Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Will you sell your doll to me?

Jan 25, 2010

    1. I haven't had anyone offer to buy one of my dolls (yet) but I have had an older woman (dripping in diamonds) ask me, rapid-fire, about a hundred questions about the doll I was carrying, and where she could buy one and what the cost was. It was my Hound and when I told her what she'd need to pay for him, including eyes, wig, clothes, boots, etc., she looked at me like I'd barked at her or something - and then got all huffy and hostile and finally walked away. *shrug* Hey, she asked! People can be weird...

    2. I`ve only once had a little boy (4-5?) saying: can I have you`re doll? .... I was like: no....:|

Btw, that boy was going from table yo table in the mall asking for money...:doh..unrill they "cicked" him out.

    3. I'd have to tell them no because I love Mimi too much :P Also this is the only anthro sculpt that has really appealed to me and they don't make her anymore.

    4. I had a coworker obsessed with one of my boys. She pretty much demanded I bring him to work every day because he was good luck for her. As soon as he was set down by my computer she would snatch him up and effectively kidnap him for the rest of the day. It got to the point I stopped bringing him and paid the small price of listening to her whine about how she missed him.

After that she started making offers to buy him. I told her the name of the company, the sculpt of the doll and how much she could expect to pay for pretty much everything I had him dressed in up to and including the exact eyes and wig. She still wanted to buy mine off of me. As far as I know she never did look at the website either.

    5. I'm getting my first boy soon, and I can't wait to see what the normals here in Edmonds will do with him, he's a 70cm boy. ^.^

    6. A couple of times when I have brought my Aria to anime conventions that weren't really connected to the BJD community people have asked to buy her but in their defense she was sitting on my artist ally table.

    7. I myself am still waiting for my doll.. and I honestly don't know whether I'd feel offended or proud if someone asked me to buy my doll. It all depends on how it's asked I guess. And.. and.. I don't know.
Perhaps I'll just smack them in the face. :3

    8. Someone PM'd me here on DOA recently asking if I would sell my Yo-Tenshi Hinata, Ducky, to her/him.
      Um...no.
She is my favorite. I swear, she will be buried with me :P
I have had people PM me about wigs before, but Ducky? Not gonna happen.

And if I did..the price would be astronomical. :wiggle

    9. I've never had that happen to me, but I've written down a few websites, including DOA for a girl at the pylon before. she was cool.

    10. A week ago at AnimeNEXT, a group of us had gathered with our dolls in the lobby.

Some girl ran up to us and exclaimed, "Hey! Any of you with dolls!! Does anyone have a boy I can buy off you!?"

We all sat there and stared at her like, "............"

What made it even more amusing to me, was that we JUST left a BJD panel, one of the topics discussed was how rude it is to go up to a doll owner and ask to buy it off them. And often they offer a freaking ridiculous price, like $100.

    11. As long as the person wasn't obnoxious about it, I would definitely take this as a compliment. If I told them the price and they don't drop dead, I'd point them to where they could find one of their very own. :)

    12. I rarely bring my dolls out (because of the sunnnnn and I'm always on the go lol), but when I do it's usually at a convention (when I'm free). I've had one person ask if I bought my SD at the convention and I replied with, "Oh, no, you can only get them online, I'm sorry!" and the girl was like eh whatever and walked away *shrugs* I think people expect to pay no more than like $60 for a BJD - acting like it's a figurine when it shows up at a convention >_<

I should hand out "What is a BJD?" business styled cards for those who are interested lol!

    13. I haven't had anyone ask yet, but I also haven't taken them to many public places where it'd be odd to see a doll. Josslyn's been to Hobby Lobby and Toys R Us loads of times and she's the size of a Barbie, so no one really notices. The closest I've had to any interest in her is a little girl at HL who looked like she really wanted to touch her at the checkout. XP I think if anyone did ask to buy one, I'd be flattered and tell them how to get their own.

    14. I have received an offer for one of my dolls once (that's only if we take the serious offers and not the "please give me as a gift!" or "I'll give you US$5 bucks for it" *offers*...), but it was like US$ 100 above the original factory price (forgetting about the shipping I had to pay by EMS and the tax here on customs), for a limited doll, and for one of my favorite dolls...so I rejected it, but given the circumstances maybe if I got a fair offer I wold sell some of my boys...even so, I rather to import "dolls for sell" than "sell my own", the only problem is, as you said, people ho doesn't have, or know, about this dolls and this hobby, think they are way cheaper than what they really are, and the offer it's never good enough... :|

    15. I've had a friend ask me if I can buy her a doll, if that counts. xD

As I don't have one, I've never been asked, but when I went to an anime con last year, there was a BJD display and seminar--they do it every year, and that happens to be how I found out about them a couple of years back--and there was a beautiful greening BJD (I'm pretty sure she was a Soom). The owner had modded her with vines and she looked like a forest goddess, which is what she was aiming for as soon as she saw the attack of green.

The people who ran the display and seminar are really nice and give out websites, show and let you hold and pose the dolls, and give good advice and such. Unfortunately, there was a woman who literally tried to walk out of the seminar with the forest goddess BJD. Yeah. Just left a couple of twenties on her chair and booked it while they were tending to a couple of other people and explaining the dolls. Luckily, she was caught promptly (The people who were sitting next to her noticed right away and hauled after her. I was one of the people that was getting something explained to. Dx) and before she had even made it five feet from the door and kicked out. Some people.

    16. I've only had people ask how much Madison was, to which they are usually like wow. Mostly I get not fun experiences when I take her in public. I went to a FYE anime event and a woman and her daughter (who LOVED Madison and I let her play with her as long as she kept her sitting on the table and was very careful) and I went to look around the mall. I ended up hanging out with a friend instead and we went to Exotic Imports. The guy would NOT leave me alone, insulting Madison and telling me she was a freaky *** doll and why would I carry something like that around? The next month, I went again and we decided to go to Exotic Imports, figuring that the guy wouldn't be there. Guess again. I got so angry that I just stormed out because the minute I walked in he was like "Oh look! Its freaky doll girl!" *growl* I hate humans sometimes. XD

    17. Wow. That's really uncalled for. I understand when people don't get BJDs and shy away, but going so far as to harrass someone is too much. I hope you don't run in to that guy again.

    18. I don't go to the FYE events anymore. AI and ACEN are the only things I go to that I bring her out really. Sometimes I will bring her out but that is rare. Husband refuses to walk next to me when I am holding her in public when we arn't at a con.

    19. Darn.

I sort of relate BJDs to cosplaying. One of my friends is in the process of ordering a BJD and I'm saving up. She's really bold and I'm sort of shy. With cosplaying, I'm hesitant to do it outside of cons because of the way some people react. I'm afraid I'll be like that with my BJD...Luckily I have her, and her braveness. Maybe it's sort of like that for your husband?

And I'll probably end up taking him to a con and being really over protective and 'uh, no. my doll. no touchie' just because of what happened last year. I don't even have him and I feel that way. xD Maybe it'll ease with time?

    20. I'm a little touchy when it comes to Madison. I will let Shisako from the fourms here play with her, because we play with each other's dolls when we are at cons. I always end up being the one babysitting all of our dolls. XD Other than that, I am very selective. I will let people hold her, but only if I am standing right there so that I can catch her or snatch her away if something happens. My cousin has almost broken her both times he has touched her, so he no longer gets to touch her. He stood her in the middle of a placemat and was slowly turning it and she almost faceplanted had my hand not been right infront of her. Needless to say, I get very wary when he goes near her. My grandma and Shisako are about the only ones I don't get really worried if they are holding her. My grandmother collects porclian dolls, so she knows to be careful. Its so cute watching her hold her, she holds Madison like a baby. It's ADORIBLE.
