Would you ever buy an outfit for your bjd that costs more than the doll itself?

Oct 24, 2010

    1. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
IMO, I consider about the "value" of the outfit in my own view. What will it make me feel? Is it Limited? Do I like it alot and alot? Do I really want it? If I definitely want it. I will get it.

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself?
Because my sewing skill is too bad and I also dont like sewing; so I'll buy if that outfir is awesome. However, I dont like an outfit for a long time and I also don't want pplz think my doll only have 1 outfit, so I'd considet about it carefully.

If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?
      Around 150$

    2. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
It depends on the otufit, and what comes with it , quailty and i am a huge person of you get what you pay for
Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself?
are we talking 200 dollar doll or 1000 dollar doll
If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?
XD um i dont know i havne tfound that one price i cant do i guess under 300 for a full outfit limited or otherwise

    3. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
I don't think right or wrong is the proper term here. It's all a matter of opinion, budget, and comfort.

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
No. to me, it's just not worth it. I mean, it depends on the size, but for a tiny outfit that fits a yosd, to have it cost as much as the doll itself, I can't afford something like that without feeling regret about senselessly spending money. It's about usefulness too, I mean, it's doll clothes!

If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?
It depends on size and cost. I can understand the bigger SD and 70cm male doll clothes being sold for over $100. There's alot more material and complications on their outfits. However, that same price, or even more, such as $200 for a very elegant [and a bit fancy] dress for a yo-sd, I will not do. I will pay $100 at most I suppose on fancy doll clothes, but feel bad doing so. This is the reason I want to begin learning to sew so I can make my own clothes without paying an arm and a leg.

    4. I've never spent more on an outfit than my doll costs, but I have seen some that if I had the money I would have snatched them up because they were gorgeous pieces

    5. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
If that floats your boat and you have the money, I suppose you could.

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
I am constantly tempted to get Freedomteller clothes, but I haven't taken the plunge yet. While it is not as expensive as the doll it is for, the set I want is more expensive than 4 of my dolls due to needing custom-tailoring since SSDF is not one of their default sizes and throwing in those delicious oxfords, so I usually keep delaying its purchase because I've bought some dolls instead and I feel worse for my dolls who are floating heads than over Niccolo not having a perfectly tailored three-piece suit (the guy needs to settle for a passably tailored two-piece suit for now...).

If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?
The most money I have spent on doll clothes is a $40 corset and a $60 suit-cape-hat set. It may change in the future, but that is about where I stand for clothes for 1/4 and 1/3 dolls. I'm usually a bit loathe to spend really big bucks for the clothes for my 1/6 dolls and have been sewing everything my 1/6 dolls wear.

    6. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?

There is no "right" or "wrong" here.

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?

Highly doubt it. The outfit would have to take my breath away for me to even consider it. OOAK or limited doesn't matter to me. I buy what I know looks nice and that I will actually use on my dolls. Even if I think it is gorgeous, if I wouldn't dress a doll in it, then the creator won't be getting my money.

Nevermind that... if it was money I could buy a doll with, I would likely buy another doll! I have a pretty big wishlist right now, and I would rather buy a doll with that kind of money than just some outfit.

But that doesn't mean other people can't buy such an outfit, and if they do, good for them. Though... I may find it a bit....odd.

    7. Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
Not a chance. It's hard enough to come up with the money for the BJD, forget about paying that much for an outfit when I could spend it on another doll. Also, I can get on Etsy and purchase beautiful clothing for a fraction of the price, so I see no reason to pay more.

If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?
I base everything on an average price range. I look around and get a feel for what the average price for something is and all of my buying habits are based off of my findings. If outfits for PukiFee average out at about $15, I'll be hesitant to pay more than that for any outfit and will only pay more if it's something I really want. Even then, I will have to be convinced that the price tag on the outfit itself is justified. $1,000 for an outfit will never be justified to me, so I would never pay it.

    8. I'm not sure where I draw the line! To me, an outfit is a part of the customization and over-all aesthetic of the doll, so I would be willing to spend quite a pretty penny on one if it "completed" the doll, so to speak.

I personally have spent as little as $160 on a doll, (for my PukiPuki Rose), and over $200 on an outfit (my BtSSB MSD dress for my DOC Petsha). I have drooled over outfits that are more, and seriously have considered them. I would hesitate to spend that much, but after seeing how absolutely lovely the BtSSB Volks dress is on my Petsha, I simply can't deny that it can be worth it in the end.

To each their own! As long as the doll satisfies your aesthetics in some way, whether that be by sculpt or dress, I think that is all that matters.

    9. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
It's the persons' money, I guess they can do what they want. ;)

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
No, not really. I wanted the doll more then the clothes. :T I figure I can do more with a doll, then I can clothes.

If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?

Despite saying "no", I'm not really drawing a line. I will still be spending just as much regardless on my doll for clothes. It just wouldn't be in one go, but accumulated over time.

    10. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
If its 'right' or 'wrong' depends on the person. If you want to, and can afford it than do it.
Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
I personally I have bought some boy shorts recently for my bjd and then realized it cost as much as buying my own pants:o, but I had specifically saved for them because the lower priced shorts that were for sale didn't look like they were good quality:|. But honestly anything over $50 dollars is my limit. Unless its an complete outfit them I limit myself to $100 dollars, but I haven't gotten that far in my spending yet.

    11. No, because I would buy another doll from that money
Hope I didn't find cloths that worth more than my dolls and want to buy it for him :(

    12. I don't have any dolls under $200, but I spent $200 on an outfit before because it was pretty much my dream doll outfit and I had been wanting it for years. If I had to and could have afforded to, I'd have spent maybe upto $400 on it. Generally I don't spend over $100 on an outfit though. I think it's okay to spend more on an outfit than a doll if it means that much to you. I don't really see the point in having a nice doll if it has nothing nice to wear.

    13. I have found I'm definitely willing to spend more on doll clothes/shoes than I do for these items for myself- and since I have become more aware of bjd's I have cared a lot less about clothes for myself or improving my home! :)

    14. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
Irrelevant. who cares if someone thinks its right or wrong

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
Could never make myself do it. But then most of my dolls are in the $500 range. (I like SD's)

If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?
If the answer to the question "Would I make it for that price?" is "No." I'd spend up to about $70. Have done so on nice suits for a couple of my male dolls.
I sew pretty well, but like putting things on the dolls that I do not need to make, and don't mind second hand for them or me.

    15. I don't think I could ever purchase an outfit that cost more than a doll (unless it was a pretty cheap doll); my "line" would probably be near $200 and if I really thought an outfit was worth more I could possibly pass that $200 but I really don't think so. :3

    16. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
It's right if you want to, and have the money for it without impoverishing yourself or your family... (haha)

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
Well my cheapest bjd was $100, but I would not be willing to spend anything even close to that for a bjd outfit. I think $50 would be my max, and it would have to be something quite spectacular, I can't even imagine it, really!!

If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?
      I guess I answered this one above. I am just a cheapskate with this hobby. I've found that if I spend too much on something, I worry about it and don't enjoy it. ^^;;

    17. Every time I've browsed and come across this topic, I've thought "hell no" and moved on. However, I just realized that...I have actually done this just recently:sigh

I purchased a Sugarble Adela, whom has the option of a limited outfit. Since she currently has a 10% discount as part of an event, she costs $193.50. The outfit, which will only be available during the event, costs $210...so guilty as charged. I was pressured, I tell you!

Normally I wouldn't spend that much on an outfit, especially a tiny-sized one. In this case I had extra cash from my birthday and the holidays so I wanted to splurge a little. I'm sure it's all been said but I'll go ahead and answer the questions:

Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
It's not an issue of "right or wrong". If the person has the money to spend, they are entitled to spend it on whatever they want. I don't think I need to go into too much more, this is clearly the consensus.

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
Initially, no, but that's my personal preference. I'm pretty careful about budgeting for dolls and other things I enjoy buying. This transaction was an exception and there may be more in the future.

    18. Wow :O I don't think I would ever be willing to spend more than say.. $250 maybe? And even then it's a little over half the price of my doll but as long as what I'm getting isn't garbage then I think it's worth it :D

    19. Is it 'right' to spend as much on an outfit as on a BJD?
Of course it is,it just comes down to the simple fact of whether or not you actually want to smack that much money down on one outfit.

Would you be (or have you been) willing to spend as much on an outfit for your BJD as for the BJD itself? Why or why not?
Hell to the no. xD That's all I gotta say. I'd rather take that $200-$400 to Alice's Collections or some other sight and buy a whole medley of clothes for these hoodlums. It just seems like a better purchase.

If your answer is no, where do you draw the line?
I think I'd have to go with $80,simply because as of yet I haven't actually seen any outfits over that amount that I'd actually use all of the pieces. Still though,I'd rather use that amount for a bunch of cheaper items.

    20. i've never found an outfit that cost more than my dolls but if it was the case and if it feets what i'm looking for maybe I would buy it, but I would serch for another options before that.
