1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Will you give up to buy a doll because of others' bad compliments?

Sep 3, 2010

    1. Well honestly, if I had a very cartoon-y looking doll like Volks (just an example, there are many companies like Volks) I wouldn't be surprised if someone not in the hobby to find it weird looking. *I'm* in the hobby and while I'm expecting them to look the way they do, and even though most of the time, they're beautiful, they still look strangely alien with their big heads and big eyes. So really, strangers shouldn't really sway you away from a certain doll unless they mention something about the sculpt and then you realize it too and didn't like it. As for friends or family, well, I'd just tell them that not everyone is attracted to the same thing and that many people (like on DoA) like that particular sculpt. As for myself, well, xD if I can find someone who knows more about Deidara than I do, then their opinions matters to me more so long as they can provide source or proper reasoning as to why they think of it the way they do.

    2. I'm new to this part of the hobby, and I've seen a lot of comments from both sides I guess. I've met people who really don't care what company a doll is or how "popular" it is and think everyone should just collect whatever makes them happy. I've also run into some people who seem very focused on which dolls are "superior" and like to talk people out of certain purchases. I have to say as someone just starting my BJD venture, I'm really appreciative of those first type of people. Sure, maybe somewhere down the line I might look back at early purchases and think "goodness what was I thinking??" But I think I should be able to make those kind of discoveries myself. So no, no one is going to talk me out of getting a doll I want ;)

    3. Ha, ha, never! I like the bizarre dolls and am aware that others generally may/do not. That's their problem, not mine and I am not buying it for them.

    4. yes, unfortunately. my family thinks i'm crazy and i'm stupid to buy dolls when i can buy clothing or etc. my sister calls them creepy dolls and she always makes bad comments so.. i cant buy whatever i want anymore

    5. Ditto. Too much money to waste on junk such as weird joints, badly formulated resins, recasts, etc.

    6. A lot of us can relate. But take heart. They won't always be making choices for you.

    7. Never ever. Unless you're talking about constructive reviews to be used as learning tools, don't take pointless things to heart.

If I truly loved a doll I wouldn't give them up for anyone, or give up on ever getting them in the first place for that matter. Both of my boys are Kizdolls. There's a lot of bad things said about their craftsmanship, on top of what a nightmare it's become to deal with the company, but I knew I wanted them (at least one of my two) as my first doll.

If you love a doll and it's what you want, whether it's for style, sculpt, or anything else, if it's what you want, then go with how you feel. Don't ever let anybody judge you to the point where you're driven away from it. If it makes you happy, stick to it! It'll be worth it.

    8. i wouldn't give up just cause someone dissed them, if someone has a problem with a sculpt, its their problem, not mine...if there's truly a doll sculpt that i like but no one else likes, then i'll get it and tell them they don't have to meet the new doll...

    9. no, actually some of my friends think that this hobby is pretty cool so i never heard any negative stuffs from them.. umm well, aside from the bjd cost of course since they think this hobby is expensive lol.

    10. If its purely esthetic, no, i tend to fall in love with a doll so whatever people will say about the doll won't really change that. But saying that it always make me feel very happy when a friend loves my dollies too

    11. If someone said something bad about a doll I intended to purchase, I'd definitely do some research on what they were talking about to see if it was a legitimate issue with the dolls' sculpting. If so, I'd probably look into buying a hybrid. If a hybrid wasn't possible (as is usually the case with RS fantasy colors) then I'd buy the doll anyway. :3

    12. It depends on what kind of comment they gave. If it seemed like a legit bad review regarding sculpt problems or that the company had a history of damaged dolls and poor quality I might rethink and look for a different doll. If it was something petty like "Fuck no, look at that miscreant, it's hideous!" or "God not that company, i hate them, only noobs buy their shit!" I would look at them funnily and whip up my current favorite saying and apparently daily mantra "To each his own" and then buy the doll I wanted regardless.

    13. Lol, no. If *you* like it, why depend on another's opinions? Besides, if someone's rude enough to belittle your choices for one doll or another, they probably aren't worth the time/effort. :3

    14. I did once. By the time i realized i still want him, he was sold out. My mam told me he looked like drug taker.
He really looked very gloomy. I am optimist in real life, often smiling. I thought 'what shall i do with a doll that will be alwayas gloomy? Always, whatever i do with him. Whenever i look at him, he will be sad, ready to burst into tears.' When a doll is always smiling - its better, because it cheers you up. But when it is always crying... Still want the doll. I think if it is the destiny, i'll have him someday )))

    15. If the reason to reject the doll is because of some defect, like resin too thin and things breaking, resin flaws,,,if serious enough I would make myself wait for another doll. If just because of opinion, much less likely to be swayed in my decision. Recently I noticed though, that a friend who I admire their taste very much, made a negative comment about a certain companies dolls. It is a very popular, high priced doll company. The dolls are all very beautiful by standard ideas of beauty. I'd never had my heart set on any particular one of their dolls, but my level of admiration for them was changed I think by the comment. ~ But partly is just the process of my own trying to pick my top favorites, since I tend to love and want every one I see.

    16. No. Unless it's a question of a doll being honestly badly made, I won't likely change my mind. I have stayed away from dolls that I've seen reviewed that have serious QC issues even though I liked them, but overall no, I like what I like.

    17. Nope lol. My first dolll was an AOD Meng Li and before I bought her I came on here to ask about her. Some people didnt care for the sculpt, but I'd already fallen in love with it. I think I've seen maybe one other Meng Li on here and I'm ok with that. I like being different. So having a sculpt that not many people have or like is ok for me. I still have her and she's still awesome.

Now if someone said dont buy from a company because their resin is thin/toxic, has bad mechanics, or substandard customer service...well then I'd think about it. Otherwise, if I connect with the look of a doll and I have the money, the hell with everyone elses opinion lol

    18. Some girls thought it was a great idea to tell me that on top of I'd have to re-string an RS Mei I was saving up for at the time they said "Well for an extra ten dollars you could just get it on the Li or Rong body." as far as I know Sun doesn't charge extra to get a certain head on a certain body...Guess who never got a Mei?

This girl. I got a single jointed Song...And I've never been happier with a doll, Avalon's everything I dreamed of and more. He's my favorite.

    19. I think I will not give up, because I love, even if others think he is ugly is not good-looking, the purchaser is I, owner is me, everything is my personal preference.

    20. If their bad reviews have to do with resin quality, or yellowing, or thinness, or structural issues, I would definitely be influenced by their opinion. If hey just don't like the sculpt... everyone's entitled to their own opinions on doll sculpts.
