WITHdoll Mini Discussion Part 8

I think you already answered your own question above. xD If they made the resin shoe parts to fit their existing feet, there could be huge fitting issues with parts that were cast at a different time. I would imagine feet parts with toes would require a very specific fit.

Also, Soom has toeless feet parts for pumps (Vesuvia heels were the first ones, I think) and so does Withdoll for these pumps:


But it's true that the sizes change over time. None of the resin shoes fit my Priscilla who was from the very first female release. I had to get her new feet for her to be able to wear the resin shoes. However, Withdoll provided them for me for free when I explained that the resin shoes didn't fit at all. :3

 

Anyone have a NS withdoll and either an oriental dollshe or NS fairyland and can do a resin comparison for me, by chance? Just trying to figure out if it's passable for some floating heads I have.

That said I hope their next event comes up soon. I'd love for them to rerelease Kiara or Priscilla's LE counterparts, though; I love them so much (or an elf. Elves are good). Assuming all goes well, I should be buying a secondhand Eliza this weekend, though! I plan on eventually maybe getting a Souldoll and Supia MSDs so hopefully they won't look too terribly out of place next to each other.

 

skin match should be quite good, I can't help much with pictures as my pukifees are quite old, but I had some minifee heads to paint and it looked similar (withdoll is slightly pinker)
Anyway fairyland heads would set a bit too high on the long withdoll neck! You would have to modify it :/

I'll hopefully get a Priscilla so, if that all goes through fine and dandy, the other head might fit better... I'm not sure. All else fails I'll try a different head, though.

Also, I can't access the marketplace yet so all of my experience with bjds is relegated primarily to the b/s/t groups on facebook for right now, but does anyone know how often withdolls show up secondhand? Particularly the elf ones like Emma or Ruby? I'm really conflicted since Withdoll told me they have no plans to rerelease elf Emma and Witch Emma is on their LE sale right now... I love Emma's sculpt and I'd love to get her in grey or tan but I don't know if I should bother trying to get her as well or just get Priscilla... It just seems kind of a waste to get Emma and then put in the extra money to mod her if the elf one shows up here and there? I know they have Egon right now but Egon is probably my least favorite elf withdoll sculpt and it just doesn't vibe with me, if I have to be honest.

 

@Epona elf ruby and Emma have been released like 3 times already. They'll probably come back. Withdoll tends to bring then back. I asked them about plans to re-release elf Vera back in December and they said they wouldn't. Guess who I just ordered from them yesterday.

 

Alright I'll keep an eye out! Didn't know they came out that many times already. Is Kiara new or has she been released a few times as well? I'll have to keep an eye out for the winter event, then. I think they usually do events like this twice a year?

 

Maybe they've only been released twice. I missed out on elf Ruby the first time, so I bought the regular version. I never really bonded with her, so when they re-released her I sold mine and bought the elf version.

Anyways, I still believe she'll come back.

 

Do they? I'm only on facebook and I've only seen like, 3, in the last few months (none being elves) so I wasn't sure if maybe they're just not too popular or what lol. I should have access in a month so I'll be able to poke around then but that's good to know, thank you! The resin match looks pretty good, too, so that's nice to know The withdoll bodies are so pretty.

 

I have 2015 & 2017 Withdoll NS, the 2017 NS will hybrid FL lucywen head,
but when I comparison them, the color had a little different.

(2015 WD-Angela always sat on the table.)


My friend said WD resin would gradually become less pink, and then began to yellowed.
In my experience,FL resin will just yellowed.

So.... I hope that hybrid can be kept for a long time.

 

Different rates of yellowing are one reason I rarely hybrid. The resin colors may be a near exact match when you first buy them, but before long one or both of them will change. I made a "perfect" hybrid once--I don't remember the dolls involved--and within 6 months the body was very yellow, the head not so much. Good luck to anyone who tries it. Who knows? Resin colors as a whole may be more stable now than they were a few years ago.

It's reassuring that the requirements are fairly strict to help weed out scammers and stuff. I really hope the next month goes by fast, though; I'd love to get my first doll so I can be able to have fun with them before university starts back up soon and cold Wisconsin weather starts to rear it's ugly head - but we'll see what happens.
I was eyeing a doll on facebook, and I'd have to get ears modded onto her, so... I might have to see if there are any ear mod artists in the US if all else fails and the seller is willing to ship to the US. I just feel so nervous thinking about sending off my doll to an artist though! What if something goes wrong and it gets lost or something. D:

I could probably get a different ear style than the default ones if I go down that route, I suppose, though! Maybe something like the wood elf ear design from Skyrim or something. I sold off a lot of my pullip collection to raise money so it does seem kind of "lonely" here if that makes sense, for the time being. XD I'm still selling some stuff off so "worst case" scenario and I have to wait for the next event and there is elves, maybe I could get two dolls at once. Doesn't Withdoll typically have two events a year? Or is it more? Because right now I'd be anticipating maybe one of the elves to come back sometime during the winter.

 

As your neighbor to the west, I can tell you that there's still ways to work on and with your dolls for the half of the year known as "winter." But I'll still hope you can get your elf before the weather gets ugly!

 

You mean the quarter of winter when the snow is soft and not a icy, slush-monster hell? LOL.

Hopefully if I get my doll before autumn hits, the fall weather will be fair before it starts getting into the frigid, who-knows-what'll-happen late October/November weather. I have a few ideas for clothing from Ren faire scraps that I have, so hopefully I can learn how to sew something decent in time too. I also have some faux fur bits and possibly some old pelts so hopefully I can make some thing of faux-pre-modern era/fantasy clothing for them, too.

I do have some ideas for a nice winter shot though, if all else fails, though it does require a relatively decent weather for it - the last year it seems like the year was 75% spring (which, I love spring, so I'm not hating on it, but still!) and I think the year before that there was a drought or something... bah. Lol.

Also, unrelated to what I was just talking about, but - Has anyone put a male head on a female body? If so, how compatible are the msd male heads on the female bodies? Withdoll's website has the circumference for males as 7.2cm and females as 6.5cm. Egon can have a male or female body, and I assume they don't have a "female Egon" mold, so... I assume it's compatible? Is it a good fit, or does it require some modding?
If by chance anyone has any ideas for a smaller body build for a withdoll body, I'm all ears too... I was considering Resinsoul for a very lithe character but it seems Resinsoul is both the same height and has too wide of a neck (42cm, 8cm). Apparently the Mei/Ju body (42cm, 6cm).... Although, come to think of it, I'm not sure if they're measuring the body height of the doll with or without the head for either company's measurements. :/

 

I've actually done stuff deep into winter. Some daylight bulbs and backdrops can make for some nice indoor photos, and clever positioning makes for good outdoor ones! (I've even done faceups in the winter, on the warmer and drier days.) And as for clothes, you could get a jump start on that by seeing if anyone could make you a tape dress form! (I'd offer, but my only WD is male.)

 

Depending on how things go, I might be getting either some bodies for some floating heads I have or a doll off of Denver Doll... Mostly depends on how my sales go for some off-topic dolls, since I don't want to dip into my funds that I currently have stashed for a Withdoll. If all else fails I could probably do some kind of mock-up with some masking tap, tinfoil, and measuring tap if I really needed to, though. I have a few different ideas!

I got her a little bit ago, but I thought I'd share with everyone I was very lucky to get a Ruby elf! 8D
She's super cute and I'm really pumped to have her! I got her in a few days ago and her wig came in earlier today. I got some eyes I was thinking about giving to her as an alternate pair, but it turns out the eye wells were too small for her lmao. Do Withdolls take a certain dome size? I'm not really familiar with 'high dome' and 'low dome' in regards to a doll's fit, so ...oops. XD It fits in some other heads I have though, so all is well! Luckily the seller gave me some eyes for free which were going to be her main pair for now anyways, so she has some really cute bluish hazel eyes right now.

She's currently naked, though I'm hoping to sew up... something for her for the meantime, though! Hopefully I can make some progress on that tomorrow/in the morning. Then I might feel a bit better about taking some photos of her. XD
Now I just need to slowly stash money aside for maybe a dark elf angela and Emma... though I did see an Emma for sale on facebook and I'm kind of tempted to see if they would ship to my country and then get elf ears modded onto her, lol. I could get a different style, but... Maybe I should put that off. It'll be awhile until I have the full funds anyways, I suppose LOL.

Also, Withdoll is a newer company so there probably isn't a lot of information on it, but does anyone have any experiences to how Withdoll's non-UV skintones age over time?
