay hard to just pick one! ^_^;
I have a thing for surrounding myself with beauty, and BJDs is an excellent [albeit expensive] way to do that.

Two is the never-ending dress up game you could play with them. I think it's wired into most females to want to play dress up. It's just instinct- but it would get boring to see one girl in different outfits over and over. It's like having a one-model fashion show!

Three is the story. You could create so much interaction between your dolls, and make a marvelous story. I mean, I've only got 4 right now, and I've already made a story that I know I'll never forget. Maybe some day I'll get to share it with people, but it's not done yet. I still have to aquire Katya and Michael. :3

It all comes down to the person as far as why they would want more than one, but if you're happy with just one, then I'm really happy for you! :D

    5. One word: (Photo)stories!
I'm the kind of BJD person who likes to shell their (pre-existent) characters, so obviously I'll need more than one. Also, since my dolls are meant to represent OCs, they've got different styles according to their personalities, so there's more opportunity to play around with styles and clothes and things - the never-ending, self-inflicted occupational therapy for the chronically bored creative person. ^^
One doll is a nice pretty thing to have. 2+ dolls are the beginnings of their own little world to play with.

    6. I currently have one, but she's lonely. She wants her brother who is currently only in my head, and those two sibling playmates who are also in my head.
I've found sculpts and everything for them, now I'm just saving up.

So my primary reason is doll loneliness, and my second reason is because I have the characters for them. I can't help it, I keep making new characters, and only a tiny fraction of them have dolls imagined along with them.

    7. coz the doll will get lonely if he/she is alone =(

    8. Because I like more than one! ^-^ I guess that's the simplest reason. But I'd like to have a little family of pretty dollies too. I usually like to have more than one of pretty much anything I collect tho. Otherwise I'm not collecting. I just have one. lol

    9. Well if you want to get down to the real truth you don't even need one doll! But since the majority of people in this hobby are true collectors having just one seems rather silly and besides regardless of what your reasoning is collecting dolls and finding out about the latest and greatest and seeing people flourish creatively is some of the most fun I've ever had. So do you really need more than one doll, of course not. is it super amazingly fun to don research, order and create characters, Yes!!! :D

    10. I don't think the reason for having more is "because having just one is rather silly!" There are plenty of people in the hobby who just have one because they only want or can get one, for whatever reason. And some of those people are very talented. I wouldn't call them silly because they only have one doll.

    11. Sometimes I like the idea of only having one. One special doll to spoil and dress etc etc.
But they seem to have personalities and wants for inanimate objects. And those wants are other dolls to keep them company.
But there are just so many beautiful faces out there, it's almost impossible to only want one!

    12. I don't know the exact reason, but I think it's because I'll look at wigs or clothes for one that I have and I'll see a picture of another doll and I'll look up the sculpt then the company and then I fall in love with another and I simply must have her.

    13. Technically I don't need any BJDs, I just really like to have them. Initially I was just going to have Cesavier.. then he started to look lonely and I wanted a girl to dress up, hence Seraphine. Then when their characters became such a strong couple I thought 'well, ok, they'll probably have kids at some point'. But I didn't want to have to make the choice between tiny cute versions of Cesavier's outfits on a little boy doll or baby dresses on a girl. So I figured, what the hey, I'll add yo-SD twins to my wishlist. Then I got the idea of wanting a huge 70cm BJD, because I like heavy substancial things. So now I'm saving for Cesavier's huge big brother (I should state at this point that Cesavier is an adult. I really have no explanation for the scale inconsistancy between him and his brother. I just like different sized dolls).

I also got my mum a DikaDoll Bobby for mother's day as she'd been cooing over the baby BJDs. She quickly decided that Cesavier should be his Uncle. My mum doesn't know it yet but she has an MSD woman (again, another adult) coming for Christmas to be Bobby's mum and thus Cesavier's sister.

So ultimatley my mother and I's doll family will be just that - a family. I guess my main reason for wanting more than just one doll is so that my first and very loved BJD has others around him, and also partly because I want to explore different sizes and genders of BJDs.

    14. For me, I would want more then one doll because of the character aspect of them. I can't have a doll and not come up with a personality and story for them, and it's hard to build that up and not want the other characters in your story. Also, as some have said before me, just having one doll seems lonely for them. Spending so much time and energy can give an object like a doll life, and they do almost seem to come alive with their own wants.

    15. The most obvious reason is that I like more than one sculpt and company. There are so many diverse faces and bodies out there, it's hard to choose just one.
I like having the versatility that multiple dolls provide. Photos can become a lot more complex with multiple subjects. I also like being able to branch out and do different things creatively as far as the way I paint and dress my dolls. Each doll is their own character to me, so they kind of keep a certain look no matter what I do to them. If I was restricted to only one specific style it would get boring. In addition, for me at least, characters need stories or they seem like empty personalities. A story with only one character can only go so far.

    16. well for me, having only one doll for now im fine with. however i would like to give him some company so i'll probably save up for another doll. i like the variation of the sculpts and the different looks for each. e.g innocent, mature, sleepy. so in time i would like a more mature looking doll.

also, i need variation in clothes for my dolls. i am very picky and sometimes it saddens me that my doll cannot fit into something that is too big for him..

    17. wow thats really hard to put into words o.o'
I find the reason why i get more then one, is because i see a doll, then fall in love.
I think thats the main reason why 3 out of 4 of mine are pre-owned. I see them, fall in love, then decide to give them a forever home :3

    18. i think he would get lonely all by himself. i want him to have someone to cuddle with. and a few friends to have tea parties with :P

    19. Because... I want to? Haha, it's a bit hard to explain.
I guess if I had to pick one reason why, it's that don't have the patience to change their clothes and such so often. Having more than one allows me to have dolls with different looks, without having to change the same doll over and over again.

    20. Because its fun. When you were a kid did u only ever want one toy?
