Would/do your male dolls wear eyelashes?

Jan 7, 2011

    1. I really think a lot depends on the mold. As long as they aren't overly long, I rather like lashes on my male dolls. I actually did lashes on Damian in October. I was inspired by a person who was looking at colored lashes. For some reason, even applying lashes scares me a little, but I thought it turned out well enough. :) Here's a picture of him:

Yes, those are purple eye lashes. Damian has a rebellious streak, and has a sort of Gothic/Punk style. So, I thought the wild lashes fit. I'm working on getting some purple extensions into his wig as well. (One of his favorite colors is purple.)

    2. Guys irl have longer and fuller lashes than girls do so... Yes, my boys all get the nicest eyelashes :D

    3. All of my boys have eyelashes! They just don't look finished to me until they have their eyelashes in, and it gives them an additional touch of realism that I like :)

    4. It kind of depends on the doll or the look I'm going for. All 12 of my dolls are boys, and the majority of them have eyelashes.

Hogarth and Nyetsk do not have lashes because then I can't get light to reflect in their sleepy eyes(I tried putting light blond lashes in to match their hair, didn't like it) but my very wide open eyed Claude has eyelashes on both his upper and lower lids(they are one strip of eyelashes for each eye that goes all the way around, took me forty five minutes per eye to get them in and looking right but I love love love the result). Even my little Faerie boy Dom has golden eyelashes.

Also, Gilbert does not have actual lashes because he's based off of a character who is very stylized(in my opinion) and adding eyelashes would make him look less like Gilbert to me. On the other hand, if I can find some light green eyelashes, Zoro might get lashes, because that would be frickin' awesome. And when I finally get Kon El home he's going to have lashes because western style drawing depicts him with them more than the eastern styled Gilbert or Zoro, so it wouldn't look weird at all to me for him to have them.

But back to my regular dolls, I have Giorges who has a company face up with no lashes and while it looks a little odd to me, I'm not sure if I want to try adding lashes because I'm not sure I'd be able to find some that would work with his face without looking weird or gaudy to me...

If we want to get on the subject of strange lashes we have Promith, who has low-hanging light brown upper lashes, with dark green lower lashes that match his dark green hair, even though his eyebrows match his old brown hair and upper lashes... It has a strange effect that I quite like...
And Joulliette has regular brown lashes on his right eye, but long long golden lashes on his left.

On the subject of masculinity, Kle is very very masculine to me, and he has thick brown lashes that I couldn't imagine him without, he didn't look finished to me until I had his eyelashes properly glued in.

I have a lot of fun with eyelashes... Joulliette and Claude can thank Souldoll's Walter for their styled eyelashes XD

    5. Not just my male dolls, but my only female doll doesn't have eyelashes too :) I just prefer the look of the eyes without the lashes and I find it easier to photograph them, especially with close ups. That said, I do have 1 male doll with lashes because he came with the default faceup and I didn't *think* about lashes so I didn't ask them not to put it in. And I don't really want to just remove it in case they used like gloss to attach the lashes (heard some companies do that) which would remove his eyeliner :/

    6. The ones with company faceups have lashes, but the boys I've painted (and the one with an artist's faceup) don't. My girls do, except the one with the scarred eye, just because I haven't wanted to deal with working around the scar. I wouldn't mind my boys having lashes, though I'd probably use shorter ones than on the girls, but I don't mind them not having them either.

    7. All day, everyday. Human boys have eyelashes, so why not resin boys? My 68cm boy has top and bottom blonde eyelashes.

    8. Yes my boys have lashes, they lend a nice touch of realism to any sculpt.

    9. My Obitsu boy has them, but shorter than they are on most girls. He definitely looks better with them than without, and I'm also happy with how his look isn't *too* girly. Won't be putting any lashes on my pixiu though, he's *supposed* to have dragon eyes that are a bit alien.

    10. Depends on what kinds of eyelashes. They all have eyelashes, but I don't like my boys having too long and thick eyelashes.

    11. I do like eyelashes in male dolls. I think it just adds another level of detail. I don't think dolls without eyelashes look strange though.

    12. Only one of my male dolls has eye lashes. Personally, I do not think eyelashes on male dolls looks bad; in fact, it adds a little more detail to the face-up.

I guess it really depends on the character. My male doll with eyelashes is a little feminine. My other male dolls are more masculine. However, one of them has the default face-up which does not have eyelashes. The other I am debating on whether I want eyelashes with his face-up.

    13. I think the eyelashes just give a little more life to a doll's eyes than if they didn't, regardless of if they were male or female. It can be a really nice, subtle feature.
I personally love boys with long eyelashes, so that's another reason why I prefer my boy dolls with them.

    14. Haha a few of my male dolls have eyelashes and I completely don't mind (where actually I asked for it).
It doesn't make them feminine, but it enhances their facial feature IMHO. :)

    15. Yup, Cao does! Although long, thick lashes block part of his eyes, it doesn't bother me. And he already has a really effeminate sculpt, so it's not like they make him look that girly. ^^"

    16. In real life most guys have some uber long lashes, and even natural eyeliner...while I struggle with Mac n Maybelline :-)..when I get my boy dolly he will have lashes AND lipgloss! Hahaha

    17. I would as I like giving em life. I wouldn't give him a bushy one, but a simple one.

    18. Are you kidding me? I see no difference in eyelashes for boys and girls. It is just must be.
      I'm crazy about long eyelashes.

    19. I might shorten the lashes a bit if I was doing a face up on a male doll but it really depends on the kind of look I'd be going for? I am also a huge fan of long lashes so unless he needed to be super manly I'd probably use similar lashes to what someone would pick for a girl.

    20. Yes! All of my dolls have eyelashes because in the nature, human has eyelashes both genders, right? :) But...one of my male dolls has extra long eyelashes. :o That's because I let company do face up and they put an extra long eyelashes for "HIM" (more beautiful than my girl). I guess, they may forget that he is a boy. Hahaha! But I don't mind, just a bit envy...Why my eyelashes aren't that beautiful!? :pout:
