WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. My worst experience was ordering about $200 worth of clothes/wig from an online store last November and having it never come. I tried contacting the company multiple times but they have not responded, the tracking number given to me does not work, and its too late for a paypal dispute so I'm pretty sure I'm out of luck.

    2. It's never too late when it comes to paypal. You just need to have proof and be a VERY squeaky wheel.

I've heard you can boil dented parts and they will pop back into shape. Maybe you can get new hands for her and fix her? I'd hate for you to miss out on a great doll who seems to be pretty fix-able.

    3. One or two of y'all might have seen my story on the DZ wait thread.

Earlier in November I ordered a Mr. Bunny and Miss Kitty head from Dollzone after obsessing over them for months. The english rep was a sweetie and everything was golden. Paid it off and got my tracking number. A few days after Christmas a package arrives, it has my tracking number on it. The postman mumbled something incoherent about "two tracking numbers" and ran off. I shrugged and skipped off to the kitchen to open my doll heads.

They weren't my doll heads! Inside the package was an insanely expensive amount of Louis Vuitton. Panicked I thought to myself "well maybe the doll heads are inside the bag, like some new kind of marketing..." I opened all the bags and shook them but only those little fresheners came out. Then I just lost it much to amusement and dismay of my family.

After weeks of calling the post office and emailing DZ I finally got replacements for the heads. Dollzone was really sweet about the whole ordeal but I still feel squeamish about ordering from China anytime soon. Some ditz in customs put the wrong customs form on the wrong packages and that's how I ended up with all those purses.

I never did find the original heads and have been told that they are probably lost to the black hole that is the Mail Recovery Center. Apparently the MRC is this big secret because no one working in the post offices (not even the regional inspector) would give me their phone number. BTW if you've never heard of the MRC, that's where they auction off all the lost mail...that's right the government sells off your lost mail to the highest bidder. God Bless America :|

    4. That's a fear of mine too. I have a habit of not useing stands for some of my dolls (because I only have about 1 stand) and once one of my dolls took a nose-dive into the middle of a ballroom scene set up for a meet, where there were a dozen or so dolls "dancing". Most of which were Volks and a couple Soom LEs D:

The doll had more sense than I do -- he managed to miss all the dancing couples completely and took out a dessert tray instead (who can blame him?!), but I about had a heart-attack. This was a few years ago, but I still freak a little when I so much as think about the damage that could have caused!

    5. The worst for me personally is when I accidentally broke the finger off on my Doll Zone Clare x.x I was trying to put the gloves on her that came with her default outfit and it just snapped off in my hand T^T I got mad since nothing was working for me so finally I sent her out to a trusted friend and had her fix it for me and cover the crack with a ring since the whole finger had broke off. It's fine now but I was a complete mess when it had happened.

    6. the person who do face up for my doll one day told me she couldnt find my doll's head..
at that time i nearly screamed..
fortunately she found it..after many days
days i was waiting is so terrible!!!!

    7. Actually it is. After 45 days they just close any claim automatically. If you don't pay via balance you can contact your bank to get it refunded.

I think the worst for me was when I bought a Minifee Miyu head and she never arrived. I was so sad as I thought the head was lost to the void but I kept waiting for her thinking it was just a delay, and then she arrived back to the seller who said the PO told her my address was wrong (it wasn't) so I had to cancel the sale and get a refund because I didn't want to pay for more expensive shipping to assure it got here and my address was correct so it didn't make sense why it got returned. I don't trust Italy post anymore as I honestly think it didn't even make it to the UK. *_*

    8. Now I want to know, what did you do with all those purses? 0_x; Did you get to keep them?

    9. Since I'm very new to the hobby and only have one doll so far, I don't really have many bad experiences yet, but I did drop her headplate (the one you remove to put in the eyes, not sure what it's called) and I really couldn't find it... And to make it worse, I had my pet rats out of their cage for free-roaming, and I just panicked and thought that if they'd find it and chew it, they'd die or something, since I've heard that resin is toxic or something. So I started looking for it, put all the rats I could find in their cage, but then found it under the couch, like 2 minutes later, after all the panicking... xD Also my girl fell on the table while I tried to pose her in a certain way, and I was sure she'd fall on the floor, but she didn't! *phew*

    10. In only a year in this hobby and I've had serval bad incidents. The first doll I bought had scratches on the faceup so I wiped it off. That was also the case for a Littlefee I got and her head was droopy so I had to restring her. I had a doll I spent over $600 get lost from France and the owner compensated me with a lati head, clothes and wig.

    11. That sounds like a rough intro to the hobby D:

My worst doll experience with a few years under my belt would be when I was first starting out not reading into resin as much and doing some tattoos I can't take off :P but you live and learn!

    12. After I made a customised dress...... it was black and the fabric was far from the top quality.

My doll slept in the dress and the next morning.... Her skin got bruise (?) everywhere. I could not cure her but still love her.

    13. Luckily, I haven't had many (read: any) bad experiences yet since I'm fairly new to this hobby. I've had a few hiccups but it's nothing compared to the stories I've read in here. *_* But I'm sure that will change eventually.

So far, I've had one pair of eyes from an eBay seller get lost in the mail, but the seller was extremely pleasant and we worked out a compromise that resulted in me getting a coupon to their store at the same value.

My "worst" experience thus far was when first and only doll faceplanted himself on my dresser while I was trying to get him dressed and he ended up getting a big chip off of his blushing. It was right at the top of his cheek too, very noticeable. So after some humming and hawing, I got some supplies and decided I was going to retouch it. I wanted to get into doing face ups anyway, though I had hoped that I would have had more practice under my belt before having to do something like this.
I was a bit nervous to do it, since I couldn't get a hold of any MSC without waiting forever or possibly having it seized by customs, so I picked up some Testors Dullcote which I was a little wary of. I know it's under the "tried, tested, and true" category on DoA but it's cons versus other not-MSC brands made me feel a bit iffy. The man at the store I bought it from swore on his 40 years of modelling that it was good for any surface, though I don't think he realized what I was using it on, but since I didn't have any other choice at the time, I got it.
After testing it out on Ardese's head cap and saw nothing bad happened, I went to work. I managed to cover up the chip fairly well, though it was still noticeable since the edges of it were so crisp against the darkness of the blush. But it was acceptable. This morning, I took him out of his box (the touch up was a couple of days ago) and realized that in natural morning light, his cheeks were SO red. I always thought his blushing was a bit too dark from the beginning anyway, but this was worse. Like, "thoroughly embarrassed anime character" red, which was a bit upsetting. So tonight, I did more pastel layering and lightened them up significantly. Now his cheeks look normal AND the chip is even less visible. So it all turned out in the end. :) It was a bit of an experience though.

    14. I think the worst doll experience I ever had was when I lost the first incarnation of Megumi. Well, I didn't lose her; she was stolen, along with her carrying case and all of her stuff.

I replaced her, of course, and the character isn't the physical doll, but my conception of her...but still, I lost things I can never replace for her when that little purple case was stolen, and I was heartsick for weeks afterward.

    15. My worst experience is when I sent my two brand new dolls to a face up artist and they not only did the work sloppy and not at all what I asked for, they even charged me double, saying if I didn't they won't send back the doll. I lost so much money and ended up removing the faceups as soon as I got home and just did them myself. Later on, I find out that they actually posted face ups other people did and only "enhanced" them.

    16. I have a few in my nearly eight years. One being a piece of limited edition clothing I bought from someone in the marketplace getting either stollen or lost between making it to my post office and delivery to me.

The other is the worst is nightmare of many here. One of my dolls ended up under a pile of stuff on a chair. It was a point in time where I really did not have an organized space for them to be. While reorganizing our little apartment I found her and her wig had been completely eaten away, destroyed. Not to mention there were remnants of bugs in her. She was always floppy but now her strings are practically useless. I still need to find the string I have and restring her. From that experience I now have my dolls all safely in view and on two different dressers.

    17. This happened because the fabric had excess dye on it still, which was then absorbed by the resin, which results in a bruise like stain. It SHOULD be savable, though, there's plenty of threads around the forum about stain removal and resin, so I suggest you take a look! I know most people are able to save their dolls just by using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the affected areas, so I recommend you give that a try! If that doesn't work, there are various cleaners you can also try.

I've been in the hobby since '07, and I count myself lucky to have been relatively un-plagued by bad experiences besides a now ex-husband that was very derogatory of my hobby (not why I divorced him, but it certainly didn't help things). My dolls have had their fair share of falls, but luckily never anything that has resulted in a break, and only one or two cases of mildly damaged face-ups.
*knocks vigorously on the nearest bit of wood*
My worst experience happened at the end of last year when I fell victim to a scam, along with a few other people. I bought a ltf from someone who, it turns out, also sold it to another user, and also had sever incomplete trades/sales with other users on top of that. Unfortunately, a paging thread about this didn't come to my attention until the next day @__@ The seller wasn't actually being paged until the day after I sent payment, which was unfortunate, or I never would have bought from them. They didn't have any feedback, but I remembered a time when I, too, didn't have any feedback, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went with it anyways. Really, alarm bells should have been going off when they offered a discount without me even having to haggle *rolls eyes at self*.
Still, for all I got shafted, I reported them quickly enough to Paypal when it became clear that their tracking number was a fake, and I saw the paging thread, so I was able to get all my money back in full. It worked out for the best, actually, as I found a much prettier ltf for the same price just a few days later! ^__^

    18. Dunno if this counts, but I was at a craft store looking for things to make for my Lati Yellow, and this woman saw my doll. She started talking to me about it and how she saw them on T.V. The conversation was interesting until she told me about how the show she was watching was about fetishes. My face was so red! I'm holding this little doll that looks very much like a child- possibly even an infant- and she thinks it's a fetish!? Oh lord, no...

    19. O.o...wow... I really wonder if it was in fact BJDs that she saw on that show... and if so... wth?? How in the world is a BJD a fetish? LOL!

    20. Whoa! Did you get the impression she was talking about a show on, like, sexual fetishes? Or did she mean "obsession" but just used the word "fetish"? Did she get BJDs confused with RealDolls? :ablink:
