WORST Doll Experience EVER

Apr 30, 2012

    1. I bought many dolls from YJ, but my 1st Suigintou fullset was a nightmare.

She was late by a week, with tracking saying "delivered."
She looked and smelled funny, bad.
A friend accidentally dropped soda on her face. As she cleaned her, the face up got damaged to no return.

I got her a new face up and sold her within 1 hour of posting her. Good riddance.

    2. Oh geez! D:
Of all the times to have that condition start up.
I'm glad to hear you've been put on medicine.
I'm kinda clumsy and so I'll never take my dolls out side without a carrier for that reason, lol.

    3. I got my doll and her calve piece was chipped !

    4. Definitely when my Madgey Poo took a nose dive off a pile of ultrasuede. I had placed her up on the pile the day before and took a couple of photos because she looked so darned cute sitting beside me in my studio on a stack of super colourful material. I don't know exactly how I did it, but she did a dreadful dive and ended up on my hard tile flooring with her head falling apart. I dove down after her and almost starting crying and I apologized to her over and over again. Her magnet holder had a couple of chips out of it and her face-up on her lips was cracked and broken. I managed to fix the damage without it being too too noticeable, but I continue to feel horrible to this day. Have I learned my lesson, probably not, because I still leave my dolls sitting places where I can see them, but I'm just not the type to have them in boxes.. I can hear their screams in my head! hahaha

    5. I recently got a Star Benny and Junior Day from Dolkot thru a dealer about 3 weeks ago. Benny had a small chip on one leg near his foot and that foot was covered in black marks... I found the chipped off piece in his box and stuck it back and the chip isn't noticeable so I let that go. I was also able to easily clean the marks off with a magic eraser. However, one of Day's ears (which are removable) was chipped. I couldn't find any chipped off piece in his box and it kind of looks like it was perhaps an ear that they made wrong or something.

I've immediately took pictures of the ear and contacted the dealer about getting a replacement ear but she still hasn't replied to tell me if Dolkot will be giving me a replacement or not...

I really regret going to through this dealer. Her communication throughout has been rather spotty... When my order from Dolkot arrived it took several messages to even get her to reply to me about when I could pick up the dolls from her. During that time, I was so scared she'd disappeared with my dolls... now I think I'll never get a replacement ear for Day...

    6. The worst experience I've had was my little boy's hand falling off when I was putting a shirt on him. He was my first doll and I completely panicked as I didn't know anyone who would be able to help me fix him. After I calmed down I realised the hook in the back of his hand had simply been pulled out (due to defective thread, I'm incredibly gentle with my dolls). I managed to carefully super-glue the hook back in and re-string the hand back on. His arm doesn't bend as well as it used to but I'm happy to leave it until I find someone close by to help me restring him properly ;)

    7. When I found that my SDF Bliss (which I bought for the faceup) has weird blackish patches in his faceup, that are only visible under strong light (like afternoon light, or in a bright white background). I was so sad, cos I didn't know about it when I bought him, and I bought him FOR the faceup, which made it worse. I got over it though... I try to ignore it and not see him under bright light. And recently, my Lishe boy got a pink spot on his nose from another doll's lip chipping off. I tried kneaded eraser and magic sponge but it doesn't come off. Not super devasted but pretty sad about it, cos it's rather funny to see in real life. My only consolation is that it doesn't really show in photos.

    8. Thankfully I only had HEFTY custom fee horrors to share, no guts, gore or broken dolls! *knocks on wood*

    9. The first time I tried restringing!!

I obviously had NO idea what I was doing and didn't have the proper tools and used my hands.

I spent 2hrs trying to string and restring and failing miserably with sore hands.

I still haven't tried restringing since

    10. My worst doll experience of late is when someone asked me what my doll was. When I said it was an Asian ball joint doll, he responded by making racists 'fake Chinese talking' gibberish noises at me. I was too shocked to come up with any kind of response before he was gone.

    11. I'm so sorry you have to go through something like that... it's not quite the same, but I have random episodes of "PSVT" that can put a huge damper on the whole "being out in public" thing. So far it hasn't led to any doll related woes though. But I guess theoretically I could pass out while holding a doll!

    12. I promise it gets easier! And when you have the right tools it makes a big difference. First time I had to restring a doll it took me three hours. And I had tools! If you have to do it again you'll already have experience.

    13. I would have laughed. XD But that's just me.

    14. I know this is probably not the best response to some racist comment but I'd probably have just spouted into an insult in Spanish as a response.

    15. Once quite soon after I'd gotten my Soom Chalco I was playing with him in our carpeted lounge. He was standing really steadily next to the coffee table, and then suddenly BAM! He fell over and two of his fingers snapped off D: That was the first time a part of my dolls had broken so I was really worried, especially with a limited edition tan doll. Thankfully I messaged Soom and they let me buy a replacement pair of hands. Another time my cat jumped off the fence to land basically on top of my Iplehouse Claude where I was taking photos on a concrete retaining wall outside which could have ended so badly, but thankfully, despite taking a few years off of my life, this time Claude stood like a rock ^^;

I also had a really stressful time with shipping once. I bought a doll from a MP seller which arrived in late November, so I knew the postal service was going to be really busy with Christmas packages. But when I rang up to pay the customs tax the lady said my doll would arrive in 1-2 business days as usual. A week later I ring up to see what's happening. We ended up asking if we could go out to the airport and pick the package up ourselves, but they said no because it had been put on the container to be shipped out to me. This was when the real troubles started, because the doll dropped off the radar completely, and no one knew where it had gone, and the post service was incredibly unhelpful. My mum eventually kept ringing around 'til she found the right people to talk to; it turned out the package was still waiting at the airport, as even though they had told us we couldn't pick it up, they'd taken it off the container for us to pick up anyway, but hadn't told anyone, not us nor the courier service picking it up D:

    16. Phew, some real horror stories in here. For the people whose dolls were either destroyed or lost, my heart goes out to you.

I've unfortunately had a few bad experiences with this hobby, thankfully not as bad as some.

Sadly, the worst experience was with my very first doll. As I was trying to decide on which doll to get, I let someone talk me into getting a Mythdoll Little Leroi over a Dollzone Megi... big mistake. :doh
At first, everything seemed to be going well, I paid and got an order confirmation. Then the promised date for shipping out came and went. I was very understanding when they apologized, saying that there had been some delays, but not to worry as they'd ship my doll next week. Then the week after that. And so on and so-forth for a couple of months. Excuse after excuse, lie after lie.

By this time, my patience and good nature had been completely worn down to the bone. I basically had to threaten them with legal action for them to finally send me the doll I'd paid for. I will be eternally grateful to an artist who worked for the company, when they discovered the situation and stepped in on the customers' behalf.

For all this period of time, I was completely stressed out. I felt absolutely sick as I'd saved up a long time, and now I was out this (to me) huge chunk of money. :...(

Then when he finally did arrive, he had horrific seams, parts of him had gobs of resin where the molds were obviously falling apart at the edges. The wig I'd paid $23 was an absolute piece of garbage, looked almost nothing like their photo of it, and every time I touched it, wig fibers fell out- it didn't even fit him well. I later found out that they hadn't used any sealant on his faceup, which, of course, stained his face.

It was enough that it could have made me want to leave the hobby altogether, but I was extremely determined to enjoy this doll I'd fought so hard to get. I worked for hours and hours to get his seams and flaws looking at least less noticeable, and bonded with him. He still has a ton of issues, but I could never part with him now. Though I do plan to replace his head and his hands one of these days... those are beyond my abilities to fix. :sweat

I love this hobby, and I adore my dolls. I won't let anybody ruin it for me. :)

    17. My worst dolly experience was when I f-ed up a particular step during a customization because I became impatient. Many mistakes or "not-quite-rights" can be fixed or redone, but this one could not. I had to spend more money than I wanted for a replacement part. But I think I learned an invaluable lesson: Take your time because the end result is worth the time.

    18. @Prysm - That's horrible. :c It's a shame it would be so hard to take them to court for misrepresenting their product or something.

    19. Oh wow, I'm glad none of this has happened to me. Some of these are just awful.

    20. My worst so far is on customs. It was my very first doll so I don't really know that you can under-declare or list as gift. I had to be driven to the far away customs office just to pick her up then I met the corrupt customs officers. I paid as much tax as what I paid for the doll. TAT On top of that, I just bought a body so I have to sculpt a head. It's rather hard when you don't have anything to copy from in person.
