Would/do your male dolls wear eyelashes?

Jan 7, 2011

    1. I am currently saving up for a boy and he will definitely be wearing lashes. His appearance will be more feminine so the eye lashes should accentuate that. I also have plans for another boy who will be more manly but I would like him to wear shorter lashes because I have seen dolls without eye lashes and to me, they look a bit strange (unless that is the intended look).

    3. I do really prefer my boys to have eyelashes as opposed to not! I love how sleepy some of them look when I add lashes.

    4. I would definitely put eyelashes on a male doll, even if it was a very "manly" character. They certainly wouldn't be long curly thick jet-black mascaraed lashes, but even shorter, more natural lashes make a big difference. You can fake it with paint, but for the top lashes as least I don't find it to look as nice. (Just my opinion.) Plus, I think it just adds a whole new level of detail to the face--BJD lashes can look very realistic, not like the very obvious plastic on some other dolls.

    5. I think guy dolls look cute with pretty eyelashes!!

    6. My guys both have eyelashes just for realistic purposes.. I also think that eyelashes can make the eyes look larger and more beautiful so that is another reason.

    7. I have 2 boy dolls Abadon came with eyelashes in I trimmed them back so that they don't look feminine. Xander came with eyelashes separately in the bag with his certificate of authenticity. With Xanders face and face up I decided not to add them. For me it depends on the sculpt, face up and look that I am going for.

    8. Most of my dolls, male and female, do have eyelashes, though a few do not. It was a choice I made based on the look I wanted for them, not their gender.

    9. I think it'd depend on the doll for me and the character I'm shelling, but I don't have any boys right now. The one I have on layaway would probably be one I'd put lashes on.

    10. My Johnny came with long lashes. They're a little long for my taste, but they suit his personality so I left them as-is. They add a lot to his expression.

    11. I'm hoping to get lashes for both my boy and girl. I think they help the dolls have more depth and don't contribute to making the boys look more "feminine."

    12. I've been thinking about this as well as I choose my own male doll ;)
I totally think they should wear lashes! They look less natural without them haha! However if you're worries about the masculinity you could always opt for shorter lashes? I think it all depends on the face up though! It changes everything!

    13. But of course :aheartbea !
After all both female and male humans have eyelashes, do they not?

    14. Both of my boys came with eyelashes, and surprisingly enough both have long eyelashes. Alistair looks like he's been dipping into my mascara, in fact! I don't mind much; Johnny is supposed to be something of a bishounen type and his eyelashes add to that effect. Alistair's head has molded teeth and pointed elf ears, and his heavy eyelashes make him look even more otherworldly. I wish that Alistair's lashes were maybe a little lighter, but I can live with them.

    15. I like my boy without eyelashes though I've bought one pair for him. I never use it until now. I just don't have a feel yet about him having eyelash. Maybe it's because of the sculpt..

    16. My boy has very very short lashes but this is purely because they helped reduce the "stare" of his eyes. They fall out a lot though, I think they're missing again and I haven't be bothered to fix em heh. I'm a slacker. But they DO make him look quite feminine. He has a really androgynous face anyway. But I tend to do lashes on dolls on a "case by case" basis. Some characters need them to feel finished, some need long ones, some need short stubly ones, others have none at all. Depends on what works with the sculpt.

    17. I have an IOS chaos coming and I want him to wear lashes, but then I have a l'Armoire de DanDan Harlan (Gore Version) head and I don't want him to have eyelashes, because he'll be my phantom of the opera and only having eyelashes on one side of his head and not the other wouldn't look right. I don't know if you've ever taken a good look at a man, but they tend to have some of the thickest eyelashes out there. My husband has thicker eyelashes than I do and mine are already pretty full.

However some dolls just don't look good with eyelashes and painting them on just looks better so I think it's a doll by doll basis and it also depends on the character of the doll.

    18. Definitely! If I had a male doll, he'd certainly have lashes. Humans just have eyelashes.

    19. Most people have lashes, so I would definitely place lashes on my male dolls.... Plus they're fun to add as a final touch. :)

    20. I've never really thought much about this question before. Two of my boys have them and one doesn't, but that's only because they came that way. I've never tried to put lashes onto the one that does have them. In my opinion, he looks perfectly fine. I'm very well aware that humans have eyelashes and most dolls are meant to be humanoid in appearance. However, for me, my dolls-even if they are humans- still lean toward the fantasy side so lashes are more of an extra feature that I don't find one hundred percent necessary.
