1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Will you choose Chinese BJD company?

Jun 23, 2010

    1. I’ve been in this hobby for a long time and have continuously purchased roughly 3 dolls per year from the very beginning, so I’d say I have a rather sizable collection. And at this point, my crew happily consists of dolls from Korea, Japan and China, with multiple examples from each. I’ve never personally found any differences in quality, even from the early years, and I love my Dollzones and Doll Chateaus every bit as much as my Luts and Volks. In fact, two of my 3 recently ordered dolls are from Chinese companies (Gem of Doll and Myou.) It’s the individual artistry I’m looking for in a sculpt, something that inspires me, and I’ve found that Chinese artists are every bit as talented as those from anywhere else in the world.

    2. I believe all my dolls are from Chinese companies, but I didn't choose them because of the country. Whether a company is chinese, korean, japanese ect... is irrelevant.

The doll companies I love most are Resinsoul, Bobobie and 5 Star Doll. Those are where most of my dolls came from.

I choose the face sculpt first, and size is also important. I don't buy dolls which are too tall. They need to be similar in size to the dolls I already have.

    3. The chinese companies have some really cool looking fantasy ones! I don't have fantasy ones but im always tempted because of how detailed everything is. I can't really think of much Japanese companies with fantasy parts, and korean companies tend to have this aesthetic i like for other people but not for myself lol

    4. I seem to prefer Russian and Chinese doll artists/companies.

    5. I love Loongsoul's fullsets, and have bought two - but my all time favorite independent dollmaker is Julia Cross, aka La Légende de Temps, aka LLT. She is an amazing artist; her dolls are unique and simply stunning...and the ballerino body is a masterpiece!

    6. I think this thread's original question is a little out of date, now... wasn't the original stereotype that 'only Japanese and Korean dolls had quality', and there were fewer reputable Chinese makers in the early years of the hobby? I assume it took awhile for people to be less discriminatory toward Chinese dolls, then.

I think nowadays there is so much variety, and gorgeous dolls from every country.

    7. I have a lot of dolls from Chinese companies, to be honest I just tend to like the aesthetic better then some of the other companies. I love Dollzone, Doll Chateau, Ringdoll, Mystic Kids Myou Doll. I fhave a few dolls from these companies, because I like them so much! :dance

    8. Looking over my collection, I haven’t bought from many Chinese companies… but my favorite from those I have bought from is Doll Leaves. I feel their dolls are so underrated, especially for their great price!

    9. Why not? There are a lot of incredibly talented artists that are Chinese. And a of their dolls are reasonably priced.
I have a DC-DZ hybrid and she is so beautiful. Her face-up is really well done and her resin quality is actually neat.

    10. Bobobie is Chinese right? I used to have several of their sleepingelf/tinybear collabs and I thought they were lovely!!! The resin was light and smooth, the dolls posed easily and weren't kicky at all, and in general were quite sturdy considering how many adventures I took them on hahaha! I'm getting back into bjd after a decade away and I'm blown away by how many cool Chinese companies and molds are out there especially the fantasry ones. Used to be domadoll was the only place to get a centaur and now you can have a whole herd! As a Chinese Canadian myself I've grown up with a lot of negative stereotypes about things being "cheaply made" in china and I'm really glad to see all the recognition and highlighting of creative Chinese artists these days <3

    11. I own both Chinese and Korean dolls, and came to prefer Korean dolls over Chinese ones.
      Mainly because:
      1. Resin from Chinese companies seem to yellow slightly faster than Korean ones
      2. Resin from Chinese companies have this shine to it which I'm not a fan of

However, there are some perks when it comes to Chinese companies:
      1. Some off resin matching so you can easily match it to any head you want matched
      2. Some sculpts do amazingly good at posing

But then again this is coming for someone who only has 1 year of experience and ain't gonna bother looking at all the posts here on this thread, so feel free to correct me or take this feedback with 2 cents!

    12. I think Loongsoul quality is very good. I own 6 of their dolls so far. They are great posers. The resin does not chip easily.

    13. I’d like to chime in by saying that, if you’re into fashion dolls, there are many Chinese artists that offer beautiful dolls at more affordable prices than your typical Popovy sisters, Natalia Loseva’s, Tender Creation’s, etc.

Metis Dolls, Echotown, Tiger Sugar Dolls, Byears Dolls, MissMian, and quite a few more are definitely worth checking out :3nodding:

    14. The country of origin matter little to me in the dolls I purchase; I've got ones from all over the world.

I've got 2 myself, and they are great at posing, and the resin is good quality.

    15. I am one year only in the hobby . All of this time I kept buying only fairyland . Minifees , pukifee , feeple60 . And then boom I saw that face on my profile picture and I felt in love with everything . I could not believe that she could exist . It’s angellstudio Li shi shi head . I sold sooooo many heads of fairyland and I can sell everything I have to have more realistic heads as this . I got crush on her and I never had this before .

    16. I am a huge sucker for Maskcatdoll and Nakana workshop, both chinese companies. And it's got nothing to do with the country of origin, I just really love the sculpting.

The fact that labour price is also much lower in China also helps, because it lowers the price even though the same work and care must have gone into them. I would not have started this hobby if they were priced like, let's say, the Volks ones, since labor prices in Japan are much higher. So I guess it matters a bit to me, from an economic standpoint?

I don't really think there is that much difference between countries, it's more between differences between artists. Granted, I don't own nearly enough dolls to make any fair comparison. I do think that my Maskcat girls, both from China, pose better than my korean I.O.S. and my russian Argodoll (though granted, it's the special plus-size sculpt, so unfair comparison).

    17. The Voice is probably my favorite doll artist and she is from China. The care/quality put in the doll goes above and beyond. There are silicone pads in the arm joints for mobility. There are hook stoppers in arms and legs to make swapping hands/feet a breeze and the bodies came with seam lines sanded. Resin also feels a higher quality than my Soom and Luts dolls. I do have to say usually Korean artists make head sculpts I favor more as most of my dolls sculpts are Korean. However I even like my Loong Soul's 73 body over my ID75 Soom. Was pretty disappointed given the hype of Soom.

    18. I own an MSD boy from Dream Valley. I love him but he's hard to pose. I also have doll heads from Spiritdoll (I plan to buy a boy soon) and Impldoll. I still want to collect more dolls from different companies particularly Ringdoll (currently waiting), Telesthesia, and Loong Soul. So the majority, I prefer Chinese companies :)

When I was new to this hobby, I looked for an affordable price range and a doll that has an androgynous look. But now, the first thing I care about is the sculpt, the body type, and how well it poses.

One thing I love about Chinese companies is that most of their sculpts are still available for sale. So, even after a while, I still can purchase it.

    19. After one year of being in hobby and have only fairyland brand , some weeks ago I found that I am in love with Angellstudio . Looove them . They have so amazing sculpts . So realistic . I hope in one month my li shishi hard and yan head to be here

    20. My favorite and the company that got me into this hobby was Ringdoll.
Although I have only ever bought dolls from them, they are my favorite because their dolls are the only ones that fit my aesthetic.
The rest of the dolls from other companies are beautiful, but I don’t see myself spending a huge sum of money on them.
Ringdoll is the only one who I am willing to throw my wallet at for now.
The quality of the dolls is very good and the way they look is just gorgeous.
