WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. I thought my mail fiasco from before was bad but this Saturday I had my worst nightmare happen. My car got towed with a majority of my doll collection in the backseat! Luckily my boyfriend was a huge help in getting my car back. The towing company was really creepy and suspicious looking. As soon as the extremely rude window lady let me in the lot I grabbed my dolls. Got a whole Navy worth of swearing from her for it too. Tough luck lady! I totally wasn't about to leave my doll crew in the middle of Thugville! Luckily after lots of swearing, shouting and glaring I got my car back too.

I'm totally going to complain to the people who towed me and have them reimburse me the fee. I was wrongly towed. Luckily no one got injured dolls, car and humans included. Still I'm going to have nightmares about that place for months.

Unfortunately no, DZ wanted a proof of return in order to send me replacements so I had to return the items and have the mailman make up an official looking form for me. The US doesn't have return forms apparently...which is super lame. Plus the district mail inspector was breathing down my neck to return them too, so no purses for me.

    2. for me the worst moment would be, after changing a doll's faceup, all the stuff that fit her previous style don't go well with the new faceup = =|||

    3. I'm new on this hobby as since August 2013.

So far, everything is good. I keep my first doll, Chiyo. This year I decided to take in few dolls as her family/friend.

I don't have any worst experience but bad experience, yes.

Lesson is , never use normal mail for delivery. I purchased second hand shoe from a girl in Singapore. Took me like 1 month to reach here and the address was at my working place. The postman doesn't send directly to me, instead he put in letter box.

It surprised me when she packed with just normal paper envelope without good seal (e.g wrapped with tapes). She just taped with the envelope glue. What happened was when I opened the envelope, NOTHING IS THERE. This mean the shoe was stolen/lost during shipping.

I talked to her regarding this and I got blamed for not choosing the insurance one and she refused to compensate. I got angry because I told her you at least should feel bad for not sealed the package properly till someone could easily stole the content without the postman notice the lost.

The issue is end by I wrote bad feedback on her and I just let it go and accept this loss.

    4. Oh man...
right after i ordered my little boy Max, and opened his box i took him upstairs to sit with me while my friend was doing her mother's hair. I was being dumb and had him sitting on the lip of the bathtub, i swear i turned for ONE second and that little brat had fallen over!

Right onto hard tile, i almost started crying but luckily he ended up falling right on his but and his head snapped back up to look at me.
      Almost like saying
      "Dad really?"

I started laaughing so hard i couldn't breath. XD

    5. I just had the craziest 12 hours. Yesterday I got my first doll in the mail. She's a planetdoll Roseanne in tan. I got to know her a bit last night and it ended up getting time to go to bed. So I put my doll in her box next to my bed and I went to sleep. I woke up at 2am because I heard stuff falling over. Now I had also just gotten a new kitten today also named Tako. We already have on cat named Elliott and they had been fighting all day. Lo and behold the cats had knocked over something while they were fighting. I look over and Tako was on top of my doll hissing and fighting with Elliot. Elliott charged and started attacking Tako so I had to pull them apart. So now Tako is still on my doll, Elliot is staring her down, and Tako had just pooped out of fear. I had to spray Tako with water to get her off of my doll. I put my doll in my bed next to me so Tako didn't mess her up further and I cleaned up the mess. Me and my mom end up putting Tako in her carrying bag and put her next to my bed. The only thing is that the bag doesn't close all the way but it didn't seem like a big problem then.
I woke up this morning and everything seemed ok. Tako had gotten out of her bag and was playing/hiding under my clothes rack. I went to take a shower and when I came back Tako was playing on my bed. I played with her a bit and then when I went to put my doll away she was covered in cat pee. Tako had peed on my brand new doll. So I had to completely strip my bed and and wash everything. I still love Tako though but I'm pretty bummed that she peed on my new dolly.

    6. Terrasplorer; That sucks! I'm so sorry! Just to make sure, you unstrung her and washed the elastics, right? I'd hate for them to mold or something and make things even harder for you!

    7. kurosu.chan, I haven't been able to unstring her yet just due to having a event I had to be at pretty early in the morning. I'm going to unstring her when I get back and give her a nice cleaning with some disinfectant.

    8. I’ve been reading through the entire thread and oh my gosh so many horror stories out there O.o

Not much have happened to me, from what I can remember....

      1. I bought my first doll second hand, and I was a complete newbie and kind of bought him on impulse, and newbie as I was I didn’t know or ask for anything, so I got him in a Luts box (he's a Bobobie), no certificate, and with a head that was completely yellow, almost orange, with a rather normal skin body. It looks horrible, but he has a lovely face up and pretty clothing, so I don’t really think of it, except it can really be shown on pictures…. But yeah, my fault, and I have since then learned my lesson.

      2. The other has to do with shipping, and probably my worst, and from earlier this year. I was putting my order for the limited Luts Yul Satyros, and put everything in, chose everything I wanted, added face-up and clothing and all that, and went on to pay. Error with paypal. I quickly asked them about what to do, and they said, in a really confusing English, to sort of send the money to their paypal email. Without writing the email, or in any way explaining how they would know it was me who paid, so I asked them again, and they finally replied with a certain email address and the correct way to pay, and I do as they say. One week passes… Two weeks passes… I check progress, and see that the status hasn't changed to that they have received the money, and also that apparently some of the things I ordered, as well as face-up, wasn’t in the order?? So, once again I ask them, if they have received my payment, and also if I could add face-up? They answer and say that no, we haven’t received any payment! I check paypal, and see that they haven’t claimed the money. At this point I was starting to get really frustrated, and in the end ended up cancelling my order, retrieving the paypal money they hadn’t claimed, and ended up re-doing my entire order, and paying immediately through paypal, which went through, finally.
After that, they said he would ship around the middle of January, which they didn't... And after that it was just excuse after excuse, telling me ”he will ship within 2 weeks”. He ended up being shipped around 2.5 months after they said he would ship, and arrived this Monday. It was crazy, and I am not happy or willing to buy from Luts again, even though I love my Yul to bits <3

      3. Oh and that time when I was expecting two dolls the same day, from two different companies. I had the tracking numbers, and knew that they would show up at the post office that day (in Sweden, or at least where I live, they never ever deliver big packages to the door, but then it is never far to the nearest postal office handler, like the nearest convenience store). So I wait, and update like every hour. I get the slips of paper in the mail saying that the packages have been forwarded to the post office, and come and get them this and this time, and so I head off. When there, I have to tell them the tracking number, and so I do for the first one. She isn’t there. Okay, the other then? Not there. I’m like, but it said? I got the slips! Apparently, the big truck who carries all the packages had forgotten one sack with packages, and BOTH my dolls were in that one forgotten sack!!! And I was going away to work for a few weeks, and the travel time would be really long and annoying, with two heavy doll boxes to carry… And the post office wouldn’t know until after 4pm if the sack would find its right way back again, so I had to head off to work…. The next day the tracking kept changing to ”deliverd” and ”not delivered” but in the end I picked them up a few days later, after I even called them to make sure that they had arrived. So damn annoying, but I don’t blame anyone, because they were pretty apologetic and quick about fixing it so :)

      4. I remembered more xD This number is about face-ups, and I still don't blame anyone (I'm seriously too nice for my own good xD) but yeah, so my first boy was going to have a new face-up done and so I happily ship him off. It took a little while, but in the end he was greatly done and I love his face-up to bits, BUT. The face-up'er lost his eyes.... I said that it was okay, even though I was pretty sad about it, but I found another pair of awesome eyes and that was that. Fast forward to a year later, and she actually found his eyes! So now he has two pairs of beautiful green-glowing eyes xD The other one was when I shipped off my dragon to be painted, and when he came back all the paint just rubbed off on anything he touched, it was as if he wasn't sealed at all! It was kind of sad, and I ended up painting him myself, with the help of a friend, and we sealed him great. Don't know what happened, but it all turned out great :) I might ship my little dragon off in the future for a repaint with airbrush or something, but it can wait :)

    9. @ The Raven & Columbia:

If My Little Pony, a KIDS' show, is now made into a sick fetish then with BJDs, it's not surprising :/ *sigh*

    10. @Chamillia

The majority of adult/male fans of My Little Pony aren't sick weirdos...

There's weirdos/extremists in every hobby. Rule #34: If it exists, there is porn of it. I don't like it but it's just the way it goes.

    11. The crappiest thing thats ever happened to me was when I first got into the hobby. I was on ebay looking at dolls, and fell in love with a hound being sold. I had seen the exact same doll listed here on DoA and figured the seller had just decided to list him on ebay. I was a little iffy about some of the information on ebay, so I contacted the member here. I was not as specific as I should have been, and instead of being upfront about my concerns, tried to be "stealthy" about my questions. The answers I received seemed satisfactory, so I purchased the doll from the seller on ebay, even though the listing had ended. I was stupid, and sent almost $600 through a money order... Never saw the doll, or my money. That was a hard lesson learned.

    12. When I bought a Volks msd Midori and whipped her face up off. Oh man I had so much regret..I've sold her and bought a new one because I only wanted the Volks face up.

Oh and another one. I forgot the password from my paypal account. Sold a doll on ebay, paid by buyer but I forgot to add my new account. So I cound't get the money and had much problems with paypal to got my money back. Then the doll was also lost in the mail, buyer did a claim,my money was gone. But at the end she was found and I had my money back. I'll never sell on ebay again!

    13. I didn't read all the posts to this thread, but certainly enough to get an education on many issues & preventative actions to take or avoid. "Good judgment comes from experience.. and experience in many cases comes from bad judgment!" And it's much cheaper to learn from other people's experiences!

My one incident occurred at home under ordinary circumstances. My wife & I were costuming SD16 Johanna and another for photos. Johanna was wigless at time. She started to tip in the stand (her feet were not making full contact with the stand base) and I shot my hand out to keep her from smacking down on the table. The force of my contact with the doll knocked the head cap free, and so I tried to catch it with the other hand. My grasping fingers only succeeded in launching the head cap higher. There followed a brief mad scrabbling stretching with Johanna in one hand trailing a snagging dollstand and a near juggling effect with the escaping head cap. Each contact with it seemed to accelerate it until it escaped my reach. I watched it's parabolic upward arc & descent to the hard tile floor where it bounced several times before coming to rest. We discovered that the head plate and magnet were knocked loose (recovered)...but there wasn't a chip, crack, or scratch on the head cap! Quite a range of emotions experienced in a sliver of time.

    14. HAHA that's actually pretty funny, I bet it was an accusing look  Good to see that he fell on his bum and had no harm to his face. That's actually one of my worst doll fears, having them fall or having any kind of damage to their face/faceup :( I see you like DikaDolls, I'm planning on getting one in the future as well, I love their sculpts!

    15. Finding out that daily exposure to fluorescent light over a period of three months has the same effect on resin as throwing your doll in a sunny backyard and leaving him there over the weekend. Several dolls in the vicinity of the lights got some minor damage but the worst was my irreplaceable limited MNF Elf Shiwoo with a custom Luts faceup being so unevenly yellowed on his uncovered parts that he is essentially ruined. I haven't played with him since and I still don't know what to do because as far as I know there's no way to fix a really unevenly yellowed doll. I've thought about selling him at a discount just so I don't have to look at him anymore but he was an anniversary gift from my husband and it would hurt his feelings. If Fairyland ever did a re-release of the MNF elves I'd replace him in a heartbeat. :(

    16. Reshanna, while it's generally not people's first choice of action for yellowed dolls, you CAN sand him, which will take off that yellowed layer of resin and expose the original color below. I believe there are bleaching tutorials around, and dying them is always an option too! In all scenarios you'd have to remove his face up, but I'm sure that'd be preferable to getting rid of a precious gift from a loved one.

    17. Here... maybe this thread will help ^^
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...e-zombification-Serum-Resin-Color-Restoration

    18. @Hakari-chan:
I tried sanding him when I first discovered it but it didn't seem to shift the color. I think the yellowing has penetrated deeply enough that he'd be disfigured by the amount of resin I'd have to take off to get to the pink underneath.

      @ The Raven:
I've thought about doing a pink dye restoration as well, but I think I'd have to get him yellowed all over first. The big problem to dying or trying antioxidants in this case is the yellowing isn't even at all. He's got strong "tan lines" around the top of his head where the wig sits, on his legs where his socks and shorts were and on his arms and neck where his shirt was. I'd have to remove the faceup and then tape up the already yellowed parts with painter's tape or something, then put him in the backyard and hope I could match the level of yellowing so that the tan lines went away, then dye him. Otherwise he's still going to be two different colors.

That's why I say he's pretty much ruined. When I first discovered the damage I was frantic to try and get it fixed so I did some searching and found out all the methods that are used to try and recover a yellowed doll. The above solution was the only one that I think might do it, but there's no guarantees and if it failed he'd look even worse.

Thank you both for trying to help though!

    19. You could try and yellow him a bit with the tape idea... then even if you didnt get it exact, you could try just dying the part of him that is uneven? Even if you dont get it exact, if it's close enough to where it's not that noticeable I think it's worth a try ^^

    20. My worst experience was ordering my first brand-new doll from the company, and also my first boy, the site stated that the wait period before he could be shipped was 15-30 days. Those days came and went and I got no package no e-mail, nothing. I waited until day 45 before sending a message asking about when my doll was to be shipped and got some vague reply about how it was hot in their factory this time of year and they were working as fast as possible and please try to be understanding. I reasoned that I could understand that, and gave them another 15 days, on day 60 I sent another message asking when my doll would be shipped because I had ordered him in June in order to have him before AWA which takes place in late September, I got another vague reply, and still no doll. Finally in September on about day 90 I reported them to paypal and sent a message to the company stating I wanted my doll, or I wanted a refund! This was probably a day or two before we left for AWA. I got a call on the second day of AWA saying I had a large package waiting for me at the local post office. Since I had intended to take him with me I was pretty pissed. While at a bjd meet there another girl was telling me how she had often ordered dolls and had to wait 4-5 months to get them. I felt kind of bad about jumping on the company when she told me that, but if they can't ship an item within 15-30 days then they shouldn't say that!
