Would/do your male dolls wear eyelashes?

Jan 7, 2011

    1. For my art, I add eyelashes to boys in varying degrees. It just depends on their look. I think longer, more splayed out, and obvious eyelashes look more youthful. The current boy sculpt I'm interested in buying has a younger looking face and I want to add longer eyelashes to his faceup if I ever get the chance. ;;
On the other hand, I think shorter or less obvious eyelashes look more mature. Like if I were to ever get a boy bjd with a mature face, I'd probably try positioning the eyelashes so that they weren't very visible straight on, but when you tilt the head, they'd be easier to see. While I'd keep the upper eyeliner, I'd make the lower lashes a little more spaced out and wispier with less shading.
But those are just my personal choices. I've seen and admired a lot of lovely boy faceups with full eyelashes and dark shading around the eyes. <3

    2. It depends on the sculpt. Those with smaller eyes tend to look weird with lashes so I leave them off, or just paint a few bottom lashes on. Those with wider eyes all get varying degrees of length. The same goes for my female dolls. Just like real people, some of my dolls have more noticeable lashes than others.

    3. i use shorter finer lashes on my boys. they wouldn't like right to me with no lashes, but i like the lashes to look natural instead of covered with mascara ;)

    4. I'm not a fan of how BJDs look without eyelashes regardless of gender, so yes my doll has eyelashes.

    5. One of my boys will definitely have eyelashes and probably two. They'll be based on Klaus and Dorian of From Eroica With Love, and those characters have very noticeable sweeping eyelashes. The others are more subtle.

    6. I find that eyelashes look really good on male bjds as well!
I don't know, I feel like the eyelashes make them look more human :3
But in real life I really don't like it when guys wear mascara, haha! Like eyeshadow and everything else is cool but mascara....just no! Haha!

    7. Yes, all my boys have eyelashes. It makes them look real and not like a toy or alien like.

    8. My boy doll arrived without lashes and he looked weird to me. I added them. Little boys have lashes too!

    9. Yes. I don't think it looks girly in anyway. It's just less obvious and I feel like the face up is not complete without it.

    10. Yes, my boy doll would have eyelashes because human beings (even boys ;) ) have eyelashes.

    11. I dont have male dolls but am looking to buy some in the future, mine may not even have eyelashes but if they do they will be smaller then my female doll eyelashes. One of my females doesnt have eyelashes either...just depends on their look i guess.

    12. I would! I think he'd look a bit funny without lashes, just maybe not as long

    13. Depends on the doll and on his character/looks.
I'm waiting this boy I'm planning not to make wear eyelashes.
From pictures, with a nice faceup, dollies can look great and complete even without lashes. If it ends up looking weird, I'll just add them, but short ones.

    14. I think eyelashes are definitely add to the realism factor (if you are into it it lol), especially for 3/4 and side profile photos. I like use individual lashes for my male dolls rather then thick strip ones.

    15. Regardless of gender, I think eyelashes definitely adds much more depth and realism to any dolls.
Only have boys but all of them do have eyelashes just shorter and less thick compared to what I would pick for a female doll if I had any ^^

    16. Since dolls are imitating people, they look odd without it IMHO. If someone wants more than one layer of eyelashes then i'm not sure.

    17. I really like long and elegant eyelashes on males, so yes! My boy would wear them (if I had the time to buy some :|) but I don't think the question here is that "males have eyelashes anyways", but more of personal taste.

    18. Yes, I add eyelashes to my boys! I might sometimes pick more subtle ones than for a girl (like imitating the difference of guy's natural eyelashes VS girls who have fakes ones and mascara) but they look incomplete without.
As a manga artist I draw stylized lashes on my guys sometimes, and ever since one of my artworks got the ridiculous comment "Your guys look like girls. Men don't have eyelashes, it's unrealistic" I made a statement of putting lovely eyelashes on every male just cause!
It's kinda ironic because I know some guys who have natural eyelashes so long and thick any girl would dream of!

    19. I personally prefer female bjds to have long full eyelashes because they come across as feminime and pretty. Though I find with a lot of male bjd sculpts that their facial features are already farely feminime or soft, and I find this especially with MSD boys. I know it's supposed to come across as younger, but I often find that if they have long lashes or any at all, they begin to look to much like a girl doll to me. I know that the faceup also determines the overall look. But I would say that I prefer male dolls with no or every short lashes, because it comes across as more masucline, or boyish to me.

    20. Well, it really depends on the size of the eye opening. Small eyes can get away with no lashes. Large eyes, I like lashes. They can be trimmed or use individual lashes to look more masculine.
