worst part of the sculpt?

Aug 22, 2008

    1. I've probably posted here previously but I have new gripes.

Volks SD-H-02 hands. I just hate them. The secondhand body I received came with them and although it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the doll; it still is a slight bother because the hands I like most are the standard hands that come with most Volks girls and it's these same hands that aren't sold separately.

I also don't like the "armpit fat" detailing around the arm sockets of the SD10 and SD13 Volks girl bodies. I'll sand it off one day~

Kid delf joints. They're too square for my liking.

    2. type 3 does seem better  at least the arm bend more....

    3. AceHartHunter aww man i'm so glad i make my own pants, no popping buttons xD!

sahoma xD true and he can sit on his knees :0!

    4. I really like my DragonDoll Di's lanky frame, but if I were to complain about the sculpt, I'd say his double jointed knees and elbows aren't very aesthetically pleasant. Or in other words, they're well jointed and everything but they look so... blocky. And squared. I don't really mind them very much, but I do think the sculpt could be improved in that aspect.
And, well, not a defect but my boy's "bits" also drive me crazy sometimes. When dressing him up, I mean. They're... pretty prominent and noticeable through his pants (I prefer dressing my boy up in tight-fitting clothes). Underwear help me, err, "cover" this, though. I suppose that, as a (resin) male, he isn't bothered by this. On the contrary! But as her female owner, I'd wish for the removable bits the larger 72cm DD boy comes with.

    5. This! I have a Zaoll and I had to put bluetack on the faceplate to keep it from falling off. If I didn't, I'm sure he would have broken his nose sooner or later.

I adore my Zaoll but his elbows annoy me to no end. His arms are always popping out of place. It looks pretty funky.

    6. I don't like those kinds of knee joints that make the knee look like a square/a U-shape ~ It should be V-shaped! XD

    7. the Kid Delf: i don't like her innaturally long legs. Since she has amputated arms, they make her look like a chicken when she's wearing tight clothes.
the Bluefairy: her head is too large compared to the face, her ass is flat and the joints are terrible. I've yet to figure out how the elbow is supposed to work and i keep putting it in weird positions.

    8. Obviously I love Teal (Delf El) and all his little quirks just make me love him more. But! there are just those little things that make me go "Oh for the love of...!" when I'm trying to do whatever with him. They are:

That infamous El claw hand. Good for those "I'll eat your brains" zombie moments, but not much else.
His butt. It looks great (heheh) when he's not wearing anything else, but when he sits down wearing jeans, it just... pops out of them.
The cap between thigh and hip. As some others have pointed out, it just spins around and makes him look like a chicken with bowel problems.
The way he can't seem to look up. He can look down fine, it's just looking up that's a problem.
The hip-torso joint. I wish it was up by the ribcage because posing is impossible.
The torso in general. It looks great, but his back is arched as if he's carrying something really heavy.
How HUGE is his head? Seriously, if he was a real person he'd just keel over.
Posing in general. I need to suede him so badly it's crazy. He can barely even just sit there.
His chin and jawline are so very, very angular. From the front it's beautiful, but in profile it looks like a geometry test.

Of course, none of these things stop me loving him ^^ or even buying another Delf body. Phew! Bitching over. I feel I should apologise to him now XDD

    9. I've got three dolls that have things that annoy me, I love the dolls anyway and in 2/3 cases I've had the doll long enough that I've gotten used to the quirks and in the third (well, second) I fixed it without much problem...but still, it's whining time.

My Ryu's souldoll knees and their weird square hugemongous kneecaps. Those knees are just inhuman and seriously eerie, no one has knees like that. I love the body to death otherwise, but in most cases it's like someone stuffed a lego block in his pants. It just skeeves me out a little.

My limhwa's faceplate used to go flying off constantly before I taped it down, it was kind of hilarious sometimes but yeah...even though I did her faceup myself and wouldn't have to pay to redo it, it freaked me out every time. Sometimes it still comes off and hangs there by the tape so her face swings back and forth when you move her. Casey's a classy lady like that.

And uh, my sprite's hands. I'm not sure if they've been improved in the years since I bought her so my complaint might be out of date, but the wrists have absolutely no mobility and the fingers are looooong. The fingers have kind of grown on me since I got her, but seriously...my kingdom for some wrist movement.

    10. i love all my dolls dearly but there is some slight things that annoy me...

my elfdoll June : the evil hook inside the head (thats meant to keep the head-cap on)...it always comes unstuck...and if i glue it well...i have problems changing her eyes

customhouse bisou : delicate toes and fingers im always afraid to break them...also theres hardly any wrist posing

domuya flexifashion Vanessa : scary hand pose! makes it hard to dress without removing that hand...also...though ive had her longest in all my dolls...i still havent found her any shoes that fit right :/ odd size...

    11. the.. variabilty. I have two of volks 1/6 eb dollfies (yes offtopic, but tis what i got for now)
Phie is strung -very- well and poses well too without flopping out or anything, Orelda however while being the same type/sculpt is tons looser in comparison.

    12. I wish my Lati M had a torso joint instead of a solid torso. It makes for some delicious shirtless photos but posing wise? What can I do? x.X I had issues with my SD13G bodies because of the stiffness of the torso, but I broke the inset off and it stopped bugging me too much.

My SDGr has knees and elbows that annoy me because I have no idea how to get them to work properly. I'll get used to it, eventually. :sweat

And my LTF. Ugh. He likes to fall over backwards. >.<

    13. The pose of the fingers on my CD Minister Longaway (Kys). They just look... weird. Like he was caught in the middle of using signing language or something when his hands were cast. He came with another pair of hands, but those are really chubby/child-like and Kys is most definitely not a child. His S-hook in the neck/head is also not an S-hook but a ring, which I thought was a little strange. He does have an inordinately cute belly button though.

The Magical Girl Legs that happens when I sit my AoD/LE Doll Adonis (Kijika). When he's seated with his knees bent, his legs do this funky together from groin to knee, splayed from knee to foot pose that I can't make him not do. I'd also like it if he wasn't so sway-backed when sitting/standing.

    14. I like pretty much everything about my dolls except two of them have really pointy noses. like poke an eye out lol

    15. Hrm..I guess for my Dollzone boy I kind of hate his lack of a butt XD He just doesn't fill out pants well, and while I don't have many "plumber's crack" issues with him, he's just kinda shapeless back there haha And he can't look up much.

And my Kid Delf has insanely kicky legs. I can get him to stand and pose excellently, but when I'm changing him or something his legs just snap back and make it impossible to get his damn pants off.

Both of them have really unrealistic elbows, but I don't mind so much since their characters wear long sleeves a lot.

    16. I love my DM Thinking Larme, but his inability to hold a pose there for a while was driving me away from him. I couldn't do anything with him without his chest joint popping, or his arms flopping. It got to the point where I didn't want anything to do with dolls at all (he's my only finished doll). Eventually, I re-did his stringing and sueded him, and he's been alright now.

I have a Soom R. Heliot head, and though I love that sculpt to death, I do have some issues with it. His eyes are a little too closed, which makes photographing his eyes a little difficult. But I knew that was going to be a problem when I got him. ^^; However, his resin seems softer than the other dolls we have in the house. He face-planted and cracked his nose, and a fall from the entertainment center snapped part of his ear off, though other dolls have fallen and never got so much as a scratch or dent. He seems to be unevenly sanded, some parts taking color easier than others. I've wondered if that's the result of the fact he's an MD, but as I've never heard of anything like this from any other MD owners, maybe it's just Lu.

My girlfriend owns an Angell Studio Kana, and while I do love that doll (it was the first resin I ever saw in person), there are some things that get me, though nowhere close to my dolls. ^^ She's a little kicky from her stringnig, and I understand that she came from the company like that. It also makes it difficult for her to hold certain poses.

My girlfriend also has a Dollzone Yuu. He stands like a rock, which pleased me because it matches what I've heard from other DZ owners, but... he has a little difficultly holding certain poses. It takes a litle work to get him to do what I want. He also has a habit of striking the most gay poses ever, which is amusing as it's way out of his character, yet he's still gay. His hands have been dubbed "molestor hands" because they're so big and look grabby... O.o And his butt cheeks... are spread.

The Dollzone Ani we also have has some things I'm not too sure of. She tends to have accidental panty shots, which bug me as she's a child doll.

We've also had a Bobobie Rachel in the house. I'm sure we're all familiar with Bobobie stringing, but she was so floppy when she came to us. The elastic that was in her body didn't have the tension for her to hold her pose. We tried restringing her once, but she had no S-hooks or anything, just loops in her joints, which made restringing her the only way I knew how impossible. After a few hours of fighting and almost getting blisters, I didn't really want to go through that again anytime soon. However, we were able to fix-ish the problem. We restrung her from stringing we bought from the Volks website and gave her S-hooks, and I sueded her, so now she stands much, much, much better.

    17. My Asleep Eidolon boy has a great body except for two things. One, He has a big butt and even bigger thighs! It's very difficult to find pants that fit him, and I'm a pattern sewer, so sewing is difficult too. Two, the way his elbows are designed, his forearms pop out of place and fly into crazy poses at the slightest wrong touch (this also has to do with his tight stringing, but the elbow does nothing to hold anything in place). However, I could name plenty more things that I love about him than things that I hate.

    18. On my DoC Si (named Ash) - the thing that irritates me to no end are his toes! I just want to die when I look at them. He has these little short, stubby, fat looking toes!!! Then place him next to my Jory who has a Dragon Doll body...Jory's feet are too elegant. Very long and slender...and there's the stubby toed one. o_O It just drives me batty. He also has an odd hand...like I just don't know where to place it or anything because it's like he's making an O shape with it. But I absolutely adore my Ash so much!

On my DIM Flowne, her hand bothers me as well. One of her hands, the two mid fingers are together. It looks really awkward to me. I've made it look decent in some pics but for the most part, I just have to not focus on her hands in the pictures, or hide it behind her or something. But she's so adorable.

    19. My B&G Sapphira's hands >.> I do like the post, but the hands are a bit too long and on each hand two fingers are melded to one xD (I fixed this by giving him dollmore hands, but he broke one of them)

I also have some problems with my Byggs kneejoints (of the hooves) They pose rather good, but when standing up they make some strange shape. He can't stand up very well without his lower legs being put a bit behind, creating some kind of gap :p

For the rest I can be bothered by elbow joints taking on strange poses xD I only have single jointed dolls so I suppose it's more normal xD
But hey!! I love them ^^ (cuddles all)

    20. HZ Body 65cm - The body is beautiful and my boy stands like a ROCK! The one thing, one little thing, is the mobility joints in his thighs bend before his hips do, so if I want him to sit I have to grab higher up on the thigh and do it. Not a huge deal or anything, but its alittle annoying if I just want to plop him down.

      Dragon Doll Uncle body - omfg. This body drives me insane. The feet are so square that hardly any shoes will fit, and those are usually big honk'n boots, which isn't what I want. The hands look nice but they have tiny nails and its kinda creepy looking. The double joints annoy the hell out of me because you have to pull the forearm out to use them and otherwise the arm locks into completely straight or 90 degrees and refuses to do anything in between. The hip joints are super-omg-you-wouldn't-believe loose, even after hot glueing them and a re-stringing (which is a nightmare in its own right. The s-hooks aren't even attached to the hands and feet!). I'm seriously trying to figure out if there's another kind of body I can put such big heads on >_>;
