Will you choose Chinese BJD company?

Jun 23, 2010

    1. The most important thing is that you like the doll you buy, so regardless which company it's from or where it's made is irrelevant.

    2. I always forget DollZone is China-based until someone mentions it >3>;
But yes, I'm planning on buying a TON of dolls from DollZone, a Chinese company ;D
      DZ is just plain amazing ;3;

    3. Like others, I buy based on what I like, not where the company is from. ^^ Currently my BJD's are only from Japan and Korea, though if the GO I'm in goes through then I will be getting a Spiritdoll body. And there are a lot of Chinese companies that really impress me, like Loongsoul for their beautiful faces and Impldoll for their amazing bodies. Angell Studio is probably my favorite Chinese company though -- I will likely order one of their 70cm boys eventually. <3

Admittedly, I do see more dolls with an esthetic that I just plain dislike coming from Chinese companies, but I think that is because there are more newer Chinese companies than there are Korean or Japanese ones.

    4. from what I understand high-low some people will only buy dolls from japanese or korean companies this person is just curious which of us will buy dolls from a chinese companies and which company ^^

    5. I've got a doll from Spiritdoll and I really love her. I'm quite impressed with the details of her sculpt.

I like a lot of Chinese companies, but it also depends on whether I find a sculpt that really grabs hold of me and never lets go. If I have a critique against a lot of Chinese companies, it's the rule that a lot of them (note: not all do this) have about adding 4% if paying by Paypal -- that one really discourages me from making any purchases and I find that I'd rather look for the item/doll somewhere else.

But it's really all down to the sculpt of the face, first and foremost. If a character jumps out as soon as I look at a doll, then it's time to start saving up, regardless of the country it's coming from.

    6. This is one gripe I have as well. When buying my first tiny, I didn't realize they had a 4% Paypal fee until I was halfway through checking out. I have also bought clothings from 2 other China-based companies and they both charged paypal fees as well; again, I only realize after I was going to make payment. On the other hand, I have bought dolls and clothing-only from a few Korean-based companies and there were no Paypal fees. I don't know if most Korean companies don't charge paypal fees at all OR they already included them in their pricing, but either way I'd actually prefer companies to include the fees upfront in their pricing so it is easier to compare and plan our purchase in advance without worrying about "unforseen" additional charges. Now whenever I see and like a doll from Chinese companies, I always email in to ask whether they charge extra paypal charges (of course, this also give me the opportunity to test out their customer service and response time :p) .

    7. I love my Chinese babies. I have an Angell-Studio hybrid and just got a LoongSoul Emily. The thing I loved the most was that neither doll had any seam lines. It's that sort of extra effort that really makes me love those companies. My other dolls, from more well-known (popular?) companies, Soom and Dream of Doll, all had seams. The seamless Angell-Studio body really impressed me because I'd ordered an odd custom skin tone. AS have such awesome customer service, too.

I'm already planning on buying a 70cm boy from one of these two companies.

    8. Actually I just ordered from a Chinese BJD company, 5stardoll. So far they are my favorite company.
When I'm looking for a doll I really care about her facial expressions, the eyes, and how the face-up is done. For this company though, I also love their clothes.:fangirl:

    9. 3 out of the 4 dolls I currently have are from Korea, and the other, my Spiritdoll is Chinese. I absolutely love him! His hands are gorgeous and veiny, and he came completely sanded without any charges for doing so. Resin-wise, he is just as smooth and lovely as my Dollstown-bodied girl, and is actually a little smoother than my Soom doll. He beats Angelheim by a huge amount, so i'm pretty much going by the 'you get what you pay for' rule, regardless of where the doll comes from. If SpD comes out with another sculpt I love as much as Acer I would buy from them again in a heartbeat :3

    10. Most of my dolls come from Korea, just because Luts was the company I discovered first and thus Fairyland.

But I recently purchased a B&G doll, a Nailo elf fullset, and I love him so much that I've just ordered a second doll from B&G, the gray skinned drow elf from their new "Old World" line.

I see absolutely no difference in quality of resin between my Luts dolls and my B&G doll. My Nailo is very sturdy (he stands a lot better than most of my Delfs), and I love that he came to me with seams completely sanded and MSCed to protect against yellowing. None of my other dolls came that way (except my Elfdoll).

I think what draws me to any of the dolls I buy are their sculpts. There are so many gorgeous sculpts out there, but some just have that special something. And if it possesses elf ears, that's an added bonus! I can rarely ever resist a pretty elf.

    11. I own a Dollzone, so obviously I would. I love the sculpts from Dollzone, Asleep Eidoleon, and Spirtdoll. >< They're all way past cute. There's also a few from B&G, I like too. So I'm with the camp that says, A) The Doll and B) Company reputation.

I have to agree with Dolly in that a lot of the new companies are Chinese. I think the newer companies haven't quite got their formula down, both in body construction and face mold. All 4 of the Chinese companies I mentioned have been around the block for a while, and all of them have had doll changes mold/body what not. Dollzone is probably one of the oldest Chinese companies, it's definitely showing it's age with the kind of dolls the company produces.

Having said that, there's also a different Aesthetic that a lot of the newer Chinese companies are going for, that's not bad, just different. And it's quite different from the look that the older companies do period. But I mean seriously, look at old school Volks, I honest think they're older Aesthetic is a little weird and way too made up looking less realistic... That's definitely changed over the years.

    12. I've got two full Dollzone boys, two full Bobobie boys and two that have DZ heads and Bbb bodys. :D I LOVE my boys and absolutely love Dollzone's sculpts. To me it really doesn't matter where they are from as long as you love both the head sculpt and body :)

    13. I actually bought bodies from chinese companies, and to be honest, I didn't like them very much. something about their aesthetic doesn't sit right with me. One of them being the lack of detail for one of the bodies and poor engineering of the joints for the other. Even head molds from such companies leave something to be desired, there's like a certain lack of detail or aesthetic appeal. Well, to me at least. Other people might think otherwise of course.

    14. I currently own a Dollzone Hid, an Impl Doll Pinky (Limited Edition version), and a Two-S Doll Mayi. The first resin doll I ever bought as an Angel Street Zazean, who was made of inferior Resin, feather light, and prone to "stress fractures". Because he was my first ever resin doll and from a Chinese company, I was frightened to get any other doll from a Chinese company.

But that fear soon left me when I bought a Dollzone Aimi. Her sculpt was amazing, and her jointing was great! She was not as heavy as a volks, but sturdy I soon bought an Impl Doll Pinky, and was blown away by how Impl Doll added a thigh like joint to the upper arm of this doll, giving her more mobility and posing than any other I have seen! I then bought my first ever fullset doll, a Dollzone Hid, and finally... I got a larger doll again from a Chinese company, getting over my fear that my Angel Street Zazean gave me completely. I got a Two-S doll Mayi. She weighs a lot, and has such a beautiful face. Though her feet are too small to hold her weight and allow her to stand, I am still in love with her.

Now, I will be the proud owner of a "Doll Family" A Line Zi Luo. He has a beautiful sculpt, and the new body jointing that Doll Family has just looks amazing! Though when I do buy Chinese dolls, now, I look for customer reviews here. I am paranoid of ending up with another doll like my Angel Street one... so I rely on what real customers have to say about their dolls from whatever company I am looking to buy from.

    15. I love my angel studio dolls. I got the two 26 cm Chinese new year dolls - boy and girl. The resin has a wonderful weight - they pose better than any of my other dolls. The customer service was wonderful - including sending pictures of their face ups for approval prior to shipping the dolls. The outfits were also beautifully constructed. They were the first dolls I ordered from a Chinese company and depending on sculpts available I would order again.

    16. if i find the doll pretty, YES.
but i rarely find molds i like in chinese company :/

    17. Both mine are from chinese companies :) Angel of Dream and Doll Family. I love them both too death. Not my fav companies, but they are alright.

    18. Right now I have two dolls from a Chinese company, Bobobie, and both my little sister's dolls are from China (Bobobie and Camilla Dynasty). My first doll was a Bobobie mini ordered directly from the company, and they are awesome to do business with; it would be hard to find a doll company with better customer service. And they've got some lovely sculpts, and nice super smooth resin (that comes with seams sanded!), so Bobobie is my favorite. Camilla Dynasty was also nice to work with, there were no problems ordering, and the doll is really cute (and came with an adorable kitty hat as a gift).

    19. I actually like Chinese companies the most (Dollzone, Ringdoll, Angel-Studi and resinsoul)
I already have a Dollzone doll and If I would buy a second doll, it would definitly be from Ringdoll (or perhaps Dollzone again).

When I buy a doll, it must have been a doll that made me say "that's the doll I'll never get tired of".

    20. I don´t really care about the origin of my dolls - in fact why should I?
Before I buy a new doll the only things that I ask myself are:
Is the company known for high quality standards and do they have a good customer service?
Do I like the sculpt enough?
Is the price worth the doll? ( As there is such a huge price difference between the doll-companies it is one of the crucial questions ^^)

My first doll was a Volks Tony. Then I paused and when I started getting into the BJD hobby again I bought two Dollzone dolls. I liked the sculpts, they had a great quality and the price was very good. ^^ But that was a while ago and I have tried a lot of different doll companies since.

So from what I have experienced with Dollzone I absolutely cannot agree with: Chinese dolls are only cheap because the companies use bad quality resin or copy the designs from other companies.
I find these opinions rather to be stereotypes and clichees that people repeat who never "had contact" with a chinese bjd or generalize falsely when they have heard of a doll-design copy-cat case linke to china.

Right now my favourite chinese company is Dollzone because they have these new fairytale-like girl dolls like Clovera and Violeta.^-^
