Would/do your male dolls wear eyelashes?

Jan 7, 2011

    1. in regards to my doll guys having lashes, well my bro in law has thicker and longer lashes than I do and he doesn't look femenine at all, so my EID Max "LUO" does have lashes as does My Jensen "LUO" and believe you me, I love him in that look. With that body nobody will think they are girls. LOL

I do like my boys to have lashes.

      Bren =0)

    2. i don't own any male dolls, but as androgyny or effeminate male dolls are widely accepted within the community, i don't see an issue with it at all. heck, many male dolls sold by companies come with as much eyeliner/eyeshadow in their company faceups as their female counterparts. hence why it is so easy to change a doll's gender by changing their body type.

as for the really masculine BJDs out there, as the poster above me said, everyone has eyelashes. "masculine" men typically have finer, less pronounced eyelashes and don't use mascara or falsies, but they still have them.

    3. I like lashes on a male doll, it's more realistic. But ofcourse it depends on the character that doll has to play.
If you want to give him an unhuman touch, no eyelashes will help you to achieve that effect.

I think length however does the most. Long eyelashes on a male doll will make them look more feminine.
So my male doll has short eyelashes .

    4. I agree with Ryuutje above. I think it's not a matter of whether boy dolls have them or not, it's most likely the length or thickness of the eyelashes what makes them more feminine. I have no problem with a male doll with short thin lashes, I'd mave more trouble with a boy with no lashes at all... I think that in my opinion looks a bit weird.

    5. Yes, why not? Males have eyelashes in real life too, lol.

    6. *cough* All males are 'masculine' by definition.
But if by 'masculine' you really meant 'hairy', then you've got it backwards: hirsute men typically have longer, thicker, more pronounced eyelashes than men/women with light/no facial hair. The best lashes I personally know belong to Persian & Italian dudes who get five-o-clock shadow by noon every day. Countless women I know lament "it's not fair!" because they blow yea bucks on mascara & lash-curlers & falsie-glue, while the boyfriend doesn't have to do a damn thing. =D

I love the big flappy eyelashes Iplehouse puts on some of my huge musclebound male dolls; it makes them look endearing, not girly. :abambi: And I love superlong dramatic lashes on my more-glamorous male dolls; for example my Volks Masamune's dense sooty layer of sweepy lashes nail the sultry expression that's required for Yuki's character.

But thin short lashes are appropriate for my less-glamorous male dolls, who don't have eye makeup as an integral part of their look. And for very-small-eyed male dolls, thinner & shorter lashes are required, just so I can see the eyes. But I'd never leave lashes off completely, because that makes dolls look like starey aliens who have no defense against dust blowing into their eyes. ^^

Exactly - it's a sort of Western cultural 'shorthand', to more easily separate the genders into the boxes that've been defined for them. As if eyelashes were a secondary sex-characteristic! *snork*

    7. Mine do and will. Length and thickness will be adjusted according to how I want them to look though. The main reason being, I've yet to see a male not have eyelashes. (I'm excluding people who have gone through chemo and stuff though).

    8. My boys with company face ups have eye lashes. My boys with my faceups don't. Mostly because I can't find the right shortness and thinness... I can find super long lashes all over the place but I can't find shorties. I know that you can glue them deeper in the eye socket but my past attempts at this have failed miserably.

    9. I know what you mean - I did eventually manage that set-the-lashes-in-deep trick in one of my small-eyed boys, but only after many attempts and a lot of swearing.
But then (d'oh) I discovered Volks already makes a set of nicely thin boy-friendly lashes that could have saved me all that blasphemy. => http://www.volksusa.com/eyelash01.html (WT-1 type, comes in colors) Drive-by shopping tip!

    10. I got my boys secondhand and their previous owners gave them eyelashes, so I just never took them out. They don't bother me too much--but they're pretty short. My fiancee's first boy arrived with eyelashes and they look awesome, so we're all too happy to let him keep them. But I don't think I'd be bothered one way or another if they didn't have them, as long as they had appropriate face-ups.

    11. To me, if they don't have eyelashes, it makes them look kind of creepy. I like dolls to look more realistic, so I'd prefer them with eyelashes. I don't like it if either male or female have MASSIVE ones though...but then again, it depends on the look of the doll. I've never seen painted-on upper lashes that look good, but I have seen some eyelashes glued on top of painted on lower lashes...and that looked fantastic. I suppose it's all down to what fits the character of the doll, how well it's done, and personal taste.

    12. I would definitely give all my dolls eyelashes. Since everyone has them and I think they would look a little weird if they were lacking them. I just might make sure they were a little shorter

    13. I think so, I may have to trim a little though just to ensure it's not too long and girly:sweat

    14. My male dolls have eyelashes because I prefer realistic sculpts, and I think they'd look very silly without eyelashes :sweat I can see how it might work better for male dolls from more stylised lines to go without eyelashes, as the more stylised a doll is, the less detail there is to signify a sculpt as masculine or feminine. People who like stylised dolls but want their boys to be obviously different compared to their female dolls could use a lack of eyelashes as a 'masculine' sign. With more realistic sculpts, there are enough details built into the sculpt to do that, so male dolls not having eyelashes doesn't really add much.

    15. Yes. I wouldn't give them the big, beautiful, long, full lashes that I would my female dolls, but some lashes would be a requirement. I buy the lashes that come as two individually made lashes for my girls, similar to human false lashes. I plan on buying the simpler "string" of lashes that are not nearly as long (or expensive!) for my guy doll. I like the way they look, even on boy dolls, but I feel like they are easily overdone. That's a matter of personal preference though, obviously :) I really like the way companies like DollZone do their boy lashes. They tend to point a bit down, rather then curl up. However, this is how they do the girls, too, and I don't like it on girls like that. ^^

    16. it would depend on the character as to whether i would use eyelashes or not. the two boys i have now are a little femme. so i would use eyelashes on them.

    17. I do add eyelashes to my male dolls, just because I like the look of actual eyelashes over painted-on ones. They help out with the one boy who has white eyelashes appearing to actually have them, as well; painted ones wouldn't show at all on him, but the actual eyelashes are visible. In the case of the boys, most of theirs are human falsies pulled back into the head, so they're a bit thinner and not as effeminate as the thicker doll ones; it's been effective, and they're fairly easy to install that way.

    18. My friend's boy has eyelashes and I would like mine (currently non-existent) to have them as well.

    19. Some of my boys do and some don't (most do) but It totally depends on the doll and character/vision. Also because I'm not talented enough to do my own face-ups, I leave it up to the artist to make the call as to whether lashes will work and they pick an appropriate type.

    20. I don't use eyelashes for my dolls. I really do prefer the look without them. I might decide to put eyelashes on a doll who is wearing more obvious makeup if it suits him or her, but otherwise I have no intention of using them :)
