WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

1. It can be a pain if it scratches the joints. I did a crappy job on my MSD boy, it CHIPPED his joint.

2. Chipped his joint? Wow! I was thinking about wiring but I think I'm going to research a bit more before I do anything!
I think the worst thing that's ever happened around me was when my friend was restringing her resinsoul (I can't remember if I was at her house or the other way around) and the ribbon holding stuff together broke... the doll pretty much imploded (head FLYING across the room) but was perfectly fine. My poor friend almost had a heart attack... Gotta give resinsoul one for how durable she is! Now to me would be when I had Eve's head off because I was changing her out of a tight shirt with a small neck hole and it fell off of my desk... She does have a tiny scratch on the faceup because of that fall but overall survived....

3. Well and also... the wire could catch on the elastic etc. if it has a sharp edge to the end of it... even if it is folded over I think that could happen too. Some dolls have pretty small channels for the elastic also so that would make it easier for the wire ends to get tangled with the elastic and cause it to fray. My rosette Fir's elastic gets stuck in her elbows when I string her cuz it is a pretty tight squeeze... and it's the elastic she came with. I dont know how I'd end up wiring her if I needed to with how tiny her channels are.

4. I have yet to suffer a seriously bad experience I think, but my girl tends to be very kicky sometimes, and I've had several heart-stopping moments where she has been standing and randomly decided to kick out her leg can-can style and then fall over, but usually I'm quick enough to catch her. :'|

5. Yeah that's a good point too! I'm avoiding totally restringing mine at all costs, and a frayed elastic doesn't sound like fun...
Eve really loves to be kick-y too, though she hasn't launched herself off the bed... yet. *knocks on wood*

6. I never thought I would have a worst story ever to tell in the 10 years I've been in this hobby, but today my LE Fairyland fullset Mika was delivered to the wrong address. The people at the apartment were not home the two times I knocked, and another apartment person is going to check later for me and hopefully call. I have also left them a note. I'm praying they didn't open the box and ruin anything, besides you know, the fact that it'd be mail fraud. I'm also super upset with USPS.

tl;dr the doll I've been waiting like 4 months for was delivered to the wrong person and now I get to freak out.

7. I hope it all turns out okay, this has to be a nightmare.

8. Oh god Schtiel - how awful! I'm always worried they are going to do something horrible like that where I live. It's rampant. I hope you get your doll back. You had insurance right?

9. Radish - it's EMS, so it should be insured by default, but the problem lies in the fact that I don't think FL actually puts down the product value properly. If they do like most other places and value my package at like $50 or something, it's essentially useless to me. 8(

Steamwitch - thank you, I'm hoping it turns out okay too : ( I'm crossing my fingers.

10. $50? Oh geeze. I hope they do the right thing and give it back to you.

11. This is terrible:( I hope everything turns out well !!

12. OMG!! Wow you are all scaring me. Thankfully the only damage I have had is a small chip on the ear of my clearance Mic. He has while skin so not my favorite. I keep thinking to sell him but just can't get myself to.

My nightmare is trying to restring him! Does Doll Leaves do something to the necks? The neck did not flop when I first got him but now, no matter how tight I string him his head keeps flopping!!! Driving me nuts!!!

USPS!! Dear God. Thankfully no dolly problems from them. I learned the hard way to avoid them before I got into bjds. I was in an Episcopal seminary for a semester and a half when suddenly, no fault on my part (and in the opinion of all who have heard what happened, I was being discriminated against) I was dismissed and left homeless and destitute. My parents took me in. I started selling stuff on eBay, including a very expensive magazine set. Only to have buyers report contents missing from the boxes!! And no amount of talking to USPS. I kept having to issue refunds. I am now contacting my congressman. But I would not ship a bjds with USPS if I can avoid it ever!! I think they give their customer service people how to be as rude as possible training

13. One of my terrible stories of doll.... I drop the head in the floor, and the floor was kinda asphalt textures. I was so scared, but it drop on the top of sneakers in safety, so my doll didn't get any damage at that time. Holy crap......

14. I wouldn't call it a 'bad experience' just...something quite unfortunate for me :(

I ordered my Souldoll Randor in white skin, he had his face up done and don't get me wrong he is stunningly gorgeous, I am completely infatuated with his face up....but my problem is just the rest of him.

The scars on his wrists don't sit under his wrists, they seem to sit on the top of his wrists and no matter how I move it, it won't change. His leg keeps popping out of joint when I move him, which is annoying. His head is small compared to his body...and his skin is just way too white for my liking.

I love him, and I love his face up, but it's taking me a while to bond with him and I feel guilty and ashamed to say that I'm disappointed with him as a doll, and I am kicking myself for not just buying a normal skinned doll instead. It's my first experience of not bonding with my doll immediately, which is quite upsetting for me... :'(

15. Have you tried restringing him/tightening him? If his hips are popping out, he probably just needs a good restringing. You dont have to take him all apart if he's loose... just take his head off and pull up on the elastic, retie it so it is tighter, then put his head back on ^^ He might also benefit from some low temp hot glue sueding :]

16. My worst is probably not all that bad compared to some of these, but yesterday I just noticed a dark colored dot on my second doll's nose. I don't remember it being there before and it won't come off with just rubbing it (I haven't tried a magic eraser on it yet, and the doll is tan so I worry that might make the discoloration worse some time). I feel really bad because I'm sure it is from my handling him wrong at some point, probably one of those times he wouldn't stand and would just fall over (I still need to restring him Dx). His resin is a very unique color (from Dollzone's period of erratic tan resin shades), and I'm always afraid of damaging him because he is basically one of a kind. So seeing even the slightest defect makes me feel really sad and guilty for not taking care of him better.

17. Don't be afraid of trying a magic clean eraser. I used a damp one combined with a dry one to scrub my TAN Resinsoul Bei's body clean of red stains from her clothing.

18. I have few bad experiences and my worst doll experience is having to take out the magnet from the head as it was on the wrong side. I have some experience in gluing magnets but maybe I was tried and put too much super glue. The magnet flipped over as I was trying to put it in. In the end, I had to use nail polish remover and it melted both the glue and part of the resin. It was a nightmare and now I have a phobia of gluing magnets.

I do not know why but bad things only happens to a particular doll of mine. Maybe his is just unlucky...

19. Well for me my worst experience was ordering a doll and then having the credit card I used to buy my doll suddenly missing money because the web site had hackers. They stole another five hundred and yea me and my boyfriend were not happy when that happened...

20. My worst experience so far has to be the scratch on my doll's face. I've only had my doll for about eight months now and during her fourth month home, she randomly decided to flop off the couch on her own *_*. She was sitting up with her legs stretched out and she sat perfectly fine the whole day but later that night she randomly decided to flop onto her side, continue to roll over and then basically jackknifed off my couch and landed on her back O_O; She wasn't even hanging off the edge, only her feet were poking over the edge :|. At first she looked okay but when morning came, I noticed she had a scratch from the corner of her eye all the way to her mid-cheek :...(. Only her face up was scratched (thank goodness!) but I'm still pretty bummed that it happened at all :pout:. To top it off, she's a limited and she is my first BJD. I pretty much spent the couple months following the event saying I was a bad BJD mommy but I've gotten over it since and would only consider having it fixed if her face got anything else messed up.

I still don't know why/how it even happened - do dolls even half barrel roll on their own? Is that normal? :shudder
