WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. I"ve been in this hobby too long, I thought of another.

At one of the first big meet-ups I had at my house I was looking at someone's LatiDoll Yellows. Unfortunately, this woman didn't go to a lot of meet-ups, so when I exclaimed that they were so funny looking! I think she as offended. I think I might have said some other things that might have seemed mean to someone who didn't know me, but what I don't think she realized was that I use those sorts of words endearingly. For example, I have purchased several dolls because they were "sooo ugly" to me, but ugly in a good way (I won't mention any, I might offend someone). Ugly like... a Shar Pei is ugly... or ugly like the cutest little scrunch-faced goblin is ugly, not ugly as in the EW GET IT AWAY ugly. She never came back to any meet-ups, and I feel really, really bad about it. Of course, this was probably five years ago and she may not even remember anymore, but... I wish she could have seen how entranced I really was with those tinies. I even ended up buying a few Laties at one point, though I ended up selling them all because I couldn't figure out what to do with them once I had them :(

    2. That must have been so scary!

That's awful! I would have been so depressed. [IMG]

    3. My worst moment was trying to remove my Hujoo's head plate for the first time. I tried wiggling it for hours until it finally came off. My fingers were raw after.

    4. I ordered Banned dolls for my first doll purchases! (if that counts) I had no idea until I looked on this board, and (luckily) I was able to cancel my order... :( Still sad that there are no dollies here though!

    5. I've had a few bad experiences in the hobby to date, from the really bad newbie mistake of using acetone on grey resin right back at the beginning of my BJD journey, acidentally glueing magnets in backwards (at least that's an easy fix by gently boiling parts to loosen and remove the offending magnets) and all the way through to having a new doll arrive with the back plate of its head cracked in 1/2...which I would have previously deemed as my worst experience. However, the very worst experience I've even had was thanks to the lack of real customer service from the people at Australia Post over here in OZ and Royal Mail / Parcel Force over in the UK.
I recently sold one of my dolls to another wonderful and very patient, might I add, member of DOA via Ebay. As I usually am I was fairly anal-retentive in making sure the doll - one of my 2 grey Pipos Charlottes - was as well packed and padded as conceivably possible and was sent via an insured postal service for safety's sake. However, as Charlotte's new owner and I both agree, she must have suffered some fairly rough handling in transit as sadly the very tips of her ears chipped off in transit.
Now if it wasn't devastating enough for anyone to receive a damaged doll or to be the sender of said doll afraid that you are somehow responsible for its demise but when the buyer and I have gone to try to sort out how to make a claim we've both had nothing but trouble from the postal systems in our respective countries. Neither Royal Mail / Parcel Force or Australia Post seemed willing to help as each seemed more intent on claiming that UPU Guidelines stipulated that the Claim needed to be started by the other party. It was only after 2-3 weeks of yelling at various members of the Australia Post International team to get it through to them that Royal Mail / Parcel Force were refusing to start a claim their end that any type of investigation was started. It's now been 3-4 weeks since that time and still no news! Hence, I can definitely say this has been the worst, most stressful and mentally exhausting experience I've had in this hobby to date.

    6. I had one. I build up enough confidence to restring my sd then when I got ready to take the S hook off of the head I didn't realize the elastic was so tight and it fell in his torso. I freaked out and asked my dad for help. He had to literally grab a wire hanger and pull the S hook back on his head. It completely scratched up the back of his head. I promised myself I would never attempt a restring again.

    7. The first two dolls I ordered where up on ebay from the same seller. I managed to get both of them and was ecstatic Fast forward the 2 weeks I'd pestered the seller about where the hell they were(yeah they were coming from California) as shipping didn't take that long and finally they arrived. Aside from some yellowing and a bite mark on her torso Tsume was great. :crushed
Kietta arrived extremely discolored, and covered with nail polish, not to mention scratched. Of course I then ended up in the hospital and wasn't able to file a claim until a week later. The seller after multiple emails claimed I was a liar and that they'd both arrived in perfect condition and they didn't know what I was talking about. Ebay sided with them:vein, but the silver nail polish still in his arm joint and on his arm after extensive modding and a dye job begs to differ. :roar

Now don't get me wrong I adore Kietta, but worst introduction to a hobby everrrrrrrrrrr.

    8. My worst experience would be attempting to trade my Lucias for a DZ Fei Female. The girl got me to send him both of us agreeing on sending ours out the same day and me coming home to a message saying she wasn't sending hers out that day that she had to wait. And then I waited for another reply for a week and I got no reply whatsoever.
I threatened her with lawful action and she suddenly appeared with the excuse of "I was away" when she was still logging onto her dA account and still offering hers for sale.
She received my doll which had his faults plainly stated in the listing and then proceeded to accuse me of scamming her. She then made me pay for his shipping back and I got him back missing three fingers. She said "his fingers were broken" when she received him but she never said anything about it. And because she somehow couldn't afford the insurance with the money I sent her even though it was more than I had used to ship him there I couldn't get it fixed.

What's funny though she was so adamant about how I scammed her that she failed to mention his fingers were broken through shipping.

But anyways after having been scammed and almost losing a 240 dollar doll and then receiving him back damaged with no way to fix him I've been extremely cautious and will ONLY trade dolls through DOA.

    9. Buh, I have no luck with dolls and heights. (Well derp, I shouldn't be putting them up high anyways...)
Im convinced Kotori is afraid of heights because she is a frequent faller. But she manages to come out ok eack time, so I guess thats ok....
The worst thing that happened to me was with my puki. Actually two things. The first time I got her I brought her with me pretty much anywhere and guess what? She broke her little foot. I almost died, because I knew nothing about restringing and was so afraid I would make it worse. But in the end I saw that she just needed a new little piece of wire that can hold the tiny s hook. I freaked for nothing, haha.

But the second time was the absolute worst. I was posing her on my staircase, when she flew face first onto the granite floor of my foyer. Admittedly, I wasnt worried. But then I went to assess the damage and oh my god... her tiny little pouty mouth that I loved was chipped. The Factory Faceup was completely ruined.... I was so heartbroken, because fairyland does the most sincere and delicate faceups on pukis I have ever seen.

But It makes her feel like she is a little troublesome kid. As if she enjoys the adventures of being a daredevil... Things I added to her personality. :P

    10. I was reading this thread and thinking to myself that I've been pretty lucky so far and haven't had anything really 'bad' happen, until I remembered that one of my dolls has been stolen before! How I could forget, I'm not so sure.

It was NY Dolpa 3 and I was packing up Saturday night to head home via greyhound bus. I was in the lobby of the Gershwin hotel packing all my dolls; I was on one side of the table and Mio, my MSD f-10, was on the other side of the carrier waiting to be put in. I looked down for a second and when I looked up he was GONE. I frantically asked my friend in the room over (where a big meet was going on) if she had seen him/taken him and we were both in a panic when the bellhop comes rushing in from outside with Mio in his hands! He was a smidgen ruffled up but nothing was damaged. Apparently the bell hop had seen a woman pick him up and actually chased her down the street to retrieve him. We tried giving him money as thanks but he wouldn't accept it. I will be forever grateful to that man and am always a lot more careful with my dolls in public. Now Mio is more precious to me than ever as he was stolen and returned!

    11. KeiCai_Ayan, your worst experience doubles as mine too, lol! Thinking about that incident still gives me shivers to this day!!

    12. Most people would think that playing with dolls would be all sunbeams and rainbows with tea parties and good times. Instead here's a litany of lies, thievery, damage, suspicion of terrorism and spectacular accidents. As well as littered with the uncaring indifference of governmental agencies with their power mad postal services. There's so many threats and recriminations in selling transactions. Its enough to be a show on cable TV!

    13. As of yet my worst doll experiance deals with the bjd company LUTS. My boyfriend randomly bought my a SD Thanos Normal tan with faceup. When he arrived he had NO faceup... it has ben rather overwhelming and frustrating. I'm not going to send back the doll or talk to the company about it. Just going to try to make it work and give myself a project to do(faceup, clothes, wig).

    14. Porcelain, aren't you at least going to try and get a refund for the faceup? They normally do that sort of thing.

    15. Oh I remembered another one, I was taking pictures of Mouse my Dollshe Bernard in the old alleways of Nazareth, and there were a group of kids following us around curious as to what I was doing, so I held mouse out for them to look at him. My partner Ynon told them in Hebrew to be very careful as he is expensive, but I don't know if they didn't understand (they were arabs) or they just didn't give a crap, because one of the girls just grabbed Mouse's face and pulled him VERY hard wrenching his head around and pulling off his faceplate, which she then started to run away with!
I yelled at her, and the other children told her off and gave his face back...whew....heart attack.

    16. Augh I know! I still can't believe my good fortune that the bell hop was so observant and cared so much. I will forever be grateful to him. But that taught me to never take the greyhound again and leave in the middle of all the fun!

    17. I haven't had any horrible incidents, but I did have a bad time at school with one of my dolls.
Since I knew that my parents nor I would be home most of the time when one of my dolls were supposed to be delivered, I asked one of my friends if he could receive the doll for me instead.
When the doll came, he brought the package to school and I eagerly opened it during lunch time. :)

When I was about to put her back, though, a random person snatched her away from me and asked me how much she cost.
I told her the actual price, and said person just freaked out. He started running around the school asking a bunch of people how much they thought the doll was worth, many of who said "below $5." Some people even thought she came from the dollar store.
That was actually really insulting and almost brought me to tears, I mean I don't really care when people don't know how much a bjd is worth, but $5 is even less than a barbie! She even had a fullset with a beautifully elaborate outfit and wig.
He refused to give me the doll back until the end of lunch, which was a full hour. That was excruciating. :shudder Fortunately, nothing broke.

Anyway, I've gotten over it. I've also accepted the fact that most teenagers can not appreciate anything. Or at least not craftsmanship.
Needless to say, I will never open a package in school again.

    18. lili, that is so ugly of him. The truth is, teens rarely value anything that won't up their status. They seem to think that iPods grow on trees and if their parents can't afford to buy them one they're abusing them. Go around and ask how much their purses and jeans cost.... want to talk about expensive.

    19. I can't help but think that maybe she was trying to steal him because you've told them he was expensive... :sweat

    20. Well my story still angers me till now I was budding on a doll on eBay and won the bid.. The seller gave me two days to pay and I paired within 24hours the full amount. Then emailed the seller asking her if she could please send the doll to my new addresses as I just moved to a different state and when she gets a chance to send the tracking number.. I assume this is what all of use bjd folks ask for a tracking number when sent. Well shortly after I revived a message saying that they refunded money and will not send the doll to me because I seem to be difficult and damanding?! I was shocked and sick to my stomach. They also said that it made her nervous that I was asking for a tracking number so soon and it stressed her out!

In all honesty I don't mind if she sent the doll a week latter just simply tell me when you do and I'm a happy camper! Well I think we all know what really happen..... The bid ended for less than she thought or wanted to keep the doll. What made me even more sick is I was willing to Haggle the price up by 500 more than I won fiords just because I fell in love with the doll. I left her feedback saying " dishonest seller refunded payment because bid went for less than expected" :((((( still disheartened!
