WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. The worst I think I had was seeing a doll on the marketplace that I LOVED and watching him get totally trashed and resold.
He was very artistically tattooed, had an awesome face up and gauged ears. He was something that I typically wouldn't have even considered buying except that with the sculpt, it just fit him. So I waited a week thinking that I could somehow muster up enough money to bring him home with me, and then he sold. A few days went by and there he was again on the MP, only he had been wiped clean(ish), they had decided to modify him but soon gave up, and had pretty much trashed him....and they were asking as much for him as they had bought him for.
      :/
It wasn't anything personally done to me, but it made me feel pretty awful for quite a while.

    2. I think my worst experience was the first time I bought a doll second-hand from the Marketplace. I paid the layaway to the seller, and then...never got the doll. I was still pretty new to DoA, even though I had qualified for the MP so I didn't really understand the process of having someone paged or anything. It was a really long time before I bought from the secondhand market again, and I was completely nervous about it the entire time.

My second-worst experience wasn't really too bad though I initially panicked. xD I'd moved since ordering my doll, and it shipped to my old address. -facepalm- Fortunately the people living in my old house were very kind, and forwarded the box to me without asking for any sort of compensation. But after that I double and triple check all my address stuff!

    3. Hey guys glad my sad story started a bit of a convo. My biggest disappointment was that I quickly wrote the seller back and said I don't mind if you send her to my moms ( the verified PayPal address) and they dinied... But all in all I'm happy it happen I don't want to buy a doll with bad vibes!

    4. my worst experience was not with one of my dolls.
a friend and i were outside to take some pictures of her dolls. we find a nice place to let one of the boys stand and start taking photos.
then he fall forwards and we both had nearly a heart-attak, because this doll allready fall some month ago and craked his nose and it was very difficult to let him look normal again (and not like after a bad nose surgery). but it was all fine, then the little boy had raised his armes and throw them for his face.
my friend and i thougt us, that he also hasn't much desire to craks his nose a second time ^^'

    5. A few days ago I had Albe standing on a chair (Not smart I know) so that her MSC on her body blushing I did could dry evenly. She toppled right over and hit the tile floor with a bang. I though for sure she would break an antler or finger off. Even my mom rushed over and thought the same thing would happen. LUCKILY she didn't even get a scratch! I will be more careful from now on though--total wake up call.

    6. Well, I've had some bad experiences, even if they could be worse as some I've read here... ^^UUU
Once, I was in a meeting and a girl asked for a friend's and my doll for taking some photos together with hers. Of course, we said yes. The bad part was that when she ended the sessions, she left our dolls alone and a bit far away from the group ^^U It wasn't nice at all. Good luck we noticed soon...

And my second bad experience was when I buy one of my dolls. It was a SD second hand, white-skin. The girl was sending it with a "little yellowish tone... because it was old and all... But it was a very BIG euphemism...
When I checked it out it was a disaster... Not only was yellow, completely yellow... It was in such bad conditions I wasn't even sure if she had lied to me with its age... The make up was horrible, I think... some of it was done without the MSC and with... I don't know... normal pencils and even some markers ;A; Also... inside of the head it was overly dirty (I don't know how it could happen) and there was like... glue. Horrible.
I didn't say anything to the girl, only that it was in worst conditions than stated in the feedback... because as I was new I didn't want problems and to trouble someone, but now I regret it.
I'm still trying to fix my boy... I've given him like 2 sandings and I erased the make up, even if there are some stains still. But now I have in mind to take him back to a decent image and I love him!
I felt bad for my bjd and all that had happened to him...

    7. I think it's when i wanted some clothes for my girls and when i was ready to pay another girl took the clothes i wanted and bought them before me .__. or when my doll fell from my book place(very high) and heard a ''CRIC'' i didnt dare to look , i was too scared but happily nothing happened...

    8. So many sad stories here,I'd never get over it if something really bad happened to my dolls. My worst doll experiences were completely all my fault. I didn't read tutorials before I did my first face up,so my doll's face got really stained.
I didn't use a wig cap and I put a jet black wig on her, causing her head to stain.
Instead of water based glue,I used super glue to attach her eyelashes! I ended up chipping her eye sockets and now her eyes don't look right.
The worst thing was when I was doing a faceup,my doll fell off my table and landed on the floor. Her nose got chipped, her chin and lips were chipped and her hands were damaged.
The funny thing is,all these mishaps made me bond with her and I didn't bond with her instantly when I first got her. We've just been through a lot together so now it's a strong bond.

    9. Every time, and I mean EVERY TIME I get a doll in the mail
the box is completely crushed and partially open.
I have a heart attack each time and the doll is always traumatized.
      thankfully no damage though....

    10. Phew!
I thought this only happens to me ..
I own quite a lot of dolls and ALL of my Tonner dolls arrived damaged -
one has very bad black stains, the other one has broken seems so her leg had to be glued.
The boxes looked like they got wet at some point.

Also with my BJD .. I wrote about the very first BJD I got was ruined by the custom,
the second one, an Obitsu Gretel was one hell of a mess -
her "face up" was done with sharpie and some kind of coal pencils.
      It was horrible.
My third BJD had a big chip on the back of her head where the head sits on the neck.
I wasn't able to glue or fix this,
what really made me sad because she was the first doll that I did not get second hand
but directly from the producer .. *sigh

Yeah - I never received a completely good and perfect doll so far :(
      but
I love all my babies anyway :)

    11. Installing the magnets in pukipuki! Omg, I just did this and it was a nightmare! I glued one set of magnets together! So I had to get another pair(I have a couple Pukis, and the other faceplates stay on without magnets!). I looked for a tutorial or something but I didn't find one. Please share the link if there is one! I'm so frustrated right now. Ugh! I finally got them in place, but it too a lot of work! Not to mention the ear magnets trying to pull the magnet out! Ok. Sorry I had to vent! Thanks!

      same here!!! Argh!

    12. Usually happens when something breaks. My El somehow ended up with a crack down his neck, not gonna point fingers, and I broke down and had a moment of ugly sobbing soon after discovering it.

One time I hosted a doll meetup, and all the dolls were set up on a table. My mother's somehow came out with a broken finger. I felt so awful. It would have been one thing if it had happened to my doll, but that it happened to my mother's doll right after she joined the hobby... I was beside myself with guilt for having invited over whoever broke the finger (no one owned up to it). Mum left the hobby soon after because of disappointment, when prior to the accident she was so excited about and so into the dolls.

And once I came home to find my pukipuki out of its niche (in a box, on top of a dresser) and on the carpet in pieces. It was chewed practically beyond recognition by my labrador. Luckily the dog didn't swallow anything since resin is highly toxic, but I was distressed beyond reason and couldn't bear to look at the doll for a week before attempting to fix him. I eventually got rid of him... but kept the silly dog, who, with a bit of training, never chewed inappropriate objects again (thank goodness).

I can't pick between these three incidents as to which was the worst, because they were all really horrible in different ways. The only common denominator is that they all relate to dolls being damaged. 2/3 of them are the result of interacting with other owners, though, so I pretty much keep to myself now.

    13. My worst doll experience ever was with Momocolor 29cm Banya. I was super excited about getting a brown resin doll and the wait time was remarkably short, so I thought everything was going to be so great. When she arrived, it was just problem after problem. She was a little darker than I was expecting, which, whatever, I could deal with. But the eyes they included with her were 1. cracked and 2. way too big. Additionally she has these really long pointy elf ears that are not visible in any of the company photos. I like elf ears, but they were too long for my liking. Out of the box, she couldn't pose for shit, she was kicky and could not stand at all. I have never had to glue suede a doll before, but with her it was absolutely necessary. After sueding, she could pose much better, but she was still difficult to stand. I propped her up on my desk to see if she could stand on her own and she fell face first and chipped off one of her ridiculously long ears. There is a flaw in her design that makes her difficult to balance, I learned that the hard way. In person, I just didn't like the doll at all. I never really did like the face sculpt all that much, and the single joint torso pissed me off more than I thought it would. I need poseability! After all that mess, I decided there was no way I could keep the doll. I would just end up resenting it.

    14. I haven't had any bad experiences in the hobby (fortunately). In fact i've been really lucky.

But I did want to add a piece of advice, or another option, for all the people here who have had problems with the mail providers.

Even though I live at home with my parents, we all have jobs and hardly any of us are home during the week. None of us are available to receive a package when it arrives.

Thus I decided to invest in a Post Office Box. Its not very expensive, and I believe quite a bit more secure, as the post office holds the parcel on site, while leaving a note in your box that states you have a parcel to pick up. Most times, I've had to sign and show photo ID when i do.

I'm not sure if this is available in all countries (maybe its just an Aussie thing?) but it has certainly worked for me.

    15. The head on my dollndoll Scilla constantly falls off. D; I've tried contacting the company about it, but I don't think they understand English very well...

    16. Yesterday, I went to a Volks After Event. I pulled number two which is a great number. I bought my doll and a doll for a friend who paid me back immediately. I suspected she then resold it to another friend at a profit because she was flustered when I asked her about where the doll was and she indicated that it was for someone else. Later on, I got an email from yet another friend (the one who asked me to buy the doll for the first friend who sold it to a second friend) who confirmed my suspicions. Now, I am really disgusted with them both.

I do not buy dolls to sell for profit and I feel dirty for helping someone do just that. When people put money and/or the want for a doll ahead of people, I really do question what kind of human beings they are. I do not think of those two people as friends anymore. I simply can't. We are now acquaintances.

    17. One time- It was my first time at my local doll store. ( And only. ;~; It closed! ) I had just been in an accident where I got a black eye. I met some really nice people who had BJD's and bought some great clothes for Bee. But I had a fever and bleeding in my skull and I got very dizzy and nauseous and ran outside to throw up! Twice! I was so embarrassed. >_< At least I caught myself and didnt throw up in the store.

    18. I accidentally burned a Volks schoolgirl uniform with an iron once. I don't have a lot of experience with ironing, so I tested my skills on a bunch of old t-shirts and then moved on to the dress.

It burned right away, ruining the dress. My heart sank so much :(

What I think happened was this plastic lace stuff underneath it got hot, melted, and burned the fabric on the top layer of the dress. I had no idea it could do that.

Later on, I tried putting a towel between the plastic lace and the fabric in a different spot on the dress, and it didn't burn. If I only knew...

    19. Probably the worst moment for me is one that keeps reoccurring: when bits of dust get into a new layer of MSC. I really can't stand that!
And another would be that famous mini-heart attack when you've just set up your doll, turn around to reach for you camera and then, from the corner of your eye, you see your doll sloooooowly starting to fall over....

    20. I think this would make me feel horrible, too. I can get very attached to things, even before they are 'mine'. You can't help it if you click, you know? I'm thankful that's not happened yet with a doll, but I am sure it will someday.
