WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. Thanks for the suggestion, Shirelae! but I had a really bad experience before with one of my heads that I sent to someone overseas (I wrote my story here before) and after that, I swore to not sent my dollies away ever again :[ to make a long story short, I was without my boy for a whole year and thanks to someone nice here, he got the face up I wanted. However, that experience wore me out and I started to do my own face ups since then...suffering a little bit a long the way because they are not as perfect as I'd want them...:sweat

I posted my boy on the critique forum so I can receive some feedback and ways to improve him later...when I feel ready to work on him again^^

    2. I'm in the same boat, Yumi! Only I'm just trying to give my new a boy a face up and he's never had one before. I'm starting to think I just really can't work on white skin, ahaha.

    3. I've never had a bad experience (yet) but I've only been active in the hobby for a few months. Had a doll for years and was like meh.

I guess I'm going through something frustrating right now too. Someone offered me two dolls I wanted in exchange for me hunting down a specific doll for them. Well I found it, dumped a few hundred dollars to get it, and the trade just isn't happening. It's been 2 weeks of broken communication and he keeps putting off the trade. He even told me he was too busy partying to get the dolls shipped. Now im having second thoughts about the trade because he's so flaky and unreliable, but I'm saddled with a doll I don't want. Guess it's a lesson learned. :/

    4. I forgot one. When I ordered my Ender, Rowan, I split some of the stuff with others on the forum. Well, he ships out, and when he arrives, I hurried to open the box, snapping pictures. Well, first some of the stuff we ordered was missing. Then I get to him...no faceup. I had ordered him painted. I burst into tears! I mean, the stuff that was ordered wasn't mine! And then he hadn't his face...

I contacted Soom and tried to show them. They called me a liar! Not in those terms, but they honestly did not believe me. Turns out the shipping people mixed up the boxes because a girl in Russia contacted them and told them her doll was painted and had items she had not ordered. She had my doll! Well, Soom refunded the money for the faceup and she sent the items. But I will never forget that one. If she hadn't said anything...I don't know what I would have done. Maybe sold him to refund the other people.

    5. I bought an expensive tiny thinking I would absolutely love this doll. She turned out to be really light feeling and floppy and her head falls off all the time. She is built in such a way that I believe any attempt to suede her would make her look worse. I spent less on an SD doll from Loongsoul that was about 100x better quality.

It's not that I hate her but I feel like she should have been a few hundred less than I paid for her. I still buy her pretty things but I feel so guilty spending so much on her.

    6. I sent my doll out to be modded. This was a grail doll for me, this person had excellent feedback and lots of happy DOA customers. And then she just...disappeared. Vanished from the forum and I can't find anything via Google. This all happened over 18 months ago and she has never come back online. I've given up hope of seeing my doll again, and I really hope nothing bad happened to this person because she was really involved in the hobby so it was so strange she just stopped coming on. But it really soured me on things and I dropped out of the hobby for a long time. Only recently have I been getting back into things again and it's also made me very wary about sending any future dolls for services to people off the MP. Which stinks because there are so many awesome people on the MP!

    7. Oh gosh, some of the experiences make me want to cry :( I'm so sorry so many people have had bad things like this happen. My stories aren't really that scary, though I was very frustrated regardless.

      1) I continue, despite several experiences which *should* be learning experiences, to spray my dolls too close and too heavily. This results in endless beading and oversaturation of specific areas on doll bodies when I'm doing blushing. It may have something to do with the fact that I don't have any good places to spray my dolls and am constantly in a rush to finish before people walk by me and inhale toxic vapours, despite the fact that i'm in a dead end street and spray away from everything... the last experience I had was trying to spray them outside and having a lady yell "move away from my bicycle!!!" when I was spraying them on the sidewalk outside my studio (and I wasn't anywhere near her bike)....

      2) after taking hours to paint hands and feet on my child's dolls i ended up a) having the girl fall over and lose a finger, which I cemented on but which fell off again and was lost during a convention

and b) put some black thigh-high stockings on her which I should have soaked in vinegar but which, since I didn't, stained her leg blushing and those feet which I'd taken forever to work on. Argh. I was pretty discouraged/mad at myself.

However, I think I got off pretty lightly, since my experiences with my dolls have mostly been positive and inspiring.

    8. Probably my worst experience was when I first got into the hobby and all I could afford at the time were ResinSouls and Bobobie. While I loved them, I felt people just kind of turned their noses up at me and thought I wasn't a real doll enthusiast. Didn't feel like I belonged in the hobby, which caused me to leave the hobby for a bit.

    9. Don't ever let anyone treat you like that. If they start harassing you over the type of doll you got just because of their price just means their probably insecure and feel the need to pick on someone.

    10. Oh, trust me. I was new and insecure, so I didn't say anything. Now, this girl gives no flying pigs.

    11. Good for you! Some of their dolls are adorable! Sometimes the doll is just as good but since they're Chinese, the materials to make them are cheaper to purchase. Hince the cheaper price. I only have 3 Volks, but my Bobobie Erin is just as well made as the Volks.

    12. I love resinsoul ^^ even though I have a soom and iplehouse at home, I'm planning on bringing a resinsoul song and mei home at some point too :)

    13. I had someone on here, when I was brand spankin new and didn't know that there were feedback threads, try to sell me a recast Lishe as a legit. I only happened to see it was recast when I was bored waiting between payments on my layaway and surfed through her tumblr which she had linked on her profile. This was before I had even heard of a recast, I had no idea what they even were. (I thought they ment, like a second edition wave or something, I came to the doll hobby from the model car and figure hobby) When I messaged her asking what recast ment, and linking to her tumblr, she got really angry, called me all these mean names, and then I got half the doll payments refunded to my account. She told me she wanted nothing to do with me but would keep half of the $ as "compensation for wasting her time" we had never agreed that any of the payments were non-refundable, my mom told me to file a paypal claim and since I screenshot everything I was able to get the rest back.

It was all really weird and left me really upset and confused. I was actually really scared after that to try buying my first doll again. I love Lishe but will never own one now because it leaves a bad taste in my mouth from the memory.

But obviously I got over it and now my collection keeps growing and growing. I LOVE buying secondhand now. Word of advice though. If anything seems weird at all, back out. Be polite about it, be really nice, apologize a lot. But you should never feel guilty for backing out when things get uncomfortable, dolls are a lot of money, it's too much to throw around on broken trust.

    14. ^ A member HERE? Please tell me you left negative feedback for her and alerted the mods. Other people need to know not to buy from that person, and the mods need to know that she attempted to sell a recast through the marketplace here. I'm sorry you had that experience! :(

    15. Haven't had many terrible experiences besides the common nose-dives and re-stringing struggles. I once ordered a blank head to practice my face-up skills, and in the mail I received a head with deformed lips, a very loose head cap, and painfully rough eye socket ridges. They offered partial refund and let me keep the head, but it was a total let down.:|

This one incident really bugged me though when me and my best friend went to a con together with our dolls. It was one of the days I chose not to cosplay and decided to bring my girl with me since I was dressing casual. After hours of walking and looking around, me and my friend went to go sit and relax. While we were sitting there, my friend (who is really into photography) wanted to take pictures of our girls together at there "first official convention".

So we passed the time posing our girls and just chatting about whatever. Just to let you know, our girls were a lesbian couple, so the two were posed romantically and such. As we were having a good time, some random girl approached us out of nowhere and intrupted our conversation with a blunt question of what company our dolls were from and mold without even introducing herself. Me, being the nicer (and spineless) one of the two, simply answered. When she asked if she could hold our doll, I noticed right away that she had what looked like cheeto puff stains on her fingers (I look straight at people's hands when they ask to hold my hands due to caution). Being as polite as possible and not wanting to tell her she was filthy, I told her no and that we were in the middle of taking pictures. Looking back at our dolls, she seemed to realize that the girls were in couple (since my girl Carol was kissing her girlfriend Izzy on the cheek holding her hand). That's when things got started.

This girl made the most disgusted face I had ever seen and let out a long "ewww". Me and my friend were baffled by the sudden reaction. This girl then started to say how unsuitable they looked together as couple and suggested we hook them up with a male bjd instead. Even tried to offer her own guy for our girls. My friend, obviously irked, told the girl to go away. At first, she did leave, allowing us to continue where we left off. Unforunately, five minutes later the same girl returned with her doll. Trying to tell her to leave again, this girl rudely grabbed my doll and ungracefully pushed her away, placing her boy next to my friend's doll, stating how this couple looked way better than the previous!:o

At that moment, my friend blew up and began scolding the girl in a very stern tone. Not likely that one bit, the girl started to both attack us and our dolls verbally. It quickly turned into a shouting match, catching the attention of many passbyers. While my friend was going strong with this ignorant girl, who retorted by calling us lesbians (we're both straight) and saying that "yaoi was better" and a bunch of random thing I can't remember, I was tending to my poor doll, fixing her wig and trying to wipe off the cheeto stains on her clothes and body.

In the end, a fellow bjd owner (who had been watching the entire scene unfold) intervened, breaking the fight. The girl was scolded one more, and she tried to justify herself and blame it all on us for "being rude". Our savior was not having any of that and threatened to get security. Grabbing her doll she was vey quick to retreat (not sure if you could get kicked out of a con for something like this but whatever the girl didn't know either). By the end of the whole ordeal I had already packed up my stuff and was ready to leave to a new location.

While this was a bitter experience, we were very grateful to the stranger who helped us out and were able to enjoy the rest of the con (keeping a lookout for the girl of course)

    16. My worse doll experience ever yet was finding out my DDH-08 head got stained and somewhat scuffed at a certain place on her head. I had taken such great care of her and didn't even have her wearing a wig or even eyes, yet she still magically got a stain even though when her head would tilt to one side or another, I would fix it (since she currently doesn't have a body). I'm pretty sure I knew what stained her and how she got scuffed but just seeing it on her when I only had her for about a week, it just made my heart drop a little. ):

    17. that is a bad feeling, what a drag.
Try wiring her with a small gauge jewelery wire.

    18. I've never heard of wiring a doll before. I'll definitely try that out with her once I read up on it. Thank you. It can't hurt anything that's for sure.

    19. make sure you either rub some low temp hot glue on the ends or wrap it in tape to keep it from scratching the insides of your doll too ^^

    20. If you are using thinner jeweler's wire you also bend the ends in so that it isn't scratchy, I am unsure why it would matter if you scratched inside the limbs? I have had mostly all of my tinies wired for years, especially my Tinybear ones, which are some of my oldest, and it works really well. The first ones were done with pipe cleaner, that works well also, but sometimes can show through. Now I use mostly copper wire, you can get it at the craft store.
