WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. It took 1 month longer for my first BJD to get home, thanks to Asian New Year...the whole package was damaged and dent (i was so happy that i ordered a carrier bag as well, they stuffed her safe and sound in the carrier back, inside her company box and then in the box it got send in...). And she arrived just in the three days that i was gone that month~! Argh, patience came to an end back then. Besides that, she has the strangest tiny black spots on her but which i won't get of...or know what it is...and its bothering me, mostly she wears clothing and all but with body blushing or making sure she is clean after we went outside...myeah, it bothers me...

My string tool broke when i was restringen a doll, so the elastic and the piece of metal shot back into my doll, i was so relieved when i found out that nothing got damaged, maybe a tiny chip from a thicker part of my doll from the inside...but nothing to serious...

I acidentally bumped over my nailpolish remover WITHOUT aceton when i was cleaning my girl...and it removed her incredible beautiful company face-up partially...i was all sad and blah. And i tried restoring it...i might have to try it again, but it's not that bad....

Beside that, nothing else...yet...yeah the fear of melting her when i was hot glue sueding her. And of course the face-planting into the floor while she stood like a strong tree when you move your back towards them for 3 seconds.../ninja skills developing

    2. My worst experience is nowhere near as bad as these, though I have had quite a few.

My first was when I finally got my first BJD Sera (Resinsoul Lan). I was doing her box opening pulling off her Styrofoam 'gloves' when I noticed something desperately wrong, she had a left hand on her right wrist! I quickly ripped the other 'glove' off and breathed a sigh of relief, her missing right hand was on the left wrist. The next challenge however came in the fact that I had no tools or anything to get her hands switched, so I improved, I used the hook of a gift-card to hold one side of elastic in place while I switched her hands around. Of course when I finally got her hands in place I breathed again, only to notice that her hand is too big for her wrist ^^; aah can't catch a break.

Another time due to 'kicky-leg' syndrome my poor girl took a serious nose-dive (the *smack* was sickening :() onto a very hard surface, by some miracle though she had no damage!

And finally my new boy Kai. ohh lordy so much to say about him. He is probably the loveliest doll I have ever owned, except well a few things my friend never told me about him when I was negotiating how much I'd spend on him. She said he only had a few scratches on him, but neglected to tell me about some serious HEAVY seaming lines on him. I was heart-broken to see all those seams on him almost to the point where they looked to be gouges. I mean I knew he was older, yellowed, etc but when I paid for him I did NOT expect him to be so seamed ;_; now I can't even do anything about it because then the lines would show through his natural white resin tone.

Lesson learned, ask for more detail pictures, even when it comes to friends.

    3. Just a few hours ago, i took my beloved Dimitrius outside for a photoshoot. He looks so natural in the forested areas, i took him out to the one behind my house. I set him up for a pose and pulled back to take the picture when i heard this really loud snap. He had fallen over...and a lot of his pieces were missing. I just managed to find his leg and arm, but his hand and his ear are still out there somewhere, i think they fell into the nearby drain.

I hugged him and apologized over and over and over again and looked for hours, but I guess this is the universe telling me that I should be more careful with my dolls....and that you dont really realize how much you love your dolls until they get hurt. They become like family to you and once something bad happens, you get a bit hysteric.

EDIT: 1 hour after i initially typed this

I managed to find his hand, but 2 fingers and his S hook are MIA....so i have to find a way to either get a new head or find someone who can fix his ear with apoxie or something...and buy him a new hand or set of hands.

    4. I never bonded well with my first doll. It was horrible and sad. But I am happy that I finally sold that doll.
I also have owned two body which were totally ****.

    5. That's good news about finding more parts of him - I really hope you can find the rest and/or get him fixed soon! D:

    6. My worst doll experience would probably have to be the time I ordered a Resinsoul Mei, and Bei from Denverdoll. When they arrived my Mei was safe and sound inside her yellow bag, company box and Shipping box. My Bei on the other hand was in her little yellow bag, taped to the outside of Mei shipping box. That’s right she was taped to the OUTSIDE of the box!:horror: I thought for sure she would be crushed, but amazingly she made the 900 mile trip in one piece!!!!:cheer I inspected her over and over again for about a week before I finally believed it.

    7. Yeah, unfortunatly i will need a new hand for him since i cant find the stupid fingers anywhere. His ear...well, i can always find someone to apoxie it or something to at least give him back an ear, or at least someone to Mod it to make it look cool...

    8. I haven't had too many bad experiences but the ones I've had put my through the ringer. I've had a couple of MIA faceup artists who did come around after a little poking but that seems to be kind of common. I wish it wasn't though. I've been in a couple swaps where my partner flaked and I wound up not getting anything in return.

I don't think I've ever had any quality control issues on any dolls I bought new. And only one doll that was all kinds of of a mess because she was shipped with only a grocery bag for padding.

My worst experience would be when I put a doll on layaway and faithfully made my payments every month. And come the end of the layaway the seller disappears and never sends the dolls. ><

    9. Edits from my last 2 posts: After looking with my mom, we managed to find the fingers and ear piece. The only thing missing now is his S-hook.

Another scary thing just happened though, seems my luck is out of wack today. Felix just took a headdive...While SITTING!! Gravity Hates me! Luckily, he came out without a scratch!! Resinsoul Dolls seem to be super durable!

    10. I finally after 8 years got an airbrush for faceups that I had always wanted(airbrush+ compressor about $400) but that night someone broke into my car, popped the trunk, and stole it. In my own suburban driveway where this has never happened before. The police never even came to investigate. I tried going back to pastels and stuff but it just makes me angry and upset whenever I think about it (it happened about a month ago) and the faceups have suffered because of it. They're not as good as the ones I used to do.

    11. I think the worst experience I had in the hobby pales in comparison to some of the stuff that other people have experienced. It was really just a problem with bonding. I bought a DollGa Noella because her pictures made her look so pretty, but when she came in I was just appalled at how large her head was. She's an adorable sculpt, but her head was heeeeeeug. It was scary. I didn't like it at all, but she was the first doll I purchased that I didn't like so I sat on her for ages before I decided I just couldn't stand having her around.

She went to someone who'd sold the sculpt before and missed having her around, though, so she went to a good home. I felt really guilty about selling her for awhile, almost like I'd failed her, but I've become much more okay with selling dolls that don't fit since then, so it ended up being a good learning experience.

    12. I know this is not as bad as some of the things i read here but well…

I had a bad experience being a seller… I live in a country where the post office is terribly slow even if you use EMS it may take up to 15 to arrive to the US. I bought a Magical Michael because I wanted the body for my SD Anais head. I sold the head and wig to a two different girls in spain and the clothes and boots to a girl in the US. The spanish girls didn't complaint at all, they were very sweet. But the girl from the US sent me about 4 or 5 mails accusing me of scam because the clothes took 15 days to arrive. I even had to scan the EMS receipt so the girl saw I DID sent the clothes to her and the date. I was trying to be really cool about it and acted nice to the girl, but I was really stressed about it. Finally when the clothes got to that girl she apologized for accusing me of scam and thanked me for being so sweet to her…
      I hope this doesn't happen again ever…

    13. I hope that my "worst" stories only stay as they currently are... which aren't bad at all.

      - My very first dream doll came to me after I purchased her second hand. When I was dressing her, she snapped back and pinched me hard. D: I did later sell her due to bonding issues, sadly.

      - My very first time restringing, I impaled my thumb on the restringing tool. I was so frustrated and had pulled so hard that, well, yeah (I also later learned I wasn't stringing the best way thanks to my mother who had an easier idea). Blood got all over my poor baby and it hurt so bad. But, he did stand better after that...

      - Coming to the realization that my doll I'd owned the "longest" out of any of my dolls... was no longer my pride and joy. And realizing that it was time to sell her. That broke my heart, especially since I don't regret it at all. (TBH, I've been lucky enough to avoid selling a doll until I'm ready, but it made me so sad I ceased having a bond with her).

I really hope that's the worst it stays. u_u

    14. My worst was the 'death' of my first boy....I searched for 2 years until I found my B&G afra elf. I saved another year to get him. He was my pride and joy and the only doll I had as I had a baby not long after i got him and didn't have the money or time for another. Anyways, my husband is not from around here, and has little family in my country. So a month after we married we went to go visit his mother in NY, a 19 hour drive. (We live in WI) While we were there with the kids, our landlord (who knew we were gone and our cell phone did not work out there) went into our appartment, threw out EVERYTHING we owned, this included our furniture, baby items, all our wedding things and gifts, all my photography equiptment, my computer, which was the only place most of my familys' photos were on, and of course, my angel and all his belongings. On our way home our car broke down beyond repair and we got stuck in Indiana for 3 days and had to ride back with all our things and kids on a greyhound. When we came home to being locked out and found out everything we owned was at the dump....I bawled. I told him how much that doll was worth, kept expecting to see him on craigslist and pawn shops, as some of my jewelry and electronics did, but he never did. All I can assume is that My boy is gone forever, thrown in the dump, and I miss him terribly. I admit I was more upset over losing him that over losing my dress. He meant so much.......I had him for almost 5 years and hes just gone. I wanted to pass him onto my oldest daughter when she was old enough. Ughhhh.

    15. I'm sorry for your loss. :(
I would cry too if that happened to me.
Did your landlord have just cause for doing that?

I know it's hard to replace a doll, it's sentimental.
But you can always get another one, to enjoy and make new memories with! :)

    16. My hubby bought me a new one for our anniversary. I made a hybrid this time, and I love him. I miss my other boy though. I keep thinking I might buy one second hand and make it someone new. It took me a long time to find one I loved again, but now that I have I'm finding a whole family of them xD. This was about a year and a half ago. No he had no right, we're suing him, it's about a 200,000 lawsuit with all the 'property damage' and emotional issues. Not to mention having to move somewhere very low grade because we had nothing and no time to wait for a good place. We're just buying a house and I get a dollie allowance out of it if we win. :D thanks for the caring though.

    17. For the last 2 days I was making a wig for my doll. Its a red wine color. As I was measuring elastic to put on the edge of the wig cap I noticed a spot of pink on the tip of his nose. Then i noticed the pink on his chest as well.

I undressed him, pushed my mom out of her bathroom, ran water in her tub and spent the next 30 minutes sitting in the tub, fully dressed, scrubbing at him with soap and water.

I'm just glad I noticed before the stain really set in. I am never making a wig without washing it first again.

    18. one, when i having my second doll from AOD's, everything was perfect from the website picture and i have done some investigation and the comments are fine and nice before i decided to have the doll.Few weeks later, i receive the dolls from AOD. I was falling from heaven at the minute when i open the box, some of his joint are looking weired, and his body are LEAN BACKWARD slightly, i was afraid the doll will completely tip over when i placed him on the desk,ok...finish with the body, when i wanted to place the eye into the eye socket,DAMN! second problem come out, his eye socket are uneven,I CANNOT PLACE THE EYE INTO HIS EYE SOCKET PREFECTLY!!!:x
third things is the are some dirty spot that cannot clean on the doll's face, cant notice when taking the photos....At the end i have to sent him away as i cant help myself get piss off everytime i see the doll X.X.This lesson told me,Never Ever go back to AOD again if i wanted to have another doll......

    19. When I bought my Kizdoll Vince the company lied about when they were going to send him waited for 100 days and let me tell you Never again!

    20. Many people wait very long times to get their dolls. I waited over 90 days to get one of mine. Sometimes it takes so long because they haven't made the doll yet. Better get used to long wait times as it is a part of this hobby. There is no instant gratification here. And if you find a doll you can buy off ebay and it will arrive in a week you'd better check that doll out thoroughly. I got a bootleg because I didn't ask enough questions or ask to see more pictures and I wanted the doll right away. I could not resolve the transaction so now I am stuck with a doll that I can't sell and that I have had to mark as a fake in case something happens to me and my dolls get sold.
