WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. Officially the worse thing happened! I tried to wire him and I did a crappy job...IT CHIPPED THE TOP OF HIS KNEE!!!!!!!!

    2. I have to say, some of the stories in here are so incredibly sad ._. I'm sorry that any has to go through such horrible things! I've been in the hobby for some years now and haven't had too many bad things happen (I'm extremely cautious with my girls) Except one bad instance with my DZ Morphoa (My pride and joy). I had her sitting on my dresser with the drawer open so she could put her feet in there. I was in my room and all of a sudden this HUGE DRESSER just fell over BY ITSELF! With her on it! I watched the dresser fall over in pure horror and ran to get it off of her. I checked all over her everywhere and by some miracle she didn't have a scratch on her, and her faceup was perfect and intact! I was amazed, but no dolls ever sit on that phantom dresser anymore! Gave me a heart attack, she's my only SD and the doll that I oggled after for years before I was finally able to get into the hobby, I'd have been so devastated if something happened to her! :(

    3. I recently found that my pukifee Zoe with a default faceup who I've had for quite a while has what looks like an oil spot on one cheek, and also a weird dark-almost-black smudge on her nose - right on the tip. I cried for like an hour, and then put my big girl panties on, checked that it wasn't oil on her cheek (as yet no idea what it is, but it hasn't changed at all so that's a good sign), and found you can't see it in photos at all. The black smudge you can kinda see, but only if it's pointed out, and my partner helpfully pointed out it kinda suited her since she's meant to be a little messy ratbag who rushes around climbing into things she shouldn't  So that was good.

Then there's the standard doll falls suddenly and your heart hits the floor cause you're so scared they'll break, and then they're fine but you won't let them anywhere they could fall for like a week, and then you get back to feeling normal about them and you don't keep them wrapped in bubble wrap in drawers, and then the whole process starts again *headdesk*

I did have one pretty unhappy experience which wasn't anything at all to do with my dolls themselves, but someone I let see them/play with them. I had been friends with this guy for a while, and he was one of the only people who I let play with my dolls with me cause I'm usually pretty private about them just cause of how my other friends had reacted (they aren't mean, they just think I'm a bit weird). But this guy had always been sweet about them, and really enjoyed hanging out with them with me. And then like a month later I found out he was a really, really, really awful person (not going to say, but yeah...think really awful), and I felt like I'd put my dolls in harms way by letting him play with them. I didn't do anything with them for almost a month afterwards, maybe two, because I felt like I'd betrayed them. Which is a little silly, but it was really hard for a while. We're all better now though, and my MNF is coming to Wellington with me next month to see my mother in law :)

    4. A long time ago, when I was in Uni, I got scammed by a friend--yes, a FRIEND--who was supposed to help me buy a doll back in the day when I had no PayPal or no credit card of my own yet. I paid her off, she paid the company via PayPal, and so all I had to do was wait.

Unfortunately, she messaged me more than a few months (no communication for about two months), later saying she had issues with PayPal. The funds were withdrawn from her account, but did not make it to LUTS. At least, that's what she told me. She said she'd pay me off, which I understood because I didn't want to antagonize our friendship by making a big mess of it.

That was way back in college. I'm twenty-two now, and she still hasn't paid me a single cent since then. Recently, she told me that her mother had many hospital bills to pay, so her budget could not accommodate what she owes me and what she owes other people. Thankfully, she's still replying and has promised to pay me off bit by bit starting next month. She seems sincere about it, but I'm not hoping for much, especially since she lives in a different country now.

    5. Ya, it's not buyer remorse, it's I don't "bond" with him/her. I've had that happen to me too. You are not alone.

    6. Idk if this counts but I was sitting my 2 SD girls together to see how much bigger my new 70cm girl was and when I went to stand my AoD girl, Alice up on my nightstand I noticed one of her eyelashes was missing. Idk how it could have happened, b/c she spends all her time in her box with a faceup protector on wrapped in her pillow. Only time that faceup protector comes off is when I have her out for like an hour or so tops. Or all night as she "watches over me" from my nightstand. So my logic was that well she's gonna need another one and they gotta match, so I grabbed her other one and pulled it right off lol. The worst thing about this story is....I suck at putting eyelashes on so who knows when Alice will get eyelashes again :(

    7. Not knowing where the **** a doll is. I ordered my boy Lennox from RS on 21 Jan. He shipped 4 March, and the tracking stopped updating on the 7th. I waited for 20 freaking days, and this was supposed to be EMS. I almost considered him lost, but he did show up - ResinSoul's website is a bitch to understand, so didn't know where to write the name of my city, so it was never written on the parcel itself. The postal services had only my ZIP code to go by! xD I even got a call from customs, asking me which city I lived in so they could deliver it, pfft.

    8. My 'worst' dolly experience is pretty tame... it's just watching releases go by and knowing that the right thing for me to do is let them pass me by.

The number of Soom Limited Editions I've loved but skipped is huge - Arkose in Purple, Epidia in Dark Brown, Quartz in Blue, Beauty, Garnet... on and on.

I know it's the responsible thing to do, both because I have no more room for dolls and because I can't justify spending so much money on just one hobby anymore... but it is still sad to list the list of What Might Have Been growing all the time.

    9. I have a horror story and a half related to doll buying woes.
When I first started going out with my boyfriend, we called each other all the time. About twice a day (we're going on 2 and a half years now and I have lost count of how many times we talk now, but that aside). I had a great time moving off my old pay-as-you go phone contact, though I spent some £90 ($140) on calls past my credit. I was furious. But the worst was yet to come. I changed company and moved onto a set contract, and settled for what I deemed a reasonable call limit, and unlimited texts. Over the next month, I was charged over £300 (about $460) by the company for calls over the limit. I had at that point been going on to my parents about dolls for about 2 years, and I believe they were beginning to understand (I never got allowance as a kid, so I had to fully rely on my parents' financial backing when it came to monetary affairs) why I was so into the hobby. This was a horrible experience for me, and, though not directly related to the actual purchase of a doll, I think this was why they refrained from giving me appropriate funds for a whole other year due to this incident.

I've read the previous cases, and there are some that really got to me. My heart goes out to you people who have suffered through a cruel twist of fate.

    10. I had just gotten one out of two of my dream dolls, he also happened to be my first doll. A Leekeworld Khal <3 I actually got him on the marketplace just in time! Other people had their eyes on him too >.> Anyway, before he had a body I would sit with his head and admire it. One day when I was admiring his beautiful face, I noticed a big black mark across his forehead (thank god not on his faceup). As it turned out, I had accidentally scraped my black nail polished finger across his face, and in my panic I did it twice more. I sent a panicked text to my friend about it (she's been in the hobby for a while) and she told me to use a magic eraser. I had none. So my poor darling had to sit a whole month with black on his face before I remembered to get the magic eraser. I'm sooooo happy it's gone now though. Thank god I'm not stupid enough to play with sharpie while playing with him!

    11. A similar thing happened to me with my first doll! Only it was my friend, the very day I got him...she got her dark blue nail polish on his face! In my ignorance I used nail-polish remover to get it off >.<

I'm so surprised he hasn't just disintegrated thanks to my noobish stupidity in handling him back in the day....Dollmore makes 'em tough. He's been through pole-smashings, sun-sittings, and plenty of face-plants XD

    12. I'm so glad your dolly has survived some mishaps. I have to say I read nail polish remover and actually gasped out loud. My dog gave me a weird look.

    13. I've seen something done that has just made me cringe, wasn't to my own doll and has opened my eyes that I would never let this person hold any of my dolls now either. Happened a few years ago, I got a Tiny BBB for a very close friend as a late Xmas gift, and that same year I took her with me to a con, now I got her a whole care kit and little bag and everything so there was no excuse for this, as we left the hotel room, I took my tiny BBB and my DZ Yume with me, she grabbed her doll and instead of just carrying it or even taking the tiny bag she stuffed the doll into her jean shorts pocket, which was tight and it just made me cringe every time she walked cause you could just see the doll so clearly. I kinda hinted that maybe she sould show the doll or at least use the bag but she didn't get the hint apparently. Really opened my eyes on who to allow to touch/carry my dolls let alone who to buy a doll for. I haven't seen her in a while let alone that doll so I even wonder if the doll even survived which makes me a little sad.

    14. Thank you to everyone who expressed their concern and well wishes regarding my horrific story, Arashi Uchiha, Ajee, Cosmosprincess, kaschan502, Knibitz I really appreciate it :)

    15. So far I haven't had anything bad happen to my collection yet *knocks on wood*. The only bad experience I had was with the master sculpt of Puck I was finishing: his head was completely done - it was primed, polished and everything -, when it decided to take a tumble of the table right on his face. His nose was totally squashed and I had to start over -_-.

    16. OMG Belladonna, That was so horrifying I could cry.

Recently I was going to get cosplay fabric with friends. I noticed my doll's headcap was a little loose despite the silicone cap he had. So I thought it was a bad idea to carry him like usual and decided to put him in the bag for safety. Well he had managed to hover up and out of my sealed bag on the subway tracks T.T I'm lucky all that was lost was his headcap, wig and goggles. But now he's been sitting here with half a head. So now I need to make him a new one, since I found out he was discontinued and DIM can't replace it :C

    17. In all the years I've been collecting I've only had two bad experiences. One was when a doll arrived with a completely different face-up than the one he was shown with. He was a full-set so I expected him to look just like what was pictured. I tried to copy the intended face-up but it never looked right so I ended up selling him to someone who loved the face-up I had done.

Another was with a buyer who claimed the doll I sold her wasn't the same doll I'd pictured & that she wouldn't pose at all. Well, I'd taken photos of the doll outside in morning light which is supposed to show the truest colors. Then she took a pic under incandescent lights indoors & of course the doll looked completely different but it simply wasn't a fair comparison. So I let her trade for another doll but she wanted to see him in all sorts of poses, so I took at least a half dozen shots for her. She traded the first doll in & seemed happy with the second but complained about the wig I'd sent him in & I'd even let her pic the color. Crazy thing was when I got the first doll back, I had her standing & posing within minutes. Oh well, I guess you just can't please some people.

    18. My worst is probably my most recent order for my two Chiclines. First Ineffa's hand came off in the packaging and cracked, then when I decided to do their faceups a while later Rou had a broken head connector! I did get a replacement hand but it was a while before I discovered the head connector problem. Luckily my bf has an arsenal of plastic glues. Really Fairyland should do a little more bubble wrapping on those Chiclines, they can bounce around in the foam forms so much.

    19. Seriously if I could give you a big hug right now I would. I'm so glad it all turned out well in the end. If that happened to Avalon even though he's just an RS Song..I'd be heartbroken.

(And that guy would find himself with slashed tires very...VERY fast... )

    20. I think the worst experience I ever had regarded another DoA member selling me my dream doll, Volks Suiseiseki, so many years ago. I had many opportunities to get a Suiseiseki but I wanted a specific one so I kept postponing purchasing her. When this Suiseiseki's third owner put her for sale, I immediately recognized her as the Suiseiseki I so direly wanted for so long and immediately purchased her - I adored her face-up, it was perfect, and I loved everything about her. She was my grail.

When arrived, it was obvious the person who sent her didn't take much care in wrapping her - literally, she was wrapped in flimsy paper and taped shut with my address on it, there was nothing else protecting her. I had wanted this Suiseiseki for so long and when she came to me, her face-up had several nasty scratches because of this poor packaging.

This was years ago and I was so ecstatic about obtaining her that I didn't confront the seller, I was grateful she was in my price range (the seller wanted to get rid of her quickly, by making this rash sale) and couldn't believe she was the grail Suiseiseki. To me, what was done was done and no money I could potentially get from the seller's obvious poor packaging could fix Suiseiseki and make her look the way she was before shipping. But as time passes on, I always look at her face-up and notice chips of it missing beneath those beautiful brows I loved so much, and it makes me upset that it could have been prevented had she packaged the doll with love and care.

Because she was the exact dream Suiseiseki I wanted for so long and I've contacted several face-up artists about patching up said areas only to be told it's not possible without stripping her entire face-up, I keep her that way with the chips of missing face-up and don't regret my purchase but I'm so sad that she was so mishandled before arriving into my household.

I also take extra care when I package and ship out my own items beyond what other individuals may do, because I know the heartbreak of a doll not coming as you wished it had, especially a grail doll. At this point I'm just grateful to have this particular Suiseiseki and attempt to cover up the chipped spots with bangs parted to the side of her face.
