1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Will you choose Chinese BJD company?

Jun 23, 2010

    1. I would totally continue buying dolls from chinese companies. The fact that they're Chinese doesn't mean the quality is bad. I own two Mirodoll dolls, and even though this company is known for being quite affordable, I still think the quality is good. They just yellow faster than other companies. But it doesn't mean that it's be the case of every other Chinese company.

The country they're from isn't a guaranty of quality.

    2. When I was a newbie in 2009 - not really. Chinese BJD makers were relatively new on the scene and their work was still quite rudimentary and less refined, compared to Japanese and Korean BJD makers who were either well established or actively innovating.

But now? I recently returned after being 10 years away from the hobby (I went on hiatus in 2013) and the hobby landscape has changed so much. I think Chinese BJD makers are doing now what South Korean BJD makers were doing in the late 00s/early 10s -- experimenting and pushing the boundaries of doll engineering and aesthetics. There's also a lot more competition in the Chinese BJD market so that pushes the Chinese to keep innovating. Not that Japanese and Korean dollmakers aren't innovating and still making excellent dolls, but I'd say they're the "establishment" now.

Currently I only have Korean-made dolls, and have owned Volks dolls in the past. I've ordered a full doll and a BJD body from 2 Chinese companies, and plan to order another doll from a small Chinese artisan when they reopen their preorders. I'm really eager to get my hands on them and compare them to my current crew, to see how much Chinese-made BJDs have developed over the years.

    3. As long as the quality is good and they carry a sculpt that matches a character I have in mind, I would buy from a Chinese BJD company. From my current collection, I have heads from Doll Family H and Angell Studio, as well as other parts from Dollzone.

    4. I don't own any Chinese dolls yet - my current 4 are a mix of Japanese and Korean - but I'm looking to add a big Loongsoul boy when I have the money.

For me, the most important thing is the reliability of the company and its customer service. As much as I might love a sculpt, it's no good pining over it the company has a poor reputation.

Next most important thing for me is the aesthetics and posing ability of the body. I read through a lot of threads here and watched body comparison videos before I decided I did want a Loongsoul doll.

So short answer is, no Chinese dolls yet, but hopefully by the end of the year!

    5. I think there are some really exciting independent artists in the Chinese scene who are doing beautiful work, and the more established companies are also really appealing. I have a Loongsoul doll ordered that I am really excited to get my hands on (soon, hopefully!), as well as a head from a small artist who I'll be buying a body for from DFA.

Like someone else said a bit higher up, they're really pushing what can be done in terms of aesthetics - there are so many different looks for artist dolls from China, and while some of them may not personally appeal to me as things I want to buy, I'm so glad that they exist and that there's diversity in what's being created. It's really exciting to watch.

    6. I’ve got an Angel Studio Faro.

Very cheap resin. Simple face up, but I do like him. He’s got a lot of personality…

    7. I was thinking about this yesterday… I started off in the hobby with Soom, Dollshe and Iplehouse dolls but over the past 3 or so years most of the newer dolls I have bought have been from Chinese companies like DikaDoll, Miracle Doll, Impldoll and Doll Family H.

To be honest DFH is probably my favorite doll company at the moment and their bodies have worked great for a lot of the hybrids I have made… as have DikaDoll!

    8. Gem of Doll and D.Lace because they produce the noble faced/outfit type of doll. I had a few from Gem that were lost in a fire that I'm trying to replace. But, it'd be 5 from Gem of Doll, 1 from Gem of Doll that's on layaway, and waiting on one from D.Lace to ship.
