Will you choose Chinese BJD company?

Jun 23, 2010

    1. I just received my Doll Chateau Kid Hugh, which is a Chinese company. He's beautiful. I love Doll Chateau's sculpts, they're so imaginative. :)

I think all my other dolls are from Korean companies... But that wasn't on purpose, I just happened to like the sculpts. Sculpt is the most important thing for me when choosing a doll, regardless of the company's country of origin.

    2. my third doll hanako is a angel fantasy i love her very much. I really don't care which company the doll came from, when I see a particular doll that I like a lot, then i get that doll

    3. Yes I would, if I fall in love with one of the doll.

    4. I chose Chinese company - Asleep Eidolon.
Because I'm fall in love with their dolls, especially Xun.

And I notice one strange thing - If I like some bjd - I found that it is chinese =))))

    5. i got my dollzone reaphael from dollzone XD
and i absolutly love him to pieces!!!!

so i think dollzone is my favorite ...
unless AS is a chinese company then AS goes first

    6. Sure, Why not? if the mold captures my eye I'll buy from any company. I buy dolls and don't even know where they come from until I see the huge box. All of them are from Korea though.

Speaking of which, is Volks the only Japanese BJD company?

I love Japan and would like to get one doll from there but I'm not a fan of Volks. T_T

    7. Most of my dolls were made in China, and I almost sort of prefer them. They're great quality, have really bang-up aesthetics/posability and usually you get more for your money. Most Chinese dealers/companies, at least, the ones I keep watch on, will usually throw in alot of free stuff, like a wig of your choice, sometimes eyes, and there's a few who'll send you clothes with your doll.

@yumi: I agree with you, I don't care for Volks dolls very much either. The only other company I can think of off hand that's Japanese is Obitsu, if they count.

    8. @ Yumi- Alice in Labyrinth is a Japanese company who sculpt very lovely heads imo^^ Alchemic Labo, Aoi-Tuki, Shinydoll...there a few other that I can't quite remember :/

How many of you will take dolls from Chinese BJD company?
My first doll was a Dollzone Megi :) I've had 2 Dollzone dolls and currently own 3 from Studio ANother Secret
Which Chinese BJD company you love most?Studio ANother Secret is my favorite :aheartbea I love their dolls and think they are beautiful and unique sculpts.
When you decide to take a doll, what's the point you care most?
lol my decision making is based on a emotional reaction mostly^^; If its love at first sight than I more likely to get it, but the style and face also matters alot when I decide on a doll.

    9. I only have one single doll who is NOT from a Chinese company. It just happened that way, I don't really look at the origin when I fall in love with a doll face. :)

    10. Country of origin has no influence on my doll-buying decisions. Clothing, wigs, eyes, and other small item purchases are a different matter, since I hate paying $20+ on shipping for an item that cost me $10-$15. But with dolls, they cost and arm and a leg to ship no matter where they're coming from, so that doesn't really factor in with those.

Alchemic Labo (Unoa) dolls are also made in Japan.

    11. @kideme, oooh I want an Obitsu! good to know where they're from <3 and I also agree with you, I bought a Dollzone body and I completely loved it! but I had to sell it because the skin color didn't match the head I had planned for it :[ another thing I noticed is that Chinese companies have very inexpensive dolls and they are so beautiful at the same time!!

@capella, I didn't know about Alice in Labyrinth, they have very unique sculpts :D thanks a lot!

@Kiyakotari, thanks! :3 unoas also have unique sculpts <3

    12. It seems a bit odd that you want to buy a doll from Japan just because you like the country.

    13. Well, I don't see nothing wrong with buying something you love from a place you love. I do like BJDs no matter where they come from but I want one from Japan too....people say I'm odd either way^^

    14. How many of you will take dolls from Chinese BJD company?
I'm planning for two Korean dolls at this moment, but all my other dolls are Chinese (including one incoming). It seems that most of the dolls I like are Chinese...

Which Chinese BJD company you love most?
I'm not sure! I used to think I would always, always stay with Dollzone, and I certainly do love them. Their quality is excellent and they strike me as correct and professional - but best of all: really creative and daring! For daring, I should also mention Doll Chateau. I don't have any of their dolls, but I admire their work intensely - so much that I'm trying hard to fit one of their sculpts into my storyline :p. For the most lovely, handsome faces I'm looking at La Légende de Temps, and I am a great fan of Granado and their sculptor Crocus Lee.

I guess the thing that sets (my favourite) Chinese companies apart from others is that they dare to be creative (e.g. with face molds that are not just pretty, with fantasy bodies that aren't run-of-the-mill etc.) and keep working to improve their dolls. I also appreciate that they take quality and service very seriously.

When you decide to take a doll, what's the point you care most?
The face is still the most important thing. The doll has to look like my character and/or express the character's personality. A fitting body and good engineering are a must! Last but certainly not least, I also care a great deal about quality and reliability. Bad service and unreasonable waiting times are dealbreakers for me.

I will be extra keen to buy from a company if I see that they keep experimenting and thinking out of the box. Companies and artists who do that, win my support (and my pennies).

    15. Well saying that you want one just because it comes from Japan, you seem to be missing the point in my opinion. Especially since you have already expressed that the BJDs you have seen you are not that found off. If you saw a doll you loved and liked the look of it, then fair enough. But that should happen regardless of the country it comes from.

You should go for the doll you like, rather then because you like the country the doll comes from.

    16. Country of origin does, in fact, have an influence on what dolls I buy. I personally would never buy a doll from a Chinese company. For that matter I'd never buy a doll from a French country either.

I stick strictly to Japanese or South Korean companies. Mostly out of aesthetic reasons, more than political. It's pretty easy to tell which country a sculpt is from, based solely on looks, and it just happens that what the Chinese tend to find aesthetically pleasing, I don't.

Karla-chan, everyone will buy a doll their own way, depending on what they like. If yumi~ wants a doll from Japan, simply because she likes Japan, then good for her. I dont find that odd in any way at all.

    17. I think it is silly personally, what is the point of buying a doll that you don't actually like, just because you think the country is cool? It is silly. If fact i do know one word for it, but i would see it as impolite to use it. It should about a doll you actually like the look off.

I think she is missing the point just as much as someone who buys a cheap BJD they may not like just so they can say they have a BJD.

    18. Well, I think what yumi~ is saying is that she'd like a doll from Japan, but because she doesn't like Volks' aesthetic, she's looking for other Japanese companies that may have a doll that she does like. It seems like she does, indeed, want to buy a doll that she will like, she just wants it to be from Japan.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with wanting to buy an object from a country that one admires or is interested in for whatever reasons. It's like a coin collector wanting a coin from Greece, because she is interested in Greece's history or culture. For dolls, it could be a similar idea. Actually, I'd love to have a BJD from each of the major BJD-producing countries, for adding diversity to my doll collection. So, I have been seeking a Chinese doll that I will like; I haven't found one yet, but I'm sure I will. Next on the list, would be getting a doll from a French artist. I enjoy the concept of having dolls from around the world. Is that silly?

    19. If she found a BJD from Japan that she happened to go, i really like that. Then yeah that is not silly at all because she likes the doll. But her statements so far have seemed like she wants a doll from Japan because she likes the country, not always the doll. There is nothing wrong with wanting to look at many other companies to try and find dolls you like, because i hear it is how a lot of people start the hobby.

Collecting a coin from a country you like is a totally different story and is not the best example you could give. Because you like coins, and you have an interest in the culture and history and a coin in a way expresses that, plus the the coin looks is going to be something a coin collector is going to find ugly. I could also list other reasons but it gets irreverent to the topic at hand.

Your way does seem a little strange but not as strange. Simply because you want the looks of your dolls to be different and you are going out and finding dolls you DO actually like the look off. It wouldn't be weird unless you bought one you didn't like just so you could have a doll from each. That is the main odd bit.

    20. How many of you will take dolls from Chinese BJD company?
I will. I definitely like the Dollzone Cosmos mold.

Which Chinese BJD company you love most?
I love Dollzone and HZdoll (heise's dolls are very pretty)

When you decide to take a doll, what's the point you care most?
The eye shape and whether I can see a personality in them or not.

I love Korean companies more, but I will buy from other countries if they have a mold that I really love. Like I said before, Dollzone's Cosmos is really beautiful and HZdolls Feng WuYa is beautiful too.
