WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. Eep!! I feel you. I once left a wood burner tool on next to my sewing machine, forgot, started to sew a costume piece before realizing it...I burnt a pretty big hole on my costume piece LOL. Luckily it was on the edge of the fabric so I was able to "fix" it...Needless to say I will not let that happen again!

Back on topic...I think my worst experience was losing out on a lottery for a doll I really wanted.

    2. Ugh. -_- What did you end up doing with it? Do you still have it? Maybe a decoration could be put over the burn? Could you pick it apart, then replace the burnt piece and the lace?

    3. I'm new to the hobby, and don't have any on topic dolls yet, so thankfully not too much has happened! I have had a couple of heartbreaking incidents, but nothing as terrible as what other have posted. The first is not being able to get my "grail" doll. I came up on lottery, but I didn't win. I wanted it to be my first doll since I love it so much! I wasn't expecting to win, but I got my hopes up. I can only hope it comes up on the market place sometime. ^^ My only other bad experience happened just the other day. I have more recently gotten more involved in BJDs, despite having liked them and admiring them for many years. My husband doesn't like them and thinks they are "creepy." We got into a fight about it and I had to explain to him that even though he doesn't understand the hobby, I really like BJDs, and it hurts my feelings when he says stuff like that. :( I think he understood though, and he seems more understanding now. :)

    4. I guess it would be when Aharon broke up with his bjd friend in Russia. Dani was his first love and it did not work out, they both got hurt.
Never before have I thought a doll could actually cry so much you could feel it in you. My girlfriend did not let go of him for the entire evening as she was afraind that Aharon himslef would vanish othrewise, leaving an empty useless shell in her arms.

    5. This happened to me with the very first BJD I fell in love with, she was gorgeous, but I had a budget and someone else fought me and eventually out bid me for her on ebay, I was gutted, and I was even more upset when a month later I saw the doll up for sale again minus her beautiful head to toe freckles and faceup:(
I even contacted that person who was now selling her, but she refused to post her outside of the country:(

    6. Mine is really long so I might split it into parts.
Mine was like bad luck after bad luck on 1 item. First time it was like the company's mistake, but they took responsibility so I appreciated that. What really upset me was the post office.

      [Part 1]
      (First bad luck)
I've ordered Souldoll in the summer. The sculpt was Soulkid, Shuan + faceup. I used to live in the USA so my old address was in the US. Later on, I had a plan to move to Thailand in couples months but I had to move that plan up because they wanted to interview me to Thailand. So I went there before it was expected and I have emailed the seller my new address, saying that I won't be able to get my doll in the US so please ship it to Thailand. (I bought it through Alicescollections so I emailed that site and they said they will tell Souldoll for me and my items will be shipped to my new address in Thailand)
I've waited longer than their estimated time to finish the items but I understood that they were having an event so I didn't mind the items coming late.
It was like 4 weeks longer than expected. I have emailed them to check that they had my item and after their response, I was less worried.
Couple of days later, Alicescollection had emailed me that my item was sent to the wrong address. instead of shipping it to Thailand, they shipped it to USA where I don't live anymore. I was so shocked because I've waited really long. They asked me to wait for the souldoll's response, and they have decided to ship me the new doll in some more week (Thanks both of them for taking the responsibility!!)
Okay, I had to wait longer, I didn't mind that since I know the new one will be shipped to the same address.

      But I was wrong.

(2nd bad luck continues from that story)
I've got the tracking number from them and checked it online. It was a 3-5 days EMS which was shipped out right after they emailed. But after waiting for weeks, I still haven't got my package. It turned out that, Thailand's post office didn't track down my package and it was stored somewhere else for weeks!
I was really frustrated and called my area's post office (which was about an hour away from my home) . It turned out that their phone number was out of service :doh
I had to call the main post office instead of my area's office. They asked me to give them my tracking number and they looked it up for me. They said my package is in another town and I'll have to go get my package from there. It was 3 PM when we were on the phone and post office closes at 4 PM. I decided to go on the next day.

      (3rd bad luck)
The next day, I turned out to be sick from allergy so my grandma had my cousin to go pick it up instead. He took my ID card and drove to the post office in other town. Which took him hours before returning home. He has paid the import tax of $40. He returned home with a huge package. I was really surprised why it was in a shape of big square instead of long rectangle. Perhaps Souldoll sent it in parts, I thought. So I opened the box to check. It turned out that inside was filled with candy bars and ants! :o
I checked the box and it had my address on in...but it was in a plastic address file that's glued to the box. I pulled out the paper from that file (my address) and it had another address underneath that's not mine!!!!

This picture is what was in the plastic address file. It was an EMS shipping info with my address

AND THIS IS THE BOX THAT I'VE GOT!!! (As you can see, the other address in the plastic case isn't even EMS)
So I figured out that... As the packages got into Thailand, they opened my box to check for illegal stuff and as they put the address info back into the plastic case, they switched mine with this box!!

      (To be continued)

    7. Oh man worst experience ever. That would have to be loosing my Delf Shiwoo head. Five years ago I won a Delf Shiwoo hybrid in a raffle on DeviantArt and he was my first doll. I loved him but I never really connected with the local doll community. Then by chance I made a friend who was also a doll owner. After months of telling me I should go for it I decided it was time and took his head off for the first time and sent it to a face-up artist since it had gotten damaged when he was originally sent to me five years ago.

I not knowing any better at the time didn't purchase insurance and boy did I ever learn my lesson. He got to the woman just fine and she did a wonderful job on him but it was the return trip that things went wrong. He got all the way up to my local sort facility a few towns over and was due to arrive the next day. The next day came and his tracking said undeliverable. I contacted the artist and she said she would talk to the post office. He never was found despite the fact that he had tracking.

I was devastated but it was also that experience that led me to finally purchase on my own my current dolls (which I technically consider my first since they're the first I bought). Sadly my friend still somewhat blames herself even though I keep telling her it wasn't her fault. It was my decision ultimately to send him off and my foolishness for not purchasing insurance.

    8. Coming into the hobby a complete n00b and not reading about sealants and proper materials definitely led to many unfortunate faceups that I myself am rather ashamed of. They led to staining that led to modding that led to anger and more modding.
Yukio is my prime example of this. He went through hell and back, and I don't think he recovered from it. Looking back, I not only feel terrible for the character, but for the base doll itself. I wrecked the resale value of this MnF Vamp Elf Shiwoo. And while he's looked fairly normal for the past 4-ish years, it makes me sad to look at him sometimes.

Hindsight is 20-20, and there are a lot of things I wish I hadn't done. Getting made fun of because of my n00bness/lack of skills didn't help either, and I sometimes wish I had/could sell him. But I'd never recoup the money put into the doll, which is why I've held on to him for so long and worked with what I've made him. I guess it's made our bond stronger, but I can't help but think "what if?" about him.

    9. ichelintan, I'm so sorry for all those troubles in getting your doll. I hate it when life makes a simple situation so stressful and upsetting, adding problem on top of problem. I hope it can all be resolved very very soon!

    10. That would have to be when I had a want to buy posted in the MP and someone PMed me saying they had the doll I was looking for. She sent pictures and I sent my money to her. Then I waited for her to ship her out.... and waited... and waited.
Turns out she was flipping the doll, and she was waiting for it to arrive to her! She had used the original sellers photos. Stupid me should have asked for a photo with the sellers name on a piece of paper or something. Lesson learned.

The original seller found out as was so POed that she almost did not send the doll to the the person I bought it from, but in the end she did.

So my doll journeyed from the US, to Canada, and then FINALLY to me... at a $100 markup!

To top it all off... when I opened her up there was a FREAKING HUGE COCKROACH in her box!!! A LIVE three inch long COCKROACH!!!
So the first thing I had to do was take my doll apart and clean her.... well after disposing of the roach of course.
      Fun times....

Oh, and the person I bought her from was banned shortly afterwards... I did not even get to leave my feedback.

    11. This is going to give me nightmares:shudder The only thing that would have made it worse is if it has been a spider...

@ichelintan: What a terrible experience:( When you say your box was filled with candy bars and ants, is that all that was in there or did you even get your doll?

    12. I've finally got my doll but a lot of worst stuff happened before then.
I'll come back to write part two. This really gave me big headache T__T Like, people at the post office was really messed up!!! Super duper messed up...

    13. Worst doll experience is i got addicted to a scuplt that every time i get home i would open my computer and search for that site over and over again for a month, but thank god i got over the addiction. but now im having a really hard time on deciding what sculpt to get tho.

    14. It makes me so sad that there are people out there that just don't care for others things. Also, that's really f'ed up that customs/the post would even do that, even if it was on accident! I would like to hear the rest of the story though.

I have been in the hobby a little over half a year so not much bad has happened yet. One thing that happened though was when I gave my first BJD a new faceup. I had sprayed MSC on her headcap and then put my different chalk pastels and paints on it to see what I liked with the skin tone and when I went to wash it off with brush cleaner and then water and soap after the head cap started to peal back a layer of resin. I freaked and frantically washed it under the sink as good as I could and it stopped. It's a bit stained but nothing a bit of sanding can't fix. I am now kinda afraid to remove the faceup. I think it was the paint thinner that did it...I know how to use it now though so this wont happen again. Luckily the head can be replaced cheaply if I decided to. I don't think I'd try to sell her head she has now though, I might try my hand at modding it if something else happens. We all learn right? I sure did.

    15. Going to my first dollie convention, bringing along my brand new doll, and working hard on a face-up for her at the DIY face-up workshop table for over an hour. I got her looking just how I wanted, was super happy about it, and had just gotten her head back on and her wig put on and started walking around...

When some girl came up to me and went, "Ewww, she's DIRTY! Oh, those are FRECKLES? Wow, is that your first face-up? No? Wowwww... well, you can go look over at that table there, the doll there is my first face-up, maybe you can get some pointers."

I was so shocked at someone being such an absolute #$&%#% at me for no reason that I didn't even say anything, just stared at her and walked off. I wish I'd stomped on her foot or something. Instead, I just stuffed my doll in my bag, and went home, and scrubbed off the face-up I'd previously been so happy with.

It really put me off the hobby for quite a while, and has me not really wanting to go to a convention again, which kind of sucks as I really would like to sell the doll I'm sculpting, and having a convention presence would be helpful. But I've heard of too much crazy, and I'm -still- mad about it.

    16. My Iplehouse Ashanti fell off the sofa, face-planted into the floor and pieces went flying off her. Luckily, they turned out to be the beads from the bracelet she was wearing (it's the one the limited Ashanti is wearing in Iple's photos), I haven't tried to fix the bracelet yet, the beads are still in a china bowl on the sideboard.

    17. Recent experience. I ordered my RS Mei through a US-based company on Dec. 18th. Stalked her tracking number. She was listed as delivered as of Christmas Eve- when I was home at my parents' for the holidays. Naturally I panicked and emailed my landlady. She assured me it would be OK. I get back, there is no package. Go to two different post offices: no package. Call the regional office: no package. Call USPS: no package. It's like she evaporated. I've started the insurance process to recover my money, but still. My guess is someone saw the word 'doll' on her box and decided she'd be a nice Christmas gift.

    18. I live in South Africa, so any doll experience that links to shipping or customs is the worst doll experience ever XD

    19. well I'm glad i'm not the only one to have a nightmare with Souldoll.

I ordered a souldoll amy over the winter event. I was going to make her into a blue and white snow sprite and the white outfit that they were including would have been perfect. I knew it was going to be a while because of how busy they were. I paid in full and waited... after a few weeks i checked and it hadn't been updated yet. Didn't think much about it until I get an email....

an email stating that unless I paid for my order, my order would be cancelled. :o So after freaking out because they post that any cancelled order would result in a 20% non refundable fee and store credit only, I contacted them to try and find out what was going on. They kept saying I had to pay for my order... so I went to paypal for help. BTW this was the first time I had ordered a doll from an actual company....

Paypal finally got things sorted out. There had been another order from someone else attached to my file. It was a male doll and at the time, I only wanted female dolls. They had attached that order to my account! Well after going back and forth about how I did NOT order the second doll, they just refunded my money and cancelled my order. I'm very sad I didn't get amy, but after all that drama, I just couldn't deal with the company at the time... I may try again in the futre...

    20. Mine kind of happened with my first doll ever. I picked her up at a convention, because I had sold a bunch of stuff at the con's flea market, and just happened to stumble across her. She was gorgeous. Instant love. So I paid for her and all that stuff, and then the people turn around and go "can you give us five minutes, we gotta pack her up" and pull out her box, which was crushed and split at the edges. D: They had to put tape all over the poor girl. I was mad. They also then proceeded to tell me that it would be better if I wandered the con and come pick her up later. Uh, no. I just gave you money, I am not leaving. > >

Second was last week with restringing two of my friend's dolls. I didn't want to do it, and my restringing tool tore my finger open. Pretty deep too. Not deep enough for stitches, but pretty darn close. And she still made me finish. OTL
